Pivotable Tool Patents (Class 408/187)
  • Patent number: 4362446
Abstract: A torch tip rebuilding tool which can be held in one's hand and used to reface the seat located on one end of a used torch tip, and to reface the opposed outlet end of the tip. The tool has opposed cavities formed at each end which are aligned along the longitudinal axial centerline thereof. Within one of the cavities there is mounted a milling tool which receives the outlet end of the torch tip thereagainst so that relative rotation between the torch tip and the tool removes material from the outlet end. The other cavity has a plurality of blades pivotally captured therewithin in such a manner that the blades are radially spaced about the axial centerline of the tool with the cutting edges thereof disposed at an appropriate angle so that when the inlet end of a torch tip is placed within the cavity and relative rotation effected between the torch tip and the tool, material is simultaneously removed from both the seats located at the inlet end of the torch tip.

  • Patent number: 4303356
Abstract: A tool and method for deburring the edge of a hole through a plate, pipe, duct, or similar workpiece. The edge to be deburred is the edge away from the operator of the tool, e.g., the edge on the far side of the plate or on the inside of the pipe or duct. The tool has a pivotal deburring blade at the distal end of a longitudinal member. The blade is pivoted substantially parallel to the longitudinal member for insertion of the tool through or withdrawal of the tool from the hole. The blade is pivoted substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal member for deburring the edge of the hole. Pivoting of the blade is controlled without direct manipulation of the blade by the operator and without the use of any other members.

  • Patent number: 4243348
Abstract: A holder for a rotary metal cutter for use with a milling machine having a shouldered head portion, a cutter and a clamp member. The cutter is sandwiched between the clamp member and the shoulder of the head portion. Where it is desired that the cutter be adjustable on a horizontal plane, a variation of the holder is provided, which includes a clamp element cooperating with a clamp member to permit the required rotation and to assure a secure clamp on the cutter after adjustment. Variations of the holder are included for engaging two cutters set on opposite sides of the holder.

  • Patent number: 4165201
Abstract: This invention teaches a deburring tool comprising a tool holder with a plurality of knives having cutting edges capable of contact on a bore edge by advancing in a longitudinal direction of the tool holder, characterized in that the reaction force acting against the advancing force on one or more of the knives serves for the automatic control of the longitudinal displacement of the remaining knives.

  • Patent number: 4147463
Abstract: A deburring tool including an elongated arbor formed with a cutting blade recess. A unitary cutting tool has a cutting head with an elongated, flat, resilient blade extending therefrom. The blade is received in the recess, and the end of the blade opposite the cutting head is secured to the arbor by a pin and an adjustable screw with the cutting head projecting from the recess. Rotation of the screw causes pivotal adjustment of the blade to in turn adjust the unstressed position of the cutting head with respect to the recess. The portion of the blade that extends from the pin to the cutting head is yieldable to permit the cutting head to move resiliently inwardly with respect to the recess.

  • Patent number: 4128360
Abstract: This invention pertains to a cutting tool bit as used with and in the back spot facing tool as shown in my U.S. Pat. No. 3,827,821 as issued on Aug. 6, 1974. As shown in this patent the cutting tool bit member has unequal projections and cutting faces and it is contemplated that the shorter blade portion is three-quarters the length and has an effective cutting area three-quarters of the full length blade portion. To insure a smooth and flat spot face a precise grinding of this cutting tool bit is required. It is also required that the chips be directed in a desired spiral away from the cutting tool. An eight degree slope is provided as an angled face on the top surface of the cutting tool. The cutting edge of the cutting tool bit is also relieved preferably by a three degree slope away from the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4105360
Abstract: A boring tool assembly performs both the rough and finish cutting operations upon a metal work piece without power activation or manual adjustments of the tool units between the cutting strokes. The assembly includes a boring bar having a pair of fixed, diametrically opposed rough cut tool units, and a pair of retractable finish tool units diametrically opposed to each other also. The tool units are automatically operative in response to either the rough cut or the finish cut of the boring tool assembly. Spring biased plungers normally pivot the finish cutting units toward their cutting positions. During the initial or rough cutting operation, forces act upon the heel of the finish tools causing retraction from the cutting position. This is possible due to the cutting edge configuration and angle of orientation of the tools, the positioning of the tools on the trailing side of the boring bar centerline, and the direction of advancement of the boring bar.

  • Patent number: 4097181
Abstract: A rotary cutting tool having a shank and a head at one end of the shank, the head having a flat bed portion. A clamp for carrying a bit is mounted for rotation on the bed portion for angular adjustment of the bit relative to the bed portion. This clamp has a groove in one of its faces, the bit being axially slidable therein to different extended positions, and the groove has a depth less than the thickness of the bit such that the bit projects laterally from the groove for engagement with the bed portion. As the clamp is drawn toward the bed portion, the bit is clamped in the groove against the bed portion in any predetermined adjusted angular and extended position.
