Abstract: A woodworking apparatus including a work carriage having a base mounted on a bed for rectilinear sliding movement along a first axis in a first plane and a work platform mounted on the base for rectilinear sliding movement along a second axis parallel to the first axis and in a second plane parallel to the first plane. A tool carriage carrying a motor driven rotary cutting tool is mounted on the bed for rectilinear sliding movement along a third axis transverse to the first and second axes. Levers are provided for actuating movements of the base, the platform, and the tool carriage. A gas spring may be connected with the tool carriage to counterbalance the weight of the tool carriage assembly. A template and following stylus also may be provided for guiding the tool carriage relative to the work carriage in accordance with a predetermined pattern. The work surface supporting a workpiece may be tilted relative to the rotational axis of the cutting tool.
Abstract: An X-Y coordinate carriage for a routing machine with which such a routing machine can be retrofitted. The coordinate carriage includes a cross-carriage and a longitudinal carriage having a torsion- and bending-resistant frame of lightweight construction, displaceably guided by mutually spaced bearings on a guide shaft mountable laterally to a worktable of the routing machine and supported on an opposite side of the worktable by a support roller against a support rod fastened laterally thereto and running parallel to the guide shaft. Guide shafts and retaining blocks support and guide the cross carriage, and bearing blocks are provided for displaceable mounting the cross carriage. The bearing blocks are disposed in spaces between hollow members of the longitudinal carriage and the cross carriage, whereby the guide shafts run approximately at a level of longitudinal horizontal center plane of the hollow members of the longitudinal carriage.
Abstract: This concerns a machine press for woodworking, particularly to produce mortises and tenons, and characterized by its simple construction, yet allowing rapid and accurate operation. This woodworking press comprises a base, a first carriage slidable to and fro relative to a cutting tool, a second carriage slidable on the first carriage transversely relative to the direction of the first carriage, an actuation arm pivotally connected to the base and to the second carriage to selectively displace either carriage in its corresponding direction, a crank readily accessible to adjust the cutting tool in height with respect to the two carriages, and various abutments and adjustable stops to rapidly position the piece of wood or board, and produce the desired depth and lengths of cuts.
Abstract: The following specification discloses a universal guide or pattern for use with a panograph. The panograph can comprise a number of arms that are interconnected at hinge points that support a spindle having a cutting tool for milling or cutting a circular, ornate, or eccentric shape, as well as angles and lines. The spindle with the cutter correspondingly follows the movement of a stylus that overlies the universal pattern that is formed with an arm that guides the stylus in either a two or three dimensional pattern. The pattern is formed in part on a plate having a centrally oriented pin or support post that holds a rotatable arm having a scale thereon. The rotatable arm has a pair of stops that can be set along its length at different locations with respect to the scale. The panograph stylus can be implaced within a stylus holder that moves along the arm between the stops or within the stylus holder that is secured by a set screw.
