  • Patent number: 11682273
Abstract: An attachment system for attachment to a signaling device includes an attachment member. The attachment member is formed of a ring-shape made of an elastic material and includes an annular base and at least one fin. The annular base includes an external peripheral edge and a central orifice defining an internal peripheral edge. The annular base also includes an annular lower face and an annular upper face. The fin projects from the external peripheral edge of the annular base. The attachment member is movable between a rest configuration in which the annular base is planar and extends in a main plane to allow insertion and positioning on the signaling device at a selected position, and a deformed configuration in which the annular base is non-planar in a deformed state in order to be able to match a peripheral area of the signaling device.

  • Patent number: 11645907
Abstract: A system and method for providing increased traffic carrying capacity of a road, such as a highway, by modifying an existing roadway from, for example, four lanes to five lanes, to create an additional travel lane. The system and method dynamically changes the width of travel lanes using, for example, embedded pavement lights, or other lighting arrangements, in lieu of traditional painted lane lines. As traffic volumes increase and speeds decrease along the road, an intelligent transport system (ITS) sends a congestion signal to the overhead lane controls and dynamic message signs (DMS) along the entire road segment of interest. The posted speed limits are changed, and the lane markings are controlled to dynamically increase the number of lanes in the road segment to five, for example, of narrower widths until traffic volumes reduce and the number of lanes can be returned to four, for example, with normal speed limits.

Abstract: One estimate indicates that rubbernecking and congestion consumes about 4% of this country's fuel. Two approaches are presented to help solve this problem. The first uses shields to block the view of a car accident. Rubbernecking is reduced since the visibility of the car accident is reduced. A second approach uses mobile flat units that can be remotely controlled to enter a roadway that is carrying active traffic. The traffic runs over these units that are being moved until the master processor indicates that the mobile flat units are in position. A post is extended from the flat unit that issues commands to the motorists so the master processor can begin to control and reduce congestion. Both approaches can be used to help decrease fuel waste in the US.

  • Patent number: 8678701
Abstract: The system for remote control of retractable, ground-based vehicle barriers increases control of the emergency lane of the road by mounting ground signboards in the emergency lane to prevent any vehicle to pass through this lane and so the police vehicle or the ambulance can easily and quickly approach the site of accident through the emergency lane. The signboards include a U-shaped frame permanently mounted in the emergency lane and a panel pivotally attached to the frame. Servo motors are provided to rotate the panels between a vertical position providing a barrier to traffic and a horizontal position permitting an emergency response vehicle to travel through the emergency lane. The emergency response vehicle is provided with a remote control unit having a short-range transmitter that transmits a trigger signal that is received by a unit at the barrier sign to activate a motor controller to lower the sign.

Abstract: Detectable warning areas (DWAs) and methods of forming the same are provided. A mat template having one or more holes can be placed over a substrate, and a dome-forming material can be filled in the mat template by pouring the dome-forming material over the mat template and working the dome-forming material into the one or more holes of the mat template. The mat template can remain in place until the dome-forming material is completely cured, and then the mat template can be removed. DWAs formed according to this method display improved properties, including increased bond strength.

  • Patent number: 8607488
Abstract: An advertising system for a bollard includes a bollard shield that can be installed over a conventional bollard. The bollard shield includes a shield inner diameter greater than the bollard outer diameter, forming a shield gap between the bollard and the bollard shield. One or more compressible foam pads are positioned in the shield gap between the bollard and the bollard shield. A resilient bollard sheath can be rolled onto the bollard shield. The bollard sheath includes advertising or graphical materials disposed thereon. The bollard sheath is generally replaceable without replacing the entire bollard shield. A removable sheath panel may be detachably secured on the bollard sheath to provide additional advertising or graphical material. The sheath panel may be interchangeably and replaced with additional sheath panels having different advertising information.

  • Patent number: 8584401
Abstract: A post (200) for use with an automatically-movable barrier (1203) and a motive actuator (1204) is configured to interact with the barrier to thereby facilitate movement of the barrier with respect to the post. This post can have at least one cavity (201, 801) formed axially therein and a mains-power-bearing pathway (202) disposed within this at least one cavity to convey mains electrical power to movable barrier control circuitry (1202) as well as the motive actuator. Such a post can further comprise one or more integral pivot points (1001) that are configured to pivotally engage the automatically-movable barrier such that the automatically-movable barrier can selectively pivot about the integral pivot point. By another approach, such a post can further comprise one or more rollers (1101) that are configured to engage the automatically-movable barrier such that the latter can selectively move in a lateral direction through engagement with the roller(s).

  • Patent number: 8562244
Abstract: A device designed to be embedded in the pavement of a road for halting and/or preventing the motor vehicle traffic in an opposite direction. The device is formed by a drained box to be embedded in the pavement of a roadway and by a bank of mechanisms, that it is mounted inside the box. Inside the bank of mechanisms are defined cells formed by several vertical walls, and end walls, all walls being arranged parallel to each other and joined together by screwed rods extending through the end walls. The walls extend in the same direction as the road axis, the vertical walls and the end walls serving as support for several common horizontal shafts, and their tops serving as the support pavement for the vehicle tires. Each cell includes a driving mechanism which is activated at least by one tire of a vehicle transposing or attempting to transpose it in order to present an active obstacle to the displacement of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8485753
Abstract: Various self-cleaning delineator embodiments incorporate a delineator design that includes a shell portion, a core disposed inside the shell portion, and a reflective sheet coupled to an outer surface of the core. A wind turbine mounted on or in the delineator energizes a mechanical energy storage device, such as a spring, in response to wind or other air movement. A drive mechanism couples to the storage device and is adapted to use energy from the storage device to provide relative rotational motion between the shell portion and the core. A cleaning material disposed on an inner surface of the shell contacts the reflective sheet such that the relative rotational motion between the shell portion and the first core causes the cleaning material to slide across the reflective sheet to remove debris therefrom. The drive mechanism may include an escapement mechanism to limit the rotational motion to a maximum speed.
