Abstract: A system for dispensing a fast curing epoxy traffic marking composition to a transportation corridor includes a plurality of bins positioned on a transportation corridor marking dispensing apparatus. A first bin contains an epoxy coating which is applied by the dispensing apparatus on a transportation corridor. A second bin contains at least one curing agent which is coated on a carrier such as glass beads or porous silica. These carriers are dropped onto the epoxy coating by the dispensing apparatus and promote rapid curing of the top layer of the epoxy coating while the bottom layer is given additional time to adhere to the roadway surface. This enables the application contractor to open a marked roadway in a quicker manner with less motorist disruption. An optional third bin contains retroreflective beads which are applied to the epoxy coating by the dispenser apparatus to improve visibility of the line marking.

  • Patent number: 8308394
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems and methods implemented in a pothole patching system for creating a vacuum that pulls heavy particulate, such as gravel, out of a hopper. For example, according to an embodiment, a vacuum body having a vacuum chamber formed therein is positioned proximate to an opening of the hopper. A moveable slide gate is provided between the vacuum chamber and the opening of the hopper. The slide gate moves between open and closed positions for permitting and blocking communication between the vacuum chamber and the hopper. A reduction nozzle is provided between an air source and the vacuum chamber. Forced air flows from the air source, through the reduction nozzle, and into the vacuum chamber. The reduction nozzle reduces the pressure of the forced air entering the vacuum chamber, and thereby creates a vacuum in the vacuum chamber. When the slide gate is in the open position, this vacuum pulls particulate from the hopper.

Abstract: A device for simultaneously spreading cut fibers and binders on a roadway width, includes, in the longitudinal direction, a first binder spreading set, a second cut fiber spreading set and a third binder spreading set, the second set including cutting tools, which are driven by a torque transmission member. The device is modular, the modules being transversally arranged side by side and each allowing to spread on a longitudinal lane of the roadway binders and cut fibers. Each module has a first nozzle, a tool for pulling and cutting continuous fibers and throwing cut fibers to the roadway, a second nozzle, the nozzles being connected to a common binder dispensing member. Each tool is removably mounted in its module between a working position where it is in the module and driven by the driving shaft and a releasing position where it is available to an operator and at rest.

Abstract: A method of repairing a road surface includes providing a hopper mounted on a spreading vehicle and means to spread material carried in the hopper over depressed areas of the road surface to fill them with the material. At ambient temperature, a batch of patching slurry is mixed comprising aggregate, asphalt emulsion, water, Portland cement, and a retarding agent operative to increase a break time of the patching slurry, and the batch is deposited into the hopper.
