Abstract: A system for assembling two components of a prosthesis in a plurality of positions which are adjustable in orthogonal translation, and selectively in rotation and angularly. In the system, a projecting part integral with one of these components is engaged in a recess, forming a hollow part of the other component of the prosthesis, or of an intermediate connection element, while screws arranged transversely with respect to the lateral walls of the cell come into abutment, as in the prior art, against the lateral flanks of the projecting part, but without the base of the hollow part bearing directly against the facing surface of the projecting part.

  • Patent number: 5517928
Abstract: A system of precision, precut joints developed for tubular-framed, modular furniture enabling a user to assemble furniture pieces quickly and easily with the use of ordinary hand tools. In the primary joint of this system, a truncated corner of a horizontal panel or shelf is fastened to a vertically-disposed, grooved section of tubing. Receiving the corner is a groove which is cut in the tubing section transversely to the longitudinal centerline thereof and which has a height slightly greater than the thickness of the shelf or panel. Opposite the groove and midway between opposing distal ends of the groove, the section has a first hole formed therein for receiving a screw threadedly engageable with a second hole formed in the truncated corner. As the screw is tightened, it pulls the truncated corner into the groove, forming a strong joint.

  • Patent number: 4986691
Abstract: A method of releasably connecting together strips of material comprising arranging the strips with surfaces facing each other and forming upwardly deformed areas of the strips above their planes and downwardly deformed areas of the strips below their planes, the deformed areas having intervening tie portions arranged at angles to the planes of the sheets, the tie portions being partially cut out to form tongues and interlining shoulders and remaining connected to the strips between deformed areas whereby upon relative longitudinal movement of the sheets, the tongues are displaced to seal against the shoulders and the inclined tie portions are adjacent to each other.

  • Patent number: 4939945
Abstract: An adjustment gear mechanism utilizing a plastic adjustment gear and integrally formed structures which securely retain a drive member. The plastic gear is formed to provide both a gear tooth arrangement which cooperatively meshes with a drive gear and an integrally formed adjustment member bore which provides prevailing torque for an adjustment member. The gear tooth arrangement on the plastic gear is formed to cooperatively mesh with a metal drive gear and withstand the tooth load and deflection applied by the metal drive gear. The drive member is non-adhesively retained by the integrally formed structures which maintain operative engagement between the drive member and the drive gear which it rotates. The structure and materials of the mechanism also provide adjustment-retaining purchase such that when a desired adjustment is achieved using the adjustment mechanism the adjustment resists disturbance by accidental, vibrational or other forces exerted upon either the drive member or the adjustment member.

  • Patent number: 4887827
Abstract: A bicycle safety turning device for installation upon a bicycle frame lower cross bar adapted to be engaged by the bicycle front wheel fork shoulder to limit the front fork from turning so far to the left or right as to be at a right angle to the forward movement of the bicycle and cause the bicycle to jackknife while riding. More specifically, the bicycle safety turning device consists of a pair of clamp members adapted to surround the bicycle frame lower cross bar, capped with clamp plates, and a pair of bolts bringing the two clamp plates and clamp members together, the bolts also holding a striker plate against which the front fork shoulder comes in contact after the front fork has turned through an arc of 35 to 45 degrees as desired. Encountering the striker plate, the fork is prevented from further turning.
