Abstract: A face milling cutter has a shank portion adjoining a cutting portion. The cutting portion terminates in a plurality of cutting edges extending in a radial direction from a central axis of the face milling cutter. The cutting edges are convexly curved at least along a part of their length. A portion of the cutting edges proximate the central axis is nearer in an axial direction to the shank portion than a point, X, on the cutting edges that is farthest away from the shank portion. • Patent number: 8807881
Abstract: In a semi-finishing cutter, rectangular tips and square tips are disposed in a staggered pattern in an axial direction in second to fourth step portions, so a single cutting edge is formed by a pair of one of the rectangular tips and one of the square tips. It is therefore possible to effectively reduce a frequency of contact with a blade root. A cutting speed of the semi-finishing cutter may be increased and a cutting feed may be made faster, so work in a semi-finishing process may be performed efficiently. The rectangular tips and the square tips have simple shapes, so known commercially available throwaway tips may be used. Accordingly, it is possible to provide the semi-finishing cutter in an easy-to-use form without increasing the cost.

Abstract: For producing forked roots of turbine blades, the turbine blades are, in a first step, roughed-in and smoothed (finished) on their outer faces in a single operation with two rigidly coupled disk milling cutters that are provided hard metal cutter inserts. In a second step, the forked root is formed with fingers by a set of rigidly coupled disk milling cutters that are provided with hard metal cutter inserts. The disk milling cutters form slots in the forked root. All of the slots are simultaneously opened (roughed-in) and smoothed (finished), the slots having parallel walls.

  • Patent number: 6709318
Abstract: A grinding wheel and a method for grinding bar blade for the production of spiral gear teeth are described. For economical grinding of such bar blades the grinding wheel has a conical grinding surface (Pp) widening from a small diameter (d1) to a large diameter (d2), a cylindrical grinding surface (Ps) adjoining the conical grinding surface (Pp), and a toroidal grinding surface (G) adjoining the cylindrical grinding surface (Ps). The grinding wheel embodied in this manner enables profile grinding (rough grinding) and subsequent generating grinding (finish grinding) of the surfaces of the bar blade without the necessity of remounting the blade. For practical purposes the grinding wheel rotates about a stationary axis (S), and the bar blade to be ground is guided along the grinding wheel at appropriately set angles.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method for making tenons using an adjustable shim placed between cutting blades. The adjustable shim has a plate with a recess capable of accepting spacers of varied thicknesses and a cover that encloses any of the spacers placed in the recess. The thickness of the adjustable shim is adjusted by placing spacers in the recess to shim apart the cutting blades leaving between them a distance approximately equal to the desired tenon thickness.

  • Patent number: 6368030
Abstract: A solid end mill is provided which can prolong the useful life of the tool, without any adhesion to the work material, even aluminum or similar material, during a or cutting or drilling operation. The solid end mill includes a chip discharge flute, which is formed in the outer periphery of a nearly cylindrical tool main body. The nearly cylindrical tool main body rotates around a central longitudinal axis. A cutting edge is formed at a ridge portion on the outer periphery of the tool main body. The cutting edge is adjacent to a wall surface constituting a rake face of the chip discharge flute. The rake face faces in the tool rotational direction. A convex portion may be formed so as to be adjacent to and raised from a concavely curved portion. The concavely curved portion stretches to the cutting edge and is formed between the flute bottom of the chip discharge flute and the cutting edge.

Abstract: A cutting tool having a body that is cylindrical in shape having a shank at one end and a cutting end opposite thereof. The cutting end has an even number of flutes thereon with every other flute being a cutting flute, such as a knuckle flute including a radial knuckle flute and a flat crested knuckle flute, or a diamond cut flute that cuts material. Every other flute therebetween the cutting flutes are wiper flutes that wipe or clean the cut material. The wiper flutes have a larger diameter than the cutting flutes thereby enabling the wiper flutes to remove any unnecessary debris and finish the material in a single step.

  • Patent number: 6055729
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a liquid jet recording head comprises the steps of obtaining a laminated body by laminating a liquid path formation layer forming liquid paths on a metallic base board having discharge energy generating elements on it, forming an orifice surface by cutting the laminated body thus obtained, and grinding the orifice surface thus formed by use of a cutting tool or a milling cutter. With this method that uses a metallic base board, it is possible to obtain a high-performance yet an inexpensive liquid jet recording head without any defects on the orifice surface, which contributes to implementing more stabilized liquid discharge.

Abstract: The cutting head for a surgical reamer has a leading end for insertion into a bone canal and a trailing end for attachment to a drive shaft. The cutting head has a cutting surface formed about an axis of rotation of the cutting head. The cutting surface is formed by the rotation of the cutting edges on a plurality of flutes spaced around the axis of rotation. Each cutting edge has a first portion spaced a predetermined radial distance from the axis of rotation at the tip portion and terminates at a terminating point which is at a greater radial distance from the axis of rotation than the starting point. The cutting edge on each flute has a second portion having a starting point at the trailing end of the cutting head which is at a second predetermined radial distance from the axis of rotation. The second portion extends axially towards the tip portion and terminates at a point at a greater radial distance from the axis of rotation than the starting point thereof.
