Abstract: A method of forming a recess in a work, a work in which the recess is to be formed is a material that can be cut. A cutting tool for forming the recess is held by a moving apparatus at a prescribed angle relative to the work. The cutting tool is moved in a carving direction for carving the work at the prescribed angle, and a thin cutting fin is vertically formed. Then, the cutting tool is moved in the horizontal direction, and the cutting fin is cut and separated from the work. The fin-forming step and the cutting step are repeatedly performed in sequence, whereby a recess having a prescribed depth d and area is formed in the work.
Abstract: When a slide member mounted with a tool reciprocates on a guide member reach one end and the other end positions of the guide member, permanent magnets provided on the guide member and the permanent magnets provided on the slide member repel each other to give the guide member forces for reversing its moving direction. The guide member is provided to be movable with respect to a base and repulsive forces between permanent magnets provided on the base and permanent magnets provided on the guide member are used to retain an axial position of the guide member.
Abstract: A machining apparatus capable of irregularly forming a plurality of dimples on a surface of a workpiece in a short period of time. The machining apparatus includes a tool for machining a plurality of dimples on a surface of a workpiece, each dimple having a depth in a first direction; a drive unit for displacing the tool relative to the workpiece in the first direction and a second direction generally perpendicular to the first direction; a controller for controlling the drive unit so as to displace the tool relative to the workpiece in the first direction such that the tool cuts into or leaves the workpiece, while the tool is being moved relative to the workpiece in the second direction, wherein a trigger of the displacement of the tool in the first direction is timing calculated by using a second waveform, the second waveform being determined by comparing the magnitude of a first waveform with a predetermined threshold, at least one of frequency and amplitude of the first waveform being irregular.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for producing a contour of a planiform piece, intended, in particular, for the internal trim of motor vehicles, in which said piece (1) is cut to define at least an apex (2) of said contour (3), having a given profile P, and a side (4), or so-called first side, of said contour (3) extending from said apex (2). According to the invention, there are carried out sequentially: on one hand, cutting of said piece (1) to produce simultaneously at least said apex (2), according to said profile P, and to cut said first side (4) over a portion, referred to as a fraction F, of its length extending from said apex (2); on the other hand, at least another operation of cutting said piece (1) to produce said first side (4), including at least a portion at least of said fraction F.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting grooves onto the interior surface of the barrel of a plasticating machine in order to increase the friction against sliding unmelted resin particles. The helical screw is removed from the barrel without removing the barrel from its operating site. A grooving device is transported from a remote location to the plasticating operation site and mounted within the barrel with a portion protruding from the barrel. A brace is attached to the end of the barrel to help support the grooving device. Periodic adjustments are made to the grooving device by manual or automatic manipulation of the grooving device.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for removing a plurality of strips from the top or outermost layer of a multilayered product having a complex shape to expose a substrate having one or more properties substantially different from those of the top or outermost layer. The invention is particulary intended for use with a metal coated plastic support frame which may be used in the handle of an illuminating or examining device such as laryngoscopes. The support frame comprises a means to hold batteries, a light source and a switch, all integrally formed into a single structure. The apparatus and method of the invention are employed to electrically segregate areas of the metal coated support frame by removing strips of the metal coating.
Abstract: A plate-edge machining apparatus comprises a workbench for supporting a plate and a movable abutment for positioning the plate border to be machined in a machining position projecting beyond the workbench. The plate is retained by a movable plate holder. A tool carriage is reciprocably movable relative to a fixed sliding guide and carries two machining tools, each tool being associated with a relative edge of the plate border such that both of said edges can be machined.
