Having Peripherally Spaced Cutting Edges Patents (Class 408/227)
  • Patent number: 4408363
Abstract: The thread conditioning device is for rotational movement about a threaded bolt to remove corrosion and debris and to otherwise condition the bolt threads for further use. The device or chaser includes a body having an opened and generally C-shaped configuration when viewed cross sectionally to its axis of rotation. The body of the device includes an interior threaded surface to engage the threads of the bolt to be conditioned, an exterior surface to mechanically engage, grasp and rotate the device, and two generally opposing end surfaces. The open portion of the C-shaped body is defined by two lateral surfaces which extend between the opposing end surfaces from the interior surface to the exterior surface of the device. The two lateral surfaces preferably form positive, acute angles relative to the interior surface of the body when viewed cross sectionally. The intersections of the lateral surfaces and the interior threaded surface form two generally spacially opposing plowing edges of the device.

  • Patent number: 4303358
Abstract: To reduce the requirement for stocking different types of holder plates for cutting chips 9, at least the chip holder plate 16 carrying the radially outermost chip, and the next adjacent chip holder plate 6 carrying the radially more inwardly positioned chip, have mutually engaged common abutment surfaces 19, 27. The tool body 1 is formed with a recess 5 in which the radially outermost chip holder plate and the next adjacent plate are commonly secured, for example by clamping bolts or screws extending inwardly into the tool body at an angle with respect to the tool body axis 26. All of the radially inwardly positioned chip holder plates 6 are of equal size and shape. The boring or drilling diameter of the tool is defined by the width of the radially outermost chip holder plate and the chip positioned thereon.

  • Patent number: 4295768
Abstract: A drilling and thread forming screw is provided with means for breaking the chips produced during the drilling process. An obstruction in the form of a truncated cylindrical element having its flat end portion substantially facing the cutting edge of the cutting surface and having its cylindrical centerline perpendicular to the cutting edge is provided on the cutting surface whereby a chip formed by the drilling process is turned back into a sharp radius, causing the chip to break.

  • Patent number: 4222689
Abstract: A screw having drilling, tapping and fastening functions at the same time comprises a slender shank having a tool receiving head formed at the rear end of the shank, a drill portion integral with the front end of the shank and a helical cutting screw thread on the outer periphery of the shank. The drill portion is flat or platelike in cross section and is tapered toward its tip to provide a pair of sharp drilling edges. A pair of ribs extending longitudinally of the shank are formed on the opposite long side portions of the drill portion in symmetrical arrangement. The ribs prevent break of the drill portion during cutting while permitting smooth removal of chips.

  • Patent number: 4205493
Abstract: A portable chamfering grinding device for chamfering the end of a metal tube comprising an abrasive wheel and a portable pneumatic motor capable of rotating the wheel at greater than 10,000 r.p.m., the wheel including a diverging frustoconical portion having an inner grinding surface at an angle of about 37.5.degree. to the axis of the wheel for receiving and grinding the end of the metal tube. The inner grinding surface has eight raised, substantially trapezoidal grinding portions thereof to provide cutting edges and reduce shaking and slipping during grinding of the metal tube end.

  • Patent number: 3976388
Abstract: A hand tool for concurrently removing burrs from the inner edge and outer edge of the cut end of EMT conduit. The preferred embodiment of the tool consists of a tee-shaped body having a deburring element disposed at the end of each arm of the tee, permitting three sizes of conduit to be deburred. A deburring element consists of a generally conical projection from the body having a circular rim surrounding the base of the conical projection, with the axis of the rim coincident with the axis of the conical projection. The interior surface of the rim and the exterior surface of the conical projection acutely diverge with respect to the intersection of these surfaces. The intersection forms a circle having a diameter approximately equal to the mean diameter of the conduit to be deburred. The surfaces are serrated, forming cutting surfaces.
