  • Patent number: 6161982
Abstract: A sealed coupler includes a splined pin that moves axially inside orifices formed in the two or more members, and a rotating actuator. The actuator can be threaded to engage a threaded end of the pin, or it can include one or more cams to engage one or more cam followers coupled to the pin to move the pin inside the orifices. The pin moves axially between a locking position, where the members are rotationally locked, and an unlocking position, where the members are free to rotate relative to each other, in response to rotation of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 6128800
Abstract: A broom is provided with a rotatable brush head connected to a handle. The brush head and handle each have a longitudinally extending axis located in a common geometric plane. The brush head has a base with a downwardly extending element which, by tongue and groove configuration, engages a separable attachment member which is adapted to receive the handle. A manually operable member with a knob, controls the movement of the attachment element and hence the handle in relation to the brush head, allowing the brush head to rotate to a plurality of angles of alignment with the handle within the common plane. The brush head element, attachment member, and control member are secured together by means of a spring bias system, consisting of an elongated bolt or similar means and a coiled spring. This system secures the attachment member and control member to the brush head in a tightly biased manner, to maintain the brush head in position on the handle.

Abstract: An adjustable arm rest assembly for use on a chair including a support member, an arm rest member, a locking element and an adjustment member. The support member is attached to the chair and extends substantially upward therefrom. The arm rest member extends substantially coaxially with the support member. The locking element is attached to one of the support member and the arm rest member. A projecting portion extends from an end portion of the locking element and includes a first mating element. The adjustment member is attached to the other of the support member and the arm rest member. The adjustment member and the locking element are movable with respect to one another. A plurality of vertically spaced flanges form a plurality of recesses within the adjustment member. Each recess is sized to receive the projecting portion of the locking element and has a second mating element corresponding to the first mating element.

  • Patent number: 5577858
Abstract: An apparatus such as a digging bucket has a clevis device pivotably connected thereto by a pin held in place by a pin-retaining structure. The clevis includes a plurality of arcuate, lip-like, outwardly-radially-projecting first retention members and the structure includes a cap portion having a plurality of arcuate, lip-like, inwardly-radially-projecting second retention members. Each second retention member engages and "locks" to a separate first retention member. The cap portion, which interferes with free axial travel of the pin, is well secured so that the pin is retained in engagement with the clevis without welding the pin. Avoiding pin welding permits using a substantially-harder pin, resulting in significantly better wear characteristics. A new method for retaining a pin is also disclosed.

Abstract: The hot stick adaptor has two members that are adjustably movable relative to each other. A first one of the members has two separate first ratchet areas. A second one of the members has three separate second ratchet ares. A fastener and spring connect the two members to each other with one of the first ratchet areas and one of the second ratchet areas in interlocking engagement. The two members can be moved away from each other in a first direction, compressing the spring, to disengage the interlocking engagement and thereby allow the two members to be moved in a second direction.

Abstract: A hotstick component has a fastening subassembly for securing the component to another component or a hotstick and allowing reorientation of the component with respect to the hotstick while it is still attached. The component has a fastening end with a through hole. A fastening subassembly includes a screw member and a spring member. The screw member is received through the through hole and secures the other component to the hot stick component. The spring member is received along the screw member and maintains the component in an engaged position. The component is reoriented by moving it against the spring member into a disengaged position, readjusting the component's position, then allowing the spring member to push the component into an engaged position.

No. 5,381,570 for foldable tubular playpen frames having a step in the tooth of a recessed sprocket portion in which a connecting gear rests. In order to unlock the joint one must move the gear axially inwardly with a pushbutton as well as relieve the stresses on the joint by lifting up the tubular bars connected to the joint so that the gear may slip off the step. In this way an additional factor of safety is built-in in order to unlock the joint, and accidental release is reduced.

Second, the couplings permit the movable member to pivot to a position directly above and overlaying with the fixed retractor member, that is, a position in which the movable retractor member is in a plane directly above and generally parallel to the plane of the fixed retractor member.
