With Tool-holding Clamp And Clamp Actuator Patents (Class 408/185)
  • Patent number: 4125342
Abstract: The rotating cutter head of a reamer is formed with a recess, open in a radially outward direction and one circumferential direction relative to the axis of rotation, and a blade is retained in the recess between opposite, radially extending faces of the head and of a clamping shoe that may be adjusted inward of the recess. Two face portions of the blade are engaged by the respective faces of the head and shoe in area contact in planes which converge in a radially outward direction at a small acute angle to prevent movement of the blade from an initial, radially adjusted position under cutting stress.

  • Patent number: 4096613
Abstract: A cutting tool which may comprise: an elongated bar member; an anvil member removably fastened to one end of the bar member and having an elongated recess in which a cutting insert may be received for rigid mounting between the anvil and bar members and for radial projection generally perpendicular to the axis of the bar member; and a chip deflector of substantially harder material than the bar member fixed to the bar member for juxtaposed relation with the cutting insert.

  • Patent number: 4043696
Abstract: A boring tool has a cutter mounted on a holder adjustable relative to the boring tool body. Adjustment of the cutter holder is effected by displaceable wedging surfaces in engagement with each other, one of such wedging surfaces being provided on the cutter holder and the other being provided on an adjustably displaceable wedge piece, the cutter holder body being substantially cylindrical but prevented from rotating by the wedge piece having a plane surface in engagement with a plane surface of the cutter holder.

  • Patent number: 4018542
Abstract: An adjustable tool holder for a boring bar has a first shank portion including a cutting tip keyed to a second shank portion to form a torsionally unitary cutting tool of constant exterior dimension receivable in a cylindrical bore in the boring bar. An adjusting screw is threadedly received in an axially extending bore in the first shank portion. The screw has an annular laterally enlarged head received and rotatable in an enlarged portion of the bore disposed in the second shank portion. An annular retaining bushing is press fit in a socket in the end of the second shank portion. The bushing retains the head of the adjusting screw within the enlarged portion of the axial bore, whereby rotation of the screw advances or retracts the first shank portion axially with respect to the second shank portion to a desired cutting position, the keying means between the mating shank portions preventing relative rotation therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4011025
Abstract: An expanding machine reamer whose cutter head has an imperforate core portion and three axially elongated rib portions radially projecting from the core portion in circumferentially spaced relationship. The rib portions are each formed with three bores approximately perpendicular to a common axial plane. A first bore receives a clamping screw engaging a clamping shoe which holds a cutting blade against a flank of the rib portion, second and third bores hold wedge-shaped abutment members radially engaging the blade and backing screws by means of which the radial position and the inclination of the cutting edge of the blade may be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4006995
Abstract: A drill for use in boring machines has a tool holder with two cutter bars having cutters projecting radially therefrom. The cutter bars are movably mounted in a radial direction in a recess passing through the tool holder. The tool holder includes a base part and walls projecting therefrom forming the recess therebetween. The cutter bars are arranged in this recess in end-to-end relation and are of a width substantially equal to the width of the recess. The base is provided with two slots therein communicating with the recess, the slots being offset with respect to each other and each extending from the outside of the base in a direction substantially parallel to the length of the recess up approximately to the central axis. Bolts engaged in the parts on opposite sides of the slots can be tightened to deform the walls of the recess so as to clamp the cutter bars therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4003670
Abstract: A holder for a cutting tool bit in the form of an elongated block and an elongated tang is disclosed. The tang has provision for supporting a throw-away tip. The tang is generally rectangular in cross section and has an edge defining an acute angle and a cylindrical clamping member which has a flat wedge-like edge on one side. The clamping member is threaded to receive a headed screw that extends through said body, urging the surface into clamped relation with the edge of the tang. A jack screw is extended through the tang and engages the bottom of the blind hole for moving the tang in precise increments relative to the block.
