Patent number: 7035708Abstract: A computerized method for determining a tilt parameter of a cutting head of a fluid-jet apparatus. The method includes receiving a target-piece shape, describing an ordered path defining the target-piece shape, and segmenting the path into small straight lines of approximately equal length. The method further includes determining a cutting-head translation speed for each of the small straight lines, determining a tilt parameter of the cutting head with respect to the plane of the workpiece in response to the speed and a fluid jet-shape parameter for each of the small straight lines, storing the small straight lines and the determined tilt parameter associated with each small straight line in a memory, and sending the stored data to the fluid-jet apparatus. The method may include controlling the tilt of the cutting head in accordance with the tilt parameter for each small straight line as the cutting head cuts the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2005Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: OMAX CorporationInventor: John H. Publication number: 20020182025Abstract: A detailing tool for processing electronic component substrate includes a supporting frame, a substrate carrier movable on the supporting frame to receive and secure the substrate during processing by the tool, and a pair of cutter assembly attached to said supporting frame for removing tails on said substrate. The cutter assemblies self-align “to” the substrate during initial substrate loading in a processing area of the tool. Each cutter assembly includes a pair of spaced, translatable and opposed cutters that simultaneously move towards each another while removing the tails from the corners of the substrate that remains stationary. The pair of cutter assemblies are symmetrically attached to the supporting frame with respect to an axis for indexing the substrate. Thus, the invention provides a tool for cutting tails from opposite corners on the substrate edge automatically and simultaneously during processing.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2001Publication date: December 5, 2002Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Glenn S. Patent number: 4522540Abstract: A method and an apparatus for removing a cutting burr produced when longitudinally fusion-cutting a slab and sticking to the lower surface of the slab along the fusion-cutting line, which comprise placing a slab having the cutting burr on a roller table comprising a plurality of rollers and horizontally extending with the lower surface having the cutting burr of the slab down so that the line of the cutting burr agrees with the travelling direction of the roller table; lifting a cutter of a burr cutting machine provided below the roller table to bring the cutter into contact with the lower surface having the cutting burr of the slab; horizontally moving the cutter toward the line of the cutting burr of the slab until the cutter passes the line of the cutting burr while keeping the contact with the lower surface of the slab, to cut off a part of the cutting burr by a length corresponding to the total length of a knife of the cutter by means of the knife of the cutter, and, horizontally pulling the cutter backType: GrantFiled: March 16, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Nippon Kokan Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Nobuhisa Hasebe, Hiroshi Kawada, Naoki Yokoyama, Shigeki Komori

Patent number: 4362448Abstract: When a continuous cast slab is cut, such as by gas cutting, burrs tend to be caused at the cut edges. These burrs are removed by a plurality of edged cutting tools which are installed serially along the width of the slab to be treated. Each of the edged cutting tools may be selectively raised or tilted in the vertical direction or moved in the horizontal direction to substantially follow the warped or otherwise uneven surface on which the burrs are located. In this manner, substantially all of the burrs are exactly and completely removed.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1980Date of Patent: December 7, 1982Assignee: Nippon Kokan Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Nobuhisa Hasebe, Hiroshi Kawada, Tatsuo Kobatake

Patent number: H127Abstract: The invention is an improved device for sectoring screw threads on gun tu. The invention makes it possible to produce a plurality of sectors of screw threads on gun tubes instead of producing a single sector during each operation. The sectoring procedure is a machining process where portions of the screw thread are removed. The device for sectoring screw threads or gun tubes consists of a slide base assembly for positioning and holding other sub-assemblies of the device; a base plate with uprights for attaching to a machine tool bed or table; a clapper box head; and guide bars to provide for the exact positioning and longitudinal movement of the clapper box head.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1985Date of Patent: September 2, 1986Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventor: Thomas V.
