  • Patent number: 8579553
Abstract: A method of installing cable through material, for example, concrete, wood, masonry, plastic steel, or the like comprising a drill bit with a distal end having a hollow tip with an attachment mechanism for receiving the cable. The drill bit is drilled through the material, and left in place while the cable is attached to the proximal end of the drill bit. There is no need to remove the drill bit from the aperture or material to attach the cable thereto. After attachment to the drill bit, the cable is inserted through the aperture with the drill bit and removed from the drill bit after it passes through the material so it can be attached to a receiver device.

  • Patent number: 7806635
Abstract: A tool for working a workpiece comprises an elongate member and a cam member. The elongate member comprises at least two extremities comprising at least one blade member. The at least two extremities are operable to separate in response to a pressurized medium. A conduit is in fluid communication with the extremities, and a pair of vents are in fluid communication with the conduit. The vents are operable to expel fluid communicated through the conduit. The cam member comprises an inner surface defining an opening. The inner surface of the cam resists expulsion of fluid from the vents, such that the cam and vents are operable to vary the pressure of fluid communicated through the conduit. The pressure variation varies the separation of the extremities as the elongate member is advanced through the cam toward a workpiece. The tool may be used to create bores having a non-cylindrical profile.

  • Patent number: 7717652
Abstract: A tool has a slot provided between a pair of extremities at its distal end. The extremities have cutting blades mounted thereon. The slot is configured to receive a plate. The tool has a conduit running along its axis for communication of pressurized fluid to the slot and plate. The plate directs flow of the pressurized fluid outward toward the extremities. The resulting outward force causes the extremities to bend outward, thereby urging the cutting blades outward for cutting, reaming, or other working of the workpiece. The resilience of the tool causes the extremities to return back inward when the fluid pressure is reduced. A plate may be configured to receive a wafer for transferring force from the pressurized fluid to the extremities. Some embodiments of the plate have an adjustment feature that is operable to selectively adjust the flow rate or pressure of fluid directed toward the extremities.

  • Patent number: 6533505
Abstract: A deburring tool capable of removing burrs and placing chamfers on circumferential edges surrounding both front and back side openings of a borehole, wherein the tool includes an elongated cylindrical arbor, a resilient arm section, and a replaceable cutting insert. In use, the rotating deburring tool is steadily advanced in a forward axial direction until the replaceable cutting insert encounters the circumferential edge of a front side opening, whereby the tool removes any burrs and creates a chamfer on that opening. Continued forward axial movement causes the replaceable cutting insert to retract within the arbor such that the tool continues through the borehole without damaging its interior surface. As the tool emerges from the back side opening of the borehole, the replaceable cutting insert is again allowed to extend out of the arbor and into a deburring position.

This purpose is served by two compression springs which comprise massive elements of foamed, open and closed cell polyurethane elastomer. This material has good spring and damping properties. The compression springs operate without fatigue. The tool holder also has a coupling which permits radial movements of the thread cutting tool transverse to the axis of rotation in order to compensate for alignment errors.

  • Patent number: 4979852
Abstract: An adjustable tool holder for cutting tools in boring machines having an internal drawbar includes a housing pivotally connected to a rotary spindle and a forwardly disposed cutting tool. A wedged camming surface is positioned forwardly on the drawbar for contact against an internal drive lever axially disposed for pivotal contact against the housing. Upon actuation of the drawbar the housing is stressed to a canted position causing pivotal adjustment of the cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 4903785
Abstract: A drilling and chiseling tool bit includes a tool bit head, an axially extending shank and an insertion end for insertion into a drilling or chiseling device. The shank extends between the tool bit head and the insertion end and is divided into individual axially aligned members. The individual shank members are held together by a retaining member which also interconnects the tool bit head and the insertion end. The tool bit head and insertion end are rotatable as a unit and are movable axially relative to one another. By dividing the shank axially, its individual members have a higher natural frequency and afford improved transmission of impact energy. As a result, preventing the excitation of natural vibrations in individual shank members, the vibration period is shorter compared to the impact transmission time period. Accordingly, the sound radiation from the tool bit is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4844670
Abstract: A cutter for the deburring of bores comprises a rectangular edged cutter element having taperingly extending cutting edges, having clearance surfaces ground undercut and comprising a convexly ground contact surface on one end of the cutter head for contact with the internal surface of a bore. Two oppositely aligned cutter elements are mounted for displacement in a radial direction in a guide recess of a tool holder, and while in the operative position during the deburring of a bore, the cutting elements are displaced inwards radially because of the tool holder feed and because of the tapered extension of the cutting edges, against a spring force in the guide recess, until they finally reach the inner area of the bore in the non-cutting mode.

  • Patent number: 4780029
Abstract: A tool holder for a numerically controlled machine tool, in which a cutting edge provided on a base member is adjustable with respect to a reference surface on the base member by adjustment means. The adjustment means comprise a U-shaped slot in the base member. This slot serves to form a pair of lever portions in the material of the base member, which lever portions are connected to each other by an area of the base member serving as a pivot. An adjustment screw threadingly engaging the base member acts upon the free end of one of said lever portions such that upon an adjusting movement of the adjustment screw the first lever portion is deflected in a predetermined direction to thereby deflect the second lever portion of the opposite direction. The second lever portion transmits its movement to the cutting edge by means of a spacing member disposed in the slot (FIG. 1).
