Including Rotatable Cam Clamp Element Patents (Class 407/93)
  • Patent number: 11148213
Abstract: A hardware fastener with a movable threaded element suspended within a cavity formed in a body. The movable threaded element has an internal surface with threads for cooperating with a threaded fastener. The movable threaded element is suspended in the cavity by the one or more spring-like members such that an area, A, of reduced stiffness is created in the cavity proximate the movable threaded element, thereby allowing the movable threaded element to move a predetermined distance within the cavity when torque is applied to the threaded fastener. The one or more spring-like members store elastic potential energy to prevent the loss of pretension of the threaded fastener that can be caused by heat or vibration. The invention also eliminates the need for a torque wrench when tightening the threaded fastener to a specified torque value.

  • Patent number: 8262323
Abstract: A clamping mechanism clamps a cutting insert in a tool body. The clamping mechanism has a clamping arm seated within a clamping arm pocket. The clamping arm includes a clamping protrusion extending rearwardly from a rear surface of the clamping arm. The cutting insert has a bore having an insert retaining surface and is seated within an insert pocket. Upon tightening the clamping arm into the tool body, the clamping protrusion presses against the insert retaining surface and the cutting insert is securely abutted within the insert pocket.

  • Patent number: 7600951
Abstract: An end mill has a plurality of quick change insert holders for cutter inserts on machine tools. Each of the plurality of quick change tool holders comprises a housing having at least one seat portion which is adapted to receive a cutter insert. A clamping arm is movably mounted in the insert housing and has a clamp portion adapted to engage a cutter insert extending over the seat portion. A locking mechanism is contained within the housing. The locking mechanism has a clamp position which forces the clamp portion of the clamping arm to engage a cutter insert and a release position which forces the clamp portion to disengage from a cutter insert. The locking mechanism moves between the release position and the clamp position.

  • Patent number: 6702526
Abstract: A cutting tool comprises a cutter body having at least one pocket therein. The pocket is adapted to receive a cutting insert cartridge. A position-adjusting device cooperates with the cartridge to move the cartridge in opposing directions. The body may have a pocket for receiving the cartridge. The device may include a cylindrical body member supported in a fixed axial relation within a bore in the body. The cylindrical body member may have an eccentric protrusion that engages the cartridge. The cylindrical body member may be displaceable to displace the protrusion and move the cartridge. A clamping wedge may be provided for clamping the cartridge in the pocket. The protrusion may engage a slot in a rear surface of the cartridge. The protrusion may engage the slot.

  • Patent number: 6155753
Abstract: A boring cutter assembly with fine adjustment is provided for finely adjusting the diameter of the bore to be formed and for compensating wear of the blade. The boring cutter assembly includes a cutter shaft including a distal end with a cutter seat for receiving a blade. A countersink is defined adjacent to the cutter seat. A bottom wall that defines the countersink includes a screw hole. The countersink and the screw hole together receive an adjusting screw. A first scale is provided on the distal end of the cutter seat and around the countersink. A second scale is provided on the top face of the fine adjusting screw and corresponds to the first scale. A side of the blade that defines a portion of the cutting clearance angle of the blade cooperates with the pitch of the fine adjusting screw, such that the blade is laterally moved when the fine adjusting screw moves vertically as a result of rotation thereof, thereby adjusting the diameter of the bore to be formed.

  • Patent number: 5642651
Abstract: The invention relates to a modular tool system consisting of a tool holder (10) with a fitting for a cutting insert holder (11) which, when released, is radially movable in relation to the tool holder by means of an adjusting screw (17) fitted in a threaded hole (16) in one of the holders and can be clamped with the tool holder by means of clamping screws (15). To provide an alternative radial adjustment of the tools or centred fitting without facilities for readjustment without a great deal of effort, the stop is a pin (18, 30) releasably securable in the holder, whereby at least one diameter of the pin is the same as that of the pin recess in the other holder and the blind hole in the first holder (20, 29), into which the projecting end of the pin enters and the hold for the adjusting screw opens perpendicularly thereto.

  • Patent number: 4695208
Abstract: A tool holder which is convertible to perform a variety of machining operations such as threading, turning and grooving comprises a support bar formed with a cavity which receives a mounting block having a seat adapted to support an insert so that the top surface of the insert is exposed and its cutting edge extends outwardly from the seat. The insert is clamped within the seat by a clamping block, which is secured atop the insert by a machine screw. The top edge of the clamping block is formed with a beveled bearing surface which engages the head of the machine screw so that forces are applied to the clamping block upon tightening of the screw which urge the insert downwardly, rearwardly and inwardly against the walls of the mounting block seat.
