  • Patent number: 9174279
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly includes a cutting tool and an indexable cutting insert having an insert index axis. The cutting insert includes parallel insert first and second sides connected by an insert peripheral surface that extends peripherally around the cutting insert. At least one clamping hole opens out to one or both of the insert first and second sides, and at least a portion of the clamping hole is in a clamping region of the cutting insert. The insert peripheral surface includes cutting edges that are spaced-apart and extend from the insert first side to the insert second side. Along a width direction, which is perpendicular to the insert first and second sides, each of the cutting edges is wider than the cutting insert, at least at the cutting region of the cutting insert.

  • Patent number: 7575399
Abstract: A self contained, toolless quick change tool holder for trigon cutter inserts on machine tools comprises a housing having at least one seat portion which is adapted to receive and conform to the shape of a variant shaped cutter insert. A fork is mounted in the insert housing and is movable within the insert housing. The fork engages a variant shaped cutter insert. A locking mechanism is contained within the housing and has a clamp position which forces the clamp portion to engage a variant shaped cutter insert and a release position which forces the clamp portion to disengage from a variant shaped cutter insert to allow removal and replacement of said variant shaped shaped cutter insert. The locking mechanism moves between the release position and the clamp position.

  • Patent number: 4477212
Abstract: A cutting tool, such as a turning tool, includes a clamping holder on which a clamping shoe is secured. The clamping shoe has a curved surface projecting member adjacent one end for securing a cutting bit in a recess in a first surface on the clamping holder. The projecting member seats within a shaped recess in the cutting bit. Guide cams are located adjacent the opposite end of the clamping shoe and contact a second surface on the clamping holder inclined relative to the first surface. A clamping bolt located between the projecting member and the guide cams secures the clamping shoe to the clamping holder. A spring encircling the bolt biases the clamping shoe outwardly from the clamping holder. A pin member is mounted in the second surface of the clamping holder and engages between the guide cams as protection against turning the clamping shoe about the axis of the clamping bolt.
