  • Patent number: 10525539
Abstract: A compression milling cutter includes a shank and a front cutting portion that terminates at a leading end of the milling cutter. The front cutting portion has a first circumferential row of one or more insert receiving pockets proximate a leading end of the milling cutter, and a second circumferential row of one or more insert receiving pockets, each insert receiving pocket configured to receive a respective indexable cutting insert. The cutting insert mounted in the first circumferential row has a positive axial rake angle, A, and the indexable cutting insert mounted in an insert pocket of the second circumferential row has a negative axial rake angle, B. Because of the different axial rake angles, chips generated during a machining operation flow in opposite directions, thereby creating a compression zone disposed between the first and second circumferential rows. This compression zone replicates the cutting action of a solid end mill, particularly when machining fiber reinforced plastic materials.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting insert having an essentially parallelepiped-shaped basic body with two larger spaced-apart longitudinal surfaces (10,11) which are connected to one another by two smaller transverse surfaces (12, 13) and two smaller longitudinal surfaces (14) designed as rake faces, wherein the smaller longitudinal surfaces (14) form with the adjacent surfaces a respective, encircling, closed cutting line which forms the cutting edges and rounded-off cutting corners, and the larger longitudinal surface (10, 11) merges on both sides via respective rounded-off edges into the smaller transverse surface (12, 13), and one of the rounded-off cutting corners is designed so as to project relative to a basic shape which is determined by the cutting lines, on both sides, of the larger longitudinal surfaces (10, 11) with the smaller longitudinal surfaces (14).

  • Publication number: 20080240870
Abstract: The invention relates to a milling head for milling chamfers, especially for a mobile chamfer miller, comprising successive seats for blanking dies, said seats having a position in which the blanking dies with a leading edge angle of between 40 and 75° operate respectively on average with a positive effective cutting angle of at least 6° and a clearance angle of at least 6°, and are provided for a border comprising blanking dies with a staggered arrangement of the cutting edges, such that respectively only one cutting edge length of 15 mm, preferably 12 mm, at the most, is active. Said measures increase the cutting performance of the milling head. The reduced cutting edge length can be formed on a long blanking die instead of using a shorter blanking die, in such a way that the cutting edge is interrupted by cavities or other e.g. flat triangular recesses on the surface of the blanking die. The staggered arrangement is then comparatively small.

Abstract: The cutter assembly contains an axle having a number of parallel, equally spaced troughs along the axial direction, and a number of circular blade discs, each having a center hole threaded through by the axle. Each blade disc has a number of teeth along the circumference of the center hole corresponding and matching to the troughs of the axle. The blade disc has fewer blades than the teeth and the blade discs therefore can be mounted on the axle in different orientations so that their blades are spirally arranged. The axle of the cutter assembly has a fixed end and the blade discs can be sequentially installed to or removed from the other free end. The bearing at the free end has a smaller diameter so that the blade discs can be removed or installed directly passing through the bearing without removing it first.

  • Publication number: 20080152444
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a rotary tool for chip removing machining with at least one chip flute that extends in the longitudinal direction of the tool. The method involves preparing a mixture of a cemented carbide, cermet or ceramics powder and a carrier, such as a polymer, and placing the mixture in an extruding machine. The mixture is extruded in a feed direction by means of a die to form the diameter of the mixture body. The mixture body passes against a chisel which forms a chip flute in the outer periphery of the mixture body by chip-removing machining. When the chisel is displaced away from the mixture body, a non-fluted shaft portion is formed. By rotating the mixture body while contacted by the chisel, a helical chip flute can be formed. Alternatively, the body could be twisted after a straight flute has been formed, whereupon the flute becomes helical.
