Breaking Canister Or Packet Patents (Class 405/259.6)
  • Patent number: 7374370
Abstract: A rock bolt anchor includes a top portion permanently fixed to a bottom portion. The top portion carries a package of resin. A spring-loaded mechanism pressurizes the package and forces the resin out when the package is lanced. The bottom portion main body carries a pair of opposed outer shells in a dovetail joint on opposed tapers. The annulus adjacent to the rock bolt anchor is sealed by top and bottom bulkheads. The bottom portion is threaded onto a rock bolt. A hollow and ported lance is threaded onto the exposed end of the rock bolt. The combination is inserted into a drilled hole and the rock bolt rotated. The lance rises and pierces the package releasing into the sealed annulus. Continued rotation of the rock bolt, forces the main body down and the outer shells up the tapers compressing them against the wall of the drilled hole.

  • Patent number: 7296950
Abstract: A resin bonded mine roof bolt having an elongated rod with a first end and a second end. A segmented resin compression layer covers a portion of the rod below the first end. When installed in a mine roof bore hole with curable resin, the resin compression layer mixes the resin and partially fills the bore hole to minimize the amount of resin needed to anchor the bolt. Individual segments of the layer are tapered to create a wedging force on resin with the bore hole.

Abstract: A mixing head attachment is provided for use in mixing grouts and/or resins (hereinafter for brevity collectively referred to as resin) used in mine roof support systems in the securement of an anchor bolt in a bore hole. A threaded fastener is provided to tension the anchor bolt, and a resin composition is used to secure at least part of the anchor rod in the bore hole. The mixing head attachment is provided with a rigid or semi-rigid body which extends axially along a body axis, and has sufficient structural integrity to effect mixing of unset resin as the mixing head is rotated about its axis. The mixing head attachment includes one or more mixing blades or projections which define a mixing surface or face.

  • Patent number: 7226650
Abstract: A film wrapper for use in storing slugs and ropes of chemical anchoring adhesive includes an outer metallized polymer layer and a heat seal layer. The metallized polymer layer protects the chemical anchoring adhesive from premature reaction by providing a barrier to oxygen and light. The heat seal layer may also act as a moisture barrier layer. The chemical anchoring adhesive is divided into slugs of appropriate size for insertion into boreholes and cementing of anchor pins in the boreholes.

  • Patent number: 7179020
Abstract: An improved mine roof bolt is disclosed. The mine roof bolt comprises a bolt portion having a threaded end, a slidable camming nut, a stop, and an expansion shell having a central threaded nut with wedge fingers extending from it. The camming nut is fitted into the expansion shell which is threaded onto the threaded section of the bolt. Turning the bolt while it is in a hole causes the expansion shell to move along the bolt and carry the camming nut to the stop located on the bolt, and this causes the wedge fingers to engage with the camming nut, spreading the wedge fingers into contact with the hole sides. As the turning of the bolt continues, the relative movement of the camming nut and wedge fingers increases the wedging effect within the hole until the bolt is anchored in the hole. While turning of the bolt may serve to mix a catalytic adhesive, the adhesive is not needed to activate the mechanical anchoring mechanism of the mine roof bolt.

  • Patent number: 6435778
Abstract: A truss system for supporting a face of a passage in a geological structure, such as a mine roof. A truss support bracket is carried on the proximal end of an anchor positioned adjacent each of a pair of spaced boreholes formed in the face or mine roof. At least one of the brackets includes a retainer, such as a split wedge retainer, for receiving a corresponding end of a truss member, such as an elongated cable, spanning across the adjacent face. A rotary fastener threaded to the proximal end of each anchor holds each bracket in place. Using a motive device, such as the rotational socket on a bolting machine, a selected one of the fasteners is rotated such that the corresponding bracket is drawn along the anchor and at least partially into the borehole to tension the truss member.
