    Abstract: A method for deburring and tool for use therein wherein workpiece-engaging portions of a cutter of the tool prevent the cutting of chamfers to hole edges of boreholes. The tool removes burrs from a drilling operation performed on a steering yoke. The yoke includes two boreholes on parallel legs that are drilled in line with one another. The boreholes must be burr-free with little or no chamfer. The cutter is spring-urged or loaded to pivot on a cylindrical shaft to expose cutting edges of the cutter after a predetermined amount of angular movement from a substantially vertical position. The workpiece-engaging portions prevent the cutter from digging in and cutting the chamfers. The cutter rotates into retracted positions within the shaft to allow the cutter to pass through the drilled boreholes so that the cutting edges of the cutter can deburr surfaces of the yoke at both sides of each of the legs.

A second set of inserts is provided at an enlarged diameter section of the shaft for performing multiple functions such as forming both the countersink and the spot face areas of the port. Each set of cutting inserts is substantially equidistantly disposed about the circumference of the shaft to reduce the chatter or deflection of the porting tool and therefore allow a port to be formed in adherence with very tight tolerances. In addition, since at least two inserts are provided at each diameter, the axial feed rate of the porting tool is relatively high in that a full revolution of the tool is not required to form a cut as is required by prior art porting tools.

The present invention provides methods and apparatus whereby such surfaces can be machined using a fixture to which a milling head or other machine tool is attached. In a preferred embodiment, a mounting plate is provided that contains holes or other features that cooperate with the structure to which the plate attached, thereby providing a rigid base for the machining operation. The present inventions also preferably uses a tool bar that has a cutting head that retracts and swivels. In its initial position the cutting head is swiveled inside the tool bar and the assembly can be inserted into a structure. Once inside, a threaded push rod is turned and manipulated to cause the cutting head to swivel, and then it is locked in place.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a boring tool which exhibits a cutting head with several cutting plates arranged on the periphery of the cutting head. Each of the cutting plates are pressable with a fastening device against a shoulder of the cutting head. The distances of the cutting plates from the longitudinal axis of the cutting head are slightly different. The cutting heads are staggered with respect to one another in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The cutting plates (1, 2, 3) are formed in a circular shape and are arranged so that the force exerted during operation of the cutting head by the cutting plates compensate each other. The effective cutting edge sections, projecting in an axial plane, continually blend into one another. The boring tool is particularly suitable as a fine boring tool for the production of precision bores.

    Abstract: A curved bore hole drilling apparatus and method utilizing two power driven drill shafts equipped with flexible shaft sections on the distal ends thereof with each flexible shaft section having a cutting tip. A semicircular channel shaped drill guide loosely engages each flexible shaft end section and is caused to rotate through an approximate 90.degree. angle as the cutting tips are advanced. The drill guides are pivotally mounted for rotation in substantially the same plane end, when rotated through an approximate 90.degree. angle so as to meet, the cutting tips of the associated rotating flexible drill bits form a curved semicircular bore hole which may extend through 180.degree.. The flexible shaft sections and guides are then backed out of the bore and the bore may be used for attachment of a tie such as a wire or a suture which is passed through the bore.
