Drill Press Adapted To Use Portable Hand Drill Patents (Class 408/712)
  • Patent number: 5006022
Abstract: An axially moveable portable tool, such as a drill, and a guide for the tool are disclosed. The tool is provided with a gripping means and an internal guideway parallel to the axis of tool movement on the grip side of the tool. The guide has a base with a post and a handle attached to and extending from the base. The post and handle are positioned so that a projection of the line of force applied during use to the tool grip and to the handle, both fall substantially within the base footprint. The portable tool can be attached to the post to assume a specific angle with the base and can be easily removed from it for independent use.

Abstract: A drill alignment apparatus for a drill adapted for osteoplastic surgery comprises an alignment rod mounted thereto and a clamp element. The alignment rod is parallel to and disposed a predetermined distance (D) from a shaft of the drill. The clamp element includes an aperture which permits passage of the rod. The clamp element is adapted to be affixed to a bone, such as a femur, so that the aperture is displaced from the central axis of the bone by substantially the same distance which the center axis of the alignment rod is displaced from the center axis of the drill shaft. When drilling is commenced, the forward end of the alignment rod is placed within the aperture of the clamp element. As drilling progresses, the rod passes through the aperture, thereby ensuring that drilling occurs along a predetermined drilling path extending along the bone axis.

  • Patent number: 4740119
Abstract: A dual, mirror-image lever and linkage assembly of a drill control mechanism advances the bit of the drill toward and away from a workpiece while retaining the bit at a true perpendicular orientation relative to the outer surface of the workpiece. Each linkage and lever assembly includes two levers which are arranged to provide a compound action and which are pivotally interconnected to a base by means of respective links which spread apart from each other as the levers are buckled to advance the bit toward the workpiece. The drill is releasably carried by a support that is fixed on each side to two guide pins that slide along a slot of a guide track which is secured to the base at a location between the two links. During advancement of the bit toward the workpiece, a handle region of one of the levers is moved toward the operator in order to provide enhanced perception of the rate of advancement of the bit which is particularly advantageous when drilling, for example, through safes.

  • Patent number: 4242016
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for use in conjunction with an electric drill to achieve precision drilling of holes at various desired angles in a workpiece. The apparatus comprises a base member which supports two pivoted, spring-containing columns bridged by a sliding carriage member carrying a spindle and chuck. The base member fits into an underlying anchoring means which assures accurate placement of the drill and steadiness of support. Hole indicator means, used in conjunction with said anchoring means enable precise location of hole sites on the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4136579
Abstract: A power drill attachment for exerting pressure through the drill bit onto the workpiece has a toggle linkage to provide a mechanical advantage of such sensitivity as to permit the operator to easily and quickly control the amount of pressure being exerted throughout the drilling operation. The attachment is especially adapted for use when drilling holes in door and window frames, through floor joists, studs, rafters and other building framework.

  • Patent number: 4057358
Abstract: A generally horizontal support table is provided including an upper surface and defining a transverse center line. A support member is supported from the table for guided rectilinear reciprocation toward and away from one side of the table in a plane normal to the upper surface of the table and the support member includes structure for supporting a rotatable chuck therefrom disposed above the upper surface of the table and in the aforementioned plane. The chuck faces toward the table and is adapted to rotatably support a drill bit. Further, a pair of abutment members overlie the upper surface of the table on opposite sides of the aforementioned plane and are supported from the table for guided movement toward and away from the plane along paths normal to the plane.

  • Patent number: 4011024
Abstract: Properly aligned threaded or smooth bores are machined in a pipe boss fla without requiring supplementary staging or makeshift rigs. An expandable holding sleeve is inserted in the throat of the pipe and a mounting unit is brought to rest on the outer surface of the pipe boss flange. A holding sleeve is expanded to engage the pipe and a bracket grips a projection from the mounting unit at a predetermined angular rotation while an extension of the bracket ensures a perpendicular orientation. A vertical feed mechanism mounted on the bracket directs a motor driven drill assembly through holes located in the mounting plate. After the holes and threads are machined in the pipe boss flange, the expandable sleeve is loosened and the unit is removed at a minimal time and effort expenditure.

  • Patent number: 3979165
Abstract: A drill guide intended as an accessory to a portable hand-held drill may be integrally or removably attached. The removable version is a separate unit, transferable from drill to drill. A drill guide foot contacts the stock to be drilled at an adjustable angle, while adjustable locknuts mounted on a spring-biased threaded rod accurately set the depth of the holes to be drilled.

  • Patent number: 3957387
Abstract: A holding device for a manually portable drilling machine includes a detachable tension element which is attached at two mutually opposite points to a carrier member for the portable drilling machine, the tension element being sufficiently long to encircle at least the horizontal circumference of the object to be drilled at the vertical level of the hole to be drilled. In addition the device includes a resilient bracing means provided between the portable drilling machine and the tension element when the drilling machine is located at a drilling site and the tension element is secured to the carrier so as to be in tension around the object to be drilled.

  • Patent number: RE33145
Abstract: The power tool has a magnetic base with superposed permanent magnet assemblies. The upper assembly can be moved relative to the lower assembly to subtract from or reinforce the magnetic field. The upper assembly is somewhat shorter than the lower assembly so even when the upper assembly is positioned to shunt to subtract from the flux of the lower assembly there will be some magnetic flux attracting the base to a ferromagnetic material. When the sensing probe is pushed into the base the electric motor can be switched on to rotate a spindle on which a rotary cutting tool is axially mounted. The tool feed is controlled by a handle which can be mounted on either side of the tool housing.
