Articulate Joint Comprises Pivoted Clevis Or Channel Bar Patents (Class 403/79)
  • Patent number: 6357955
Abstract: A self retaining elongated pin for use in a polymer clevis is disclosed. The pin has a generally cylindrical shaft diameter with an enlarged head at one end. Knurling is provided on either the shaft or head to resist axial rotation of the pin. Axial translation of the pin is restrained by the head in the direction toward the head and by fetters in the direction away from the head. The fetters engage the clevis in an interference fit. The fetters are angulated such that the fetter tip is directed toward the head to preferentially favor insertion and resist removal.

  • Patent number: 6350074
Abstract: A spherical clevis assembly constructed as a generally U-shaped member having two generally parallel opposing arms and a base. Two opposing inwardly disposed mounting members each having a spherical portion are situated in a respective aperture of the respective arm of the U-shaped member. Each such aperture has a sidewall-defined entry of a diameter less than an adjacent curvature of the spherical portion of the mounting member to thereby permit the spherical portion to ride upon the sidewall-defined entry and be movable in axes in accord with the adjacent curvature of the spherical portion. A pin member extends between the mounting members to receive connected components whose mounting aperture surrounds the pin member as conventionally accomplished. Since each end of the pin member is situated within a respective mounting member, the arc movement and subsequent multiplanar movements translate to the pin member.

  • Patent number: 6227750
Abstract: An adjustable tilting bracket for concrete finishing tools include a base plate, with an elongated slot in the bottom thereof, the slot being arranged to straddle a reinforcing rib on the tool. A yoke is pivotally mounted on the base plate and includes a cylindrical passageway in which a handle receiving member is located. A guide slot is formed in an upper arcuate portion of the yoke and cooperates with a stop member protruding from the handle receiving member to allow the handle receiving member to traverse an angle of about 180°, say from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock, within the yoke. An actuating rod is pivotally mounted between the base plate and a caming ring secured to the forward end of the handle receiving member so that the base plate and a leveling/finishing tool secured thereto will pivot about an axis parallel to the tool's receiving slot.

  • Patent number: 6109814
Abstract: An implement-positioning apparatus used on an implement-towing vehicle such as a tractor includes a draft arm, a lift link, and a mechanism coupling the arm and the link together. The mechanism selectively permits floating arm movement (and therefore floating implement movement) relative to the link. In the improvement, the mechanism includes a clevis-like attachment member fixed on the link and having two arms, each with a slot extending therealong. A pivot-mounted selection member is coupled to the attachment member by a pin through the slots and moves between a first position engaging the attachment member and a second position away from the attachment member. When the selection member is in the second position, the pin is free to move along the slots and thereby permit the draft arm and the implement coupled thereto to "float" and, within limits set by the length of the slots, seek its own elevation under the urging of external forces.

  • Patent number: 6022164
Abstract: A multi-position fixture assembly comprising a captive body having a threaded end unitary with an enlarged end. The threaded end is adapted to threadably attach to an object to be lifted. The enlarged end of the captive body includes a swivel cavity and external hex head. The swivel cavity has a generally flat bottom and a generally cylindrical side wall. The hex head is easily engaged by a conventional wrench to torque the fixture to a workpiece. The cylindrical side wall of the swivel cavity includes an internally threaded portion which is opposed from the bottom. A hoist head with a flanged end and an opposed free end is assembled into the swivel cavity of the enlarged end of the captive body by means of an externally threaded retainer ring. The retainer does not bear on the flanged end so the flanged end is retained for free rotation inside the swivel cavity. Thusly retained, it is free to swivel through a 360 degree arc. A lifting loop is mounted to the free end of the hoist head.

  • Patent number: 5975786
Abstract: A hoist swivel shackle assembly used with others to hoist heavy objects such as dies and molds. The shackle includes a "U" shaped shackle member pivotal on a swivel body which is rotatable about an orthogonal axis on a base. Long term distortion of the shackle member is minimized by flanges on the ends of the legs of the shackle that slidably engage side bosses on the swivel body to absorb outward loading on the shackle. The shackle is pivoted to the swivel body member by a pair of pins with annular recesses, fixed in a pair diametrally opposite pin receiving bores in the swivel body member. These pins are held in the swivel body member by pressing a softened material into threaded bosses in the swivel body forcing it around the pins and into their recesses. Overloading the swivel shackle assemblies is minimized by an indicator that tells the operator when he has exceeded the safety angle of the shackle member.

  • Patent number: 5340087
Abstract: A balustrade is proposed wherein a hinge device (66) connects each baluster (56) to the rail (55) in such manner as to permit limited pivotal and translational movement therebetween. The hinge device (66) comprises a flat spring of generally J-shape the elongate body (67) of the spring being secured to the rail and the curved end (68) of the spring being secured to the baluster. An inflexible plate (70) overlies the body (67) to restrain the same against movement. Opening of the curved end (68) permits relative pivotal and translational motion between the baluster (56) and rail (55). The arrangement offers advantages in collapse of the balustrade for transportation purposes and also permits of adjustment of the angle between the rail and balusters to accommodate facture and other tolerances.
