  • Patent number: 5899117
Abstract: A bar end for the end of the type of bicycle handlebar which is generally straight and has ends projecting at right angles to the bicycle is disclosed. The preferred embodiment of the bar end comprises a central clamp to which is affixed a generally forward sweeping tube and a generally rearward sweeping tube. The rearward sweeping tube has a downward portion extending downward and rearward from the clamp and a horizontal portion extending rearward, approximately horizontally, from the downward portion. The forward sweeping tube has an upper portion extending upwards and forwards at an angle from the clamp, and an inwards portion extending forwards and inwards at an angle from the upper portion. Variations of this embodiment are provided by varying the angular relationships, lengths and shapes of the segments and by providing a mechanism for vertical, angular adjustment of the forward sweeping tube. In another alternative, the bar end is permanently affixed to the termini thus creating a complete handlebar.

  • Patent number: 5816614
Abstract: A tiller assembly for steering a personal mobility vehicle. A knuckle joint for the tiller includes a base secured on the front wheel steering spindle and a knuckle element connected for limited pivotal movement on the base. A bolt connects the knuckle element to the base and also connects the tiller to the knuckle joint. A spring loaded pin on the tiller enters spaced apart openings in the knuckle element to lock the tiller to the knuckle element in any one of various positions, including an operating position and a collapsed position. Adjustment screws on the base are contacted by stop surfaces on the knuckle element to limit in both directions the pivoting of the knuckle element. This allows the tiller to float to a limited extent and also to act rigidly when the vehicle user needs to pull himself up by using the tiller. Spacer sleeves on the pivot bolt allow adjustment of the friction between the knuckle element and base without affecting the tiller.

Abstract: In a grip bar for a collapsible baby carriage, first and second portions 4 and 5 are coupled with each other by a rigid link member 28 within a joint 6, so that the first and second portions 4 and 5 symmetrically operate with respect to the joint 6. Thus, angles formed by the respective first and second portions 4 and 5 relative to the joint 6 can be kept identical to each other, whereby locking members 23 and 24 for both of the first and second portions 4 and 5 can be reliably and concurrently engaged in open state locking concave portions 19 and 20 or closed state locking concave portions 21 and 22. In this manner, it is possible to reliably and easily attain a locking state of both of the first and second portions 4 and 5 in either a linear open state or a folded state.

  • Patent number: 5802755
Abstract: A device that locks a threaded collar around a cylindrical gun barrel has a lunger extending in a radial direction through the collar. The plunger rides upon a series of ratchet teeth, disposed around the circumference of the gun barrel. The ratchet teeth include ramps and steps. As the collar is threaded onto the gun barrel, the plunger rides up the ramp of each ratchet tooth and drops into the step of the next ratchet tooth around the gun barrel. When in place, the plunger is pushed backwards against the wall of the ratchet tooth and arrests rotation of the collar in the unthreading direction. To remove the collar, the plunger is lifted clear of the ratchet tooth. With the plunger held clear of the step of the ratchet tooth, the threaded collar can be unthreaded.

  • Patent number: 5725281
Abstract: An adjusting mechanism is adapted for use with a footrest mounted in front of a seat, and a fulcrum pin to facilitate pivotable fixing of the footrest. A fastening member adapted to be included in the footrest has a pair of elongated openings for the pin. A spring biased bushing is provided at a first end of each opening and is adapted for relative movement in the longitudinal direction of the openings toward a second end of each opening. First and second guiding and locking elements are included, respectively, in the fastening member and in a fastening element through which the pin extends. Pivoting the footrest is effected by shifting it in the longitudinal direction of the openings against the spring bias toward the fulcrum pin to release the guiding and locking elements. When the footrest has been pivoted to a desired locking position, the spring bias returns it to a position in which the bushings are at the first opening ends and the guiding and locking elements are engaged.

The first member (12) includes a pair of spaced apart support flanges (24,26) each having a through aperture (28) therein defining a flange female spline (29). The second member (14) has an end (42) positioned between the pair of support flanges (24,26) and also includes a through aperture (46 ) defining a pair of second member female splines (47). A pair of control members (84,86) are each slidably moveable along the common axis (32) and extend through the respective flanges (24,26). Each control member (84,86) has a male splined portion (66) which normally engages both the respective flange female spline and the second member female spline to lock the rotatable position of the first and second members.

Abstract: An adjustable tool holder for carrying a tool, such as a paint brush, on a handle, such as an extension handle. The invention broadly includes a yoke assembly for mounting the holder on the handle and a carrier assembly for carrying the tool. The yoke assembly has a generally U-shaped configuration, with yoke arms extending upward from a handle mount. The carrier assembly includes a link assembly for mounting the carrier assembly on the yoke for angular movement in discrete preselected steps about an axis passing through the yoke, operable by imposing a moment force on the link assembly. Link arms extend between and in sliding contact with the inner surfaces of the yoke arms, with axle plugs joining adjacent yoke and link arms for rotational movement. A series of detent recesses and projections, respectively formed in adjacent yoke and link arms, permits rotational movement in a series of discrete steps of selected angular distance, without requiring the loosening of any screws or wing nuts.
