Abstract: Methods of fly-cutting a workpiece are disclosed, and in methods in which the position of a fly-cutting head or its associated cutting element is known as a function of time. Also disclosed are methods of forming features, such as grooves or groove segments, in a workpiece such as a cylindrical roll. The features may be provided according to one or more disclosed patterns. Articles made using tools machined in the manner described are also provided, such as polymeric film or sheeting that exhibit certain beneficial properties.

Abstract: A gear machining apparatus causes a machining tool and a workpiece to rotate at a high speed in synchronization with each other to machine a highly accurate gear through cutting. The machining tool is manufactured such that each of pitches between tool blades of the machining tool is an integer multiple of a pitch between teeth of the gear, the integer multiple being equal to or larger than double. By using the machining tool for cutting performed by the gear machining apparatus, the number of the tool blades of the machining tool, which are brought into contact with the workpiece at the same time, is reduced. Thus, it is possible to suppress occurrence of self-excited vibrations during cutting by reducing the cutting resistance. Thus, it is possible to enhance the tooth trace accuracy of the gear.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a processing head for processing machines, preferably tooth milling and tooth grinding machines, comprising a direct drive which is arranged in a processing head bed of a processing machine, wherein the direct drive comprises at least two motors actuatable in synchronism with each other.
Abstract: The present invention is to provide a machine tool in which appropriate warm-up operation can be performed. Unnecessary warm-up operation before machining is not carried out and damage of bearings caused by the warm-up operation is prevented. A controlling unit stores data of a supply amount of lubricant to bearings and a rotation speed of a main spindle in a memory unit as time-series data. When rotation of the main spindle is started, the time-series data stored in the memory unit is used to calculate an amount of remaining lubricant in the bearings and determination of necessity of warm-up operation is made based upon the stored data. A rotation speed at a start-up time of the main spindle is controlled according to the determination result.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a globoid screw for use as a mainrotor in a compressor or expander wherein a cylindrical rotor body is mounted for rotation about the longitudinal axis thereof, a cutter having a plurality of teeth at spaced locations around a circumference disposed in a plane and having an axis of rotation disposed perpendicular to that plane is mounted for rotation about its axis and is disposed so that the plane thereof is parallel to the rotor body longitudinal axis and so that the cutter rotational axis is perpendicular to the rotor longitudinal axis, and the rotor body and the cutter are rotated at synchronized speeds.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a globoid screw for use as a mainrotor in a compressor or expander wherein a cylindrical rotor body is mounted for rotation about the longitudinal axis thereof, a cutter having a pluality of teeth at spaced locations around a circumference disposed in a plane and having an axis of rotation disposed perpendicular to that plane is mounted for rotation about its axis and is disposed so that the plane thereof is parallel to the rotor body longitudinal axis and so that the cutter rotational axis is perpendicular to the rotor longitudinal axis, and the rotor body and the cutter are rotated at synchronized speeds.
Abstract: Apparatus for recapping tires, particularly of the type used on off-the-road vehicles. Rubber strips are applied to the prepared tread surface of the tire to "smooth" the tire, after which the tire is disposed on a roller assembly to cut i.e., "groove" a tread design in the tire. The roller assembly is hydraulically displaced to dispose the tire in a pit and is rotated for indexing the tire to groove the circumference thereof. A grooving blade is heated to a controlled temperature and is hydraulically pulled across the tread surface to cut the tread grooves.
