  • Patent number: 4302870
Abstract: An indexable revolving turret has a rotary tool carrier which is movable to a plurality of angularly spaced indexed positions, and an indexing shaft which is connected with the tool carrier for indexing the same to the respective ones of these positions. Cooperating spur gears are provided on the tool carrier and on the housing and become disengaged preliminarily to indexing of the tool carrier. A control shaft is driven by a drive so as to be rotated by the same and transmits motion to a Maltese-cross drive, an input member of which is mounted on and rotatable with the control shaft. The indexing shaft can be moved axially of itself, thereby moving the tool carrier into and out of indexing position, and for this purpose a cam drum is mounted on the control shaft and the cam follower slides in a cam groove of the cam drum and is connected with the indexing shaft so as to move the same into and out of an indexing position, depending upon the angular position of the cam drum.

  • Patent number: 4050354
Abstract: A machine tool equipped with a magazine and a guide drum which is disposed alongside the magazine. A tracer is mounted on the guide drum and is movable in a three coordinate system and the magazine contains tools which are also movable in a three coordinate system and in a direct ratio to the movement of the tracer. The tracer, which is attached to the guide drum, follows the profile or contour of a master or pattern and the compound motion is transmitted to the magazine containing the tools. Therefore, the tools are moved in the same way as the tracer so that the master or pattern is thus reproduced.

  • Patent number: 4050337
Abstract: Each chuck of the capstan is peripherally integral with a rim made from a relatively elastic material which defines, facing each indexing bore for the formation of a shock absorber/stop member, an orifice whose outlet cross-section is substantially the same as the inlet cross-section of the said bore and, in the vicinity of the indexing pin a cross-section which, at least in the direction of travel of the chuck, is larger than the cross-section of the end fitting of the said pin, each orifice having a sloping wall which converges towards the central area of the said chuck. The improvements forming the object of the invention are applicable to capstan tool holders for punching machines.

  • Patent number: 4041588
Abstract: A machine tool having a tool magazine containing a plurality of tools which can be conveyed into a working or reference position by movement of the tool magazine. The tools are disposed in the magazine in the form of a matrix having rows and columns. The tool magazine is traversed in the direction of the columns and rows into a number of positions corresponding to the number of columns and rows to facilitate a movement of each tool into a position of use.

  • Patent number: 4038739
Abstract: A machine tool for interchanging tool carrying units includes a guideway for slidably supporting the tool units, a substantially horizontal slideway, and a pivot member adjacent one end of the guideway. The tool carrying units are mounted about the pivot member. The tool also includes structure for rotating the pivot member about an axis parallel to the slideway for angularly moving the tool carrying units about the axis from an inoperative position to an operative position above the slideway or vice versa. A movable structure is mounted on the slideways. The tool includes structure for moving the movable structure along the slideway to engage the tool carrying unit in operative position and to move the interconnected movable structure and tool carrying unit along the slideway in a direction parallel to the axis to detach the tool carrying unit from the pivot member and to move said unit to a working position.

  • Patent number: 4018112
Abstract: A machine tool having an indexable turret in which the turret has a plurality of stations for supporting tools and with the tools in the stations being presented individually to workpiece operating position in a respective indexed position of the turret during a work cycle. At least two of the stations of the turret are provided with identical tools, forming a group, and on each work cycle one of the pair of stations is bypassed thereby providing a reserve tool which can be made effective without interrupting the work cycle of the machine. Advantageously, most of the tools carried by the turret are provided in groups so that substantially a complete set of reserve tools is provided. Each tool can be used for a certain number of work cycles, or the machine can be provided with adaptive, or tool sensing, controls which sense the dulling or breaking of a tool, or workpieces taken from the machine can be periodically guaged to determine when a particular tool has worn down to the allowable limit.
