Detachable Or Repositionable Tool Head Patents (Class 409/230)
  • Patent number: 6827530
Abstract: An apparatus and method for in-situ milling includes a support and a pair of spaced apart rails attached to the support. The support and rails are mounted between a pair of opposed mill housing wear plate surfaces. A milling assembly is reversibly mounted on the rails in either of a first orientation and a second orientation. In the first orientation, the milling assembly mills one of the wear plate surfaces. The milling assembly is reverse mounted on the rails to the second orientation for milling the other of the wear plate surfaces. This permits the support and the rails to remain in one position between the wear plate surfaces requiring only the milling assembly to be moved to accomplish milling of each of the wear plate surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5539966
Abstract: A machining head presenting a hollow body in turn presenting a first crosspiece with a seat for supporting in sliding manner a motor-driven tool spindle. The body also presents a second crosspiece fitted with means for axially displacing the spindle which may be of different lengths and is driven by an electric motor via a screw-nut screw pair located between the second crosspiece and a third crosspiece connected removably to the spindle. The second crosspiece presents an end portion pivoting by means of a pin on an appendix of the hollow body, and is fitted to the body by means of a pair of locating pins and a pair of screws. By disconnecting the third crosspiece from the spindle and rotating the second crosspiece about the pin, the spindle may be changed without removing the machining head from the machine. The locating pins are removed from their respective seats by means of a key in the form of a screw and normally housed in a seat on the crosspiece.

Abstract: A spindle head for a tool turret has a housing in which a spindle is mounted rotatably. A rotation lock for the spindle includes a bushing arranged to be longitudinally slidable but nonrotatable on the spindle. A securing element is provided on the bushing. The bushing securing element, in its work setting, engages a securing element on the housing, limiting the axial movement of the bushing relative to the housing in the direction of the form-locking engagement of the two securing elements, and can be disengaged by an axial movement of the bushing counter to the force of a prebiased spring in a direction away from the housing securing element. At least some of the cooperating surfaces of the securing elements in the work setting are inclined with respect to the axial direction to a degree that excludes self-locking.

  • Patent number: 5322494
Abstract: High speed cutting with machine tools is achieved with readily available bearings of a small diameter by mounting and presetting the cutting tool directly in a spindle of a spindle unit without employing a tool holder. Preferably, the spindle unit is small like a tool holder and can be easily changed with conventional kinds of tool changing apparatus. The elimination of the tool holder allows the conventional bearings to be kept small so that they may be operated at high speeds, e.g., 20,000 to 40,000 rpm, without excessive heat that would damage the bearings.
