Casting In Situ Hardenable Fluent Material Patents (Class 405/233)
  • Patent number: 7338232
Abstract: A screw pile is equipped with internal grout pipes extending downwardly through the bore of the tubular pile shaft. The grout pipes connect with side-opening ports in the shaft side wall, to form conduits through which fluid grout may be injected into the surrounding ground. The grout is injected at high pressure as the pile is rotatively driven into a sub-surface target formation in which the pile is to be landed. In this way, the grout is distributed along a vertical interval of formation. It has been shown that this technique is characterized by increased load capacities of the implanted pile, relative to piles implanted without grouting or with grouting but only at landed depth.

Abstract: Apparatus to install small diameter columns of granular material in soil which includes a hollow shaft element advanced into soil, a storage hopper containing granular material at or near the base of the apparatus with an elongated system to move granular material to and through the hollow shaft element to fill the cavity formed in soil as the hollow shaft element is withdrawn to form each column. Granular material may be moved from the storage hopper to the hollow shaft element by conveyor, pumping, and by fluid under pressure. A feed tank may be positioned to initially retain granular material moved from the storage hopper and subsequently pass the granular material into and through the hollow shaft element to fill the cavity formed as the hollow shaft element is withdrawn from the soil.

Abstract: A system is provided for creating at least one conduit in a borehole formed in an earth formation. The system comprises a device which includes movement means for moving the device in longitudinal direction through the borehole, and injection means for injecting a hardenable substance into the borehole so as to form, for each said conduit, a layer of hardened substance in the borehole behind the device, said layer defining the conduit. The system further comprises control means for controlling the rate of injection of said substance by the injection means so as to correspond with the rate of movement of the device through the borehole by the movement means.

  • Patent number: 6539685
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting and stabilizing sunken or settled foundations, slabs, footings, etc. includes a lifting plate having a pipe section solidly secured thereto, for passing concentrically over the anchor pier used in such operations. The concentric lifting plate pipe precludes cocking or tilting of the plate relative to the anchor pier and foundation structure, thereby greatly improving the security of the lifting operation. As a result of the increased lifting plate stability provided by the present invention, only a single clamp is needed for securing the lifting assembly to the foundation. The clamp is adjustably positionable as required, to secure to a solid area of the foundation structure. The present system secures the plate to the pier using mechanical fasteners, thus precluding requirement for costly welding and other metal forming equipment. A method of raising or stabilizing a foundation or similar structure using the present apparatus, is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present application relates to a method of installing a pre-cast pile in the ground which involves applying an enlarged head forming tool to the ground until a volume of soil has been displaced or removed so as to form a void at the surface of the ground. The pre-cast pile is then driven into the ground to a predetermined depth below the void and the void is then filled with concrete or grout to form a cast-in-situ pile head. The diameter of the pile head is greater than the diameter of the pile shaft.

Abstract: A method of forming an in-situ void system including the steps of determining an expansion potential of soil adjacent to a structure and forming an array of voids in an area adjacent to the structure so as to accommodate the expansion potential of the soil. The array of voids is formed by drilling an array of holes beneath the structure or around a perimeter of the structure. The holes are drilled to a depth of the expansion potential. A liquid can be introduced into the voids so as to swell the soil. The top of the array of voids is covered prior to laying the foundation over the array of voids.
