  • Publication number: 20080067729
Abstract: A holding fixture is disclosed for machining bearing caps that have a generally semi-cylindrical bearing bore on an interior surface and bolt shoulders on opposite sides that are drilled to receive bolts. The holding fixture comprises a fixture frame to which a mandrel is attached that receives the bearing caps with the bearing bore centered relative to the mandrel. A plurality of clamps engage an exterior portion of the bearing caps to retain the bearing caps on the mandrel. A method of manufacturing a bearing cap is also disclosed using a fixture that has a mandrel that is received in the bearing bore and clamps that engage the outer surface of the bearing caps. A pair of bolt shoulders of the bearing caps are machined and a bolt hole is drilled in each of the bolt shoulder portions. The bearing bores are subsequently machined with the bearing caps being located based upon the location of the bolt holes to form a plurality of finished bearing caps.

  • Patent number: 5902118
Abstract: In order to produce a three-dimensional circuit arrangement, two substrates (21, 26) which have components in the region of their boundary surfaces (22, 27) which touch one another are stacked one on top of the other. The substrates (21, 26) are firmly connected to one another via these boundary surfaces (22, 27). One of the substrates (21) can subsequently be thinned from the rear side (212) and can be provided with rear-side contacts (213), the other substrate (26) acting as a stabilizing supporting plate.

  • Patent number: 4752159
Abstract: A thread cutting apparatus and method are disclosed for the formation of tapered threads on the end of an elongated reinforcing bar of the type used in concrete structures. The apparatus includes a cutting head assembly having tool holder arms that are cantilevered outwardly from a face or barrier surface to effect cutting of the threads outwardly of the barrier so as to protect the guideways and cutting displacement structure control structure from chips and debris. The apparatus includes positive lead control for the thread cutting chasers, a rigid clamping structure for the bar and a fluid control assembly. The fluid control assembly is capable of positioning the cutting head and housing for one or a multiple number of frusto-conical cuts of predetermined depth to permit the simultaneous formation of threads and removal of material from the reinforcing bar end.

  • Patent number: 4669926
Abstract: A drill guide apparatus and method for its use is disclosed. The apparatus includes, in one embodiment, first and second vise jaws for clamping a workpiece. The vise jaws are adapted to receive a drill guide holder which includes first and second elongate members which properly position the drill guide itself. One end of each of the elongate members is attached to each of the vise jaws by pins which pass through the member and into a hole in the top of the vise jaw. The opposite ends of the elongate members are positioned above the space between the vise jaws and are hinged together by a ferrule which passes through the two members. A cylndrical drill guide which has a hole therethrough adapted in size to accept a particular size drill bit is fitted into the ferrule. The drill guide is thus located in a central position between the vise jaws above the workpiece which is clamped by the jaws.

  • Patent number: 4667548
Abstract: An end preparation tool for pipe fittings includes an end preparation tool having a rotary cutting head with shaping bits carried thereon mounted on a base that also carries a universal clamping fixture for pipe fittings having end openings to be machined in preparation for welding. The clamping fixture includes workpiece engaging clamping pads that permit adjustment of the position of the workpiece relative to a pair of opposed clamping plates that normally secure the pipe fitting in place relative to the cutting head of the end preparation tool. The clamping fixture includes adjustment features that enable the fixture to be moved transversely relative to the cutting head, along the rotary axis of the cutting head and about a vertical axis that permits indexing of the clamping fixture relative to the tool cutting head.

  • Patent number: 4218161
Abstract: A coupling arrangement for mounting a drill jig in selected position on a Hardinge-type fixture. An arm carries a drill bushing, through which the drill passes into a workpiece held by a Hardinge fixture. Adjustment of the arm relative to the fixture is provided by the use of gauging blocks which enable the arm to be preset. The coupling arrangement assures proper movement and location of the bushing relative to the fixture.
