To Control Relative Positioning Of Tool And Work Patents (Class 408/13)
  • Patent number: 4669927
Abstract: A deep hole drilling machine having a drill headstock and a drilling carriage, and a drill guide carriage disposed between them, at least two of these three units being displaceable on the machine bed, and the workpiece and/or the drill tube being rotatable. This machine is designed such that differences in workpiece or drill lengths, workpiece inaccuracies and different hole starting and hole finishing movements can be provided for automatically. This is accomplished by providing a length measuring system on each of the displaceable units; the reading made by each measuring system will depend on the position of its unit with respect to a reference point on the fixed unit. A comparator compares the relative positions of the displaceable units, while an evaluating circuit is provided for controlling the movement of at least one of the units on the basis of the readings made after the workpiece and the drill have been inserted into the machine.

  • Patent number: 4664566
Abstract: A drilling device includes a frame with a stationary and a movable upright and a transverse beam which connects said uprights with each other along which a drilling unit moves transversely to the advance direction of the workpiece and is set to provide boreholes in accordance to the center of a standard workpiece of nominal height. The workpiece is transported by a roller table and clamped by the movable upright to define a clamping path. Connected to the movable upright is a lever assembly which transmits the horizontal movement of this upright to a vertical bar. The displacement of the vertical bar rotates a horizontal rod which is linked via a crank arm/lever assembly to a transmission bar moved in horizontal direction upon rotation of the rod. The transmission bar is connected to a correction unit which in response to the determination of the clamping path acts on the drilling unit to adjust the latter in dependence on the actual height of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4326824
Abstract: The present disclosure teaches a process and related apparatus for longitudinal adjustment of tools for individual working spindles of a multiple-spindle automatically controlled machine tool. The tools introduced into the working spindles in the direction of their lengths to be adjusted are run in rapid advance in all cases against a measuring device which, on reaching a predetermined distance from the working part reference point, produces a first signal in which the rapid advances of the working spindles are switched off individually. The first signal from the measuring device finally reached by the tool involved switches on crawling speeds for all working spindles. The spindles are switched off individually on reaching the working-part reference points in all cases by a second signal from the measuring devices.

  • Patent number: 4289431
Abstract: A boring tool comprising a tool head provided with a slot extending transverse to the axis of the tool head in which a pair of opposite cutting knives are guided movable in longitudinal direction of the slot. A spacer is guided in the tool head movable between a first and a second position. In the first position the spacer is located between inner ends of the cutting knives which are spring biased to engage the spacer to be movable with the latter in the longitudinal direction of the slot while holding the cutting knives in a cutting position. In the second position the spacer frees the cutting knives to move under the influence of the biasing springs toward each other to an inactive position.

  • Patent number: 4211129
Abstract: The present method relates to finish boring of prebored bores in a work piece such that an operative fit with a counterpart or further work piece is achieved. The finishing of the bore may be accomplished independently of the instantaneous temperature of the work piece and of the counterpart by operating a tool carriage, for example, on a lathe, with a stepping motor controlled by a correction value computer which generates a control signal in response to a temperature difference between the work piece temperature and a reference temperature. The reference temperature may be that of the further work piece.

  • Patent number: 4204782
Abstract: A fixed station at a numerically controlled machine includes gauging means and automatic adjusting means for an adjustable cutting tool installed in the spindle of the numerically controlled machine. Multiple tools stored in the magazine of the NC machine for different cutting operations are provided with a common reference dimension to a cutting point so that the same gauge heads which include differential transducers registering respectively with the cutting point and reference surface of the tool can be employed to effect gauging and adjustment of different cutting tools.

  • Patent number: 4203691
Abstract: A contact detecting apparatus for detecting the contact of a workpiece with a tool in a machine tool which comprises a coil mounted on the periphery of a spindle head and connected to an AC power source for generating an induced current in a looped secondary circuit including the workpiece, a work table, a machine body, a spindle head, a tool spindle and the tool, when the workpiece and the tool are moved relatively into contact with each other. Bypassing elements are included in the secondary circuit for bypassing an electric resistance in spindle bearings. A detector is connected between the AC power source and the coil for detecting a change in an electric signal caused by the contact between the workpiece and the tool.

  • Patent number: 4157231
Abstract: A hydraulic drill unit for drilling multimaterial, thick layer stock having a conventional hydraulic drill modified to have its feed controlled by a servo valve and its spindle speed controlled by a servo valve. A linear encoder is attached to the drill to provide an indication of drill position. The linear encoded provides 20,000 forward and reverse pulses per inch, depending upon the direction of travel, which are used to determine net feed rate. The net feed rate signal is compared with a command feed rate to control the feed servo valve. A magnetic pickup is used to provide a pulse signal proportional to RPM. This signal is compared with a command speed signal to control the spindle speed servo valve. Differential pressure transducers are used to measure pressure across the hydraulic feed pistion and the hydraulic drill motor to provide signals which can be used as indications of chip packing or a dull drill.

  • Patent number: 4104919
Abstract: A circuit and process for eliminating unbalances on a rotor which permits equalization of unbalance only in constructionally predetermined equalization planes and component angles in which conventionally produced balance signals indicating the amounts and angles of unbalance are rectified and applied to an arithmetic circuit which produces output signals indicating the amounts of unbalance in equalization planes and, where balance in a given equalization plane is not possible, the amount of unbalance in a substitute plane. To permit balancing of different type workpieces having different dimensions, potentiometers are connected to the arithmetic circuit and to a longitudinal positioning circuit for applying signals indicating locations of the planes.

  • Patent number: 4016470
Abstract: Method and apparatus for accurately positioning a blank angular position transducer element for boring at its center. A relatively high frequency carrier signal is applied to the blank transducer element to be bored and is thereby induced in a master rotor element which is rotated at a constant speed in an operative relationship with the blank. The rotor is made deliberately eccentric with respect to its axis of rotation, and the induced signal contains a carrier signal, a component indicative of relative angular position, and a once-per-revolution eccentricity error component, if the blank element is also eccentric with respect to the axis of rotation. Error detection circuitry isolates the once-per-revolution eccentricity error component, and resolution circuitry resolves it into x and y directions for application to error display devices, or to actuators connected to move the blank transducer element automatically until the x and y components are both zero.
