Engaging Surface Subsequent To Tool-action On That Surface Patents (Class 408/83)
  • Patent number: 11504784
Abstract: A cutting tool with interconnected arms that increases the stiffness to weight ratio of the cutting tool is described. The principles of the invention can be applied to any cutting tool, such as a reamer, a milling cutter, a slotting cutter, and the like. In one example, a cutting ring includes a cutting head assembly with a leading arm, a trailing arm, and a cutting head supported by the leading arm and the trailing arm. The trailing arm interconnects with the leading arm of an adjacent cutting head assembly, and the leading arm interconnects with a trailing arm of another adjacent cutting head assembly. As a result of this interconnection of arms, the axial, radial and tangential stiffness to weight ratio of the cutting tool is increased. A support member may be included to further increase the stiffness to weight ratio.

Abstract: A fixing device for fixing a boring bar on a material-removing machine includes a reducing sleeve with a hollow profile arranged on a front face which faces away from a machine chuck. The boring bar is received in an interior of the hollow profile. An end region of the boring bar projects from the hollow profile and carries a cutting tool. The hollow profile has a wall arranged between the interior and an exterior of the hollow profile. The wall has a first thickness and a second thickness. The first thickness is less than the second thickness. The first thickness is established at a side of the fixing device where the cutting tool projects radially from the boring bar. A longitudinal axis of the hollow profile is parallel to and at a distance from the axis of the reducing sleeve which is coaxial with the interior of the boring bar.

Abstract: In a first aspect, the invention relates to an edge-carrying drill body (1) of the type that is intended for deep hole drilling, and which is rotatable around a geometric axis (C) as well as comprises a through channel (2) arranged for internal chip evacuation, which channel mouths in front and rear ends of the body. Characteristic of the invention is that one or more cutting edges (4) are made integrally with the rest of the body, more precisely from a hard material, such as cemented carbide or CERMET. In a second aspect, the invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of such a drill body. In a third aspect, the invention furthermore relates to a drilling tool for deep hole drilling.

  • Patent number: 6830502
Abstract: A reaming tool is capable of reaming out several axially interspaced borings of a workpiece. The reaming tool includes a guide shank that can be clamped into a machine spindle and which can be supported in prepared borings of the workpiece to be machined by using external supporting elements. The reaming tool also includes a reaming head coaxially connected on the front end thereof. In order to be able to easily change a worn tool, the reaming head is connected to the guide shank by an auto-centering clamping mechanism. The supporting elements positioned in the proximity of the clamping mechanism can, during a clamping process, be radially spread outwardly from a smaller dimension to a predetermined diameter guide dimension.

  • Patent number: 6682275
Abstract: A deep hole drill for chip-removing drilling in a workpiece includes a body which has a cutting head and an integral cutting part. The body defines a longitudinal axis of rotation and has a longitudinal internal channel which opens into an end face of the cutting head for receiving cuttings that are entrained in a cooling medium. A chip removing insert is disposed on the cutting head. A support pad and a guide bar are disposed on a generally cylindrical outer peripheral surface of the cutting head and are arranged in circumferentially spaced relationship to one another. Cooling ducts are formed in the outer peripheral surface and are oriented generally parallel to the axis. The cooling ducts are open at the end face for conducting cooling medium thereto. The cooling ducts are situated adjacent the support pad and guide bar, respectively, for cooling same.

  • Patent number: 6299391
Abstract: A boring tool assembly is provided and has a cutting tool mounted on one end thereof and permits the boring of a straight hole through a member. The boring tool assembly includes a boring bar having integral guide members disposed thereon that follows behind the cutting tool and maintains contact with the machined surface just cut in order to keep the cutting tool in proper alignment. To permit the continued use of the boring bar after the outer diameter of the cutting tool has been reduced due to wear, each of the integral guide members are resiliently mounted on the boring bar. This permits the guide members to collapses inwardly to maintain a perfect fit with the pilot pore while maintaining bearing contact of the guide members with the pilot bore. The positive bearing contact helps to provide a dampening feature for the boring bar and a spring type force for the hardened guide members.
