Recession At Tool-axis Patents (Class 408/86)
  • Patent number: 11247280
Abstract: A rotatable tool for producing a circular groove through metal cutting in a metal work piece and a method of forming the circular groove with the rotatable tool is disclosed. The rotatable tool includes a front end and a second end. The front end includes a first radially outer cutting edge and a second radially inner cutting edge, where the first radially outer cutting edge is located at a larger radial distance from the tool center axis than any other cutting edge of the rotatable tool, and where the second radially inner cutting edge is located at a smaller radial distance from the tool center axis than any other cutting edge of the rotatable tool.

  • Patent number: 11203073
Abstract: A tool, such as a hole saw, including an open end cap geometry is provided. The end cap includes spokes extending between a hub and a rim. A plurality of openings are defined between the spokes, hub and rim. The area of the openings is substantially large relative to the area of the end cap such that the end cap is relatively lightweight and provides access into the hole saw for debris removal. The spokes are shaped and positioned to provide strength to the end cap.

  • Patent number: 4878786
Abstract: A drill bit is provided which has a central tine and first and second cutting tines, provided one on each side of the central tine. The lowermost end of each of the cutting tines is sharpened for cutting the stock. Thus the drill bit cores the material to form a hole thereby reducing the amount of material that must be cutaway. Further, the cutting tines are formed so as to have an enlarged distal head so that the main body portion of each of the tines has a slightly smaller cross-section than the cutting head. In this manner, friction can be reduced between the edges of the tines and the edges of the material being worked. Even further, the tine bit includes cutting blades between the central tine and the cutting tines in the event the stock is thicker than the length of the cutting tines.

  • Patent number: 4735528
Abstract: An improved bit-like device for proper removal of spot weld interconnections of upper and lower flat members, such as in sheet metal operations. The device includes an outer member sleeved over a bit shank, rotational and slidable connection structure between the outer member and the shank, a spring biasing the outer member to a non-work position, and stop members, preferably adjustable, to limit the relative axial movement of the outer member with respect to the shank and thereby limit the depth of metal removal.

  • Patent number: 4732514
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for use in reshaping the gate of a metal mould for plastic injection moulding. A device A for reshaping the gate recess 7 of a metal injection mould 3 for plastics injection moulding when the recess has become worn comprises a cylinder 9 containing a body 10 which is biased by a spring 15. A cutting tool 13, 13a is mounted on the front of the body 10 and is shaped to re-cut the recess 7 to the required shape. A pin 14 on the tool 13 fits in the gate 6 to centralize the tool 13. A plate 17 with a recess 16 to receive the tip of an injection nozzle 5 is rotatably mounted on the rear end of the cylinder 9 and holds the rear of the device A centered. In operation the cylinder 9 is rotated manually and turns the body 10 and the tool 13 with it owing to the keyway 11 and screw 12 forming a key.

  • Patent number: 4545707
Abstract: A set screw pocket drilling device for drilling blind holes in a pipe surface at a pipe joint for set screws holding the joint together including an externally threaded sleeve sized to fit the set screw hole and engage the surface of a pipe within a retainer in which the set screw hole is drilled, a drill fitting through and rotatable relative to the sleeve, and apparatus for rotating the drill relative to the sleeve. One embodiment of the device includes only a sleeve and a drill fitting through the sleeve having an outward end extending from the outward end of the sleeve for engagement of a wrench to rotate the drill and the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4295763
Abstract: A cutter for use in making plugs of wood or the like to be used in the insulation industry for plugging holes made in order to provide insulation in an existing structure. The cutter is adapted to be held in a chuck or the like for rotation about a central axis defined by a holder, with a pilot being spring biased in the holder and having a centering tit for locating the wooden plug as it is being cut. Four steel cutters are provided in circumaxially spaced relationship around the axis, and two of these are oriented at a slightly different angle than the other two such that the plug can be cut with two distinct tapers, such that the steeper plug taper permits the plug to be first located in the hole to be plugged, and a shallower slightly larger diameter tapered portion for securing the plug in the hole. Each cutter is adjustable in the holder, and is held in place by a screw with any number of shims being provided in order to cut plugs of different size.

  • Patent number: 4090804
Abstract: A circular cutting head assembly and centering drill of the type used, for example, in cutting holes in structural members such as I-beam webs, and flanges. The circular drill is characterized by a cylindrical body portion, supporting an inner centering drill plug. The centering drill plug is axially depressable as a centering hole is cut, so as to be pushed out of a mode of cutting registry with the outer cutting head and into a mode of non-registry which permits axial flow of lubricating oil through the body portion and onto the surface being cut within the periphery of the cutting teeth of the outer cutting head.
