Abstract: The non-axial force exerted on a pneumatic tool by a non-axial air supply is balanced to allow for uniformly radially distributed compliance forces on the tool. An annular air ring is disposed around the pneumatic tool, covering an air inlet port. Air is supplied by any route to a first air passage that supplies the air to the interior of the annular air ring, exerting a force on the annular air ring. Air flows in the annular space of the air ring, entering the tool air inlet port to drive the pneumatic tool. One or more second air passages are connected to the annular air ring in an even radial distribution. Each second air passage is connected to the air source, or terminates in an air blockage, creating a column of pressurized air that exerts a force on the annular air ring equal to the first air passage. The forces exerted on the air ring are thus balanced with respect to the axis of the tool.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for releasably holding a toolholder shank having a lockable surface and a releasable surface utilizing an actuating bolt with an associated threaded actuating nut. When the actuating bolt is rotated in a locking direction, the actuating nut is drawn onto the bolt thereby clamping against the lockable surfaces of the toolholder shank. When the actuating bolt is rotated in the releasing direction, a releasing segment acts upon the toolholder thereby ejecting it from the tool support member.

Abstract: An orbital machining apparatus for producing a workpiece hole with a cutting tool, including: a first actuator for rotating the tool about its longitudinal center axis during the machining of the hole; a second actuator for moving the tool in an axial feed direction substantially parallel to the tool axis; a third actuator for rotating the cutting tool about a principal axis; and a radial offset mechanism. The third actuator includes a rotating drive driven by a motor, a carrier ring connected to and rotated by the drive by two opposed, radial drive pins. The ring performs a radial sliding movement relative to the drive while being rotated thereby. Two opposed, radial carrier guide shafts circumferentially spaced 90° from the drive pins and connecting the ring and an inner cylindrical eccentric body such that the latter may perform a radial sliding movement relative to the ring while being rotated thereby.
