Abstract: A locking device to engage with an upper end of a lower elongate member and a lower end of an upper elongate member wherein the upper and lower elongate members are telescopically engaged. The locking device is operable in a disengaged position to frictionally hold the position of the lower elongate member relative to the upper elongate member. In the disengaged position, the locking device prevents retraction of the lower elongate member relative to the upper elongate member but enables extension of the lower elongate member relative to the upper elongate member. If a compressive force is applied to retract the lower elongate member within the upper elongate member, then the locking device grips the lower elongate member with more force to prevent retraction of the lower elongate member within the upper elongate member when the locking device is in the disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 7322781
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for stabilizing cargo within a transport container. An apparatus includes first and second tubular elements having generally cylindrical bodies and bases at one end which can react against opposing surfaces within the transport container and stabilize cargo within the container. One base of one tubular member can react against a surface of cargo and the other base of the other tubular member can react against an opposing surface of other cargo or an internal wall of the transport container. An extension mechanism allows for the extension and selective translation between the first and second tubular members allowing the apparatus to extend and fill the space between opposing surfaces within the transport container and stabilize the cargo.

  • Patent number: 7290742
Abstract: An adjustable support tool for either vertical or horizontal mounting. The adjustable support tool comprises a rod slidably received by a tube. The rod has depressions formed thereon. A threaded portion is coupled to the tube and a hand grip tightener is turnable engaged to the threaded portion for adjusting their overall length. A ratchet housing is resiliently engaged to the hand grip tightener. The ratchet housing has a ratchet for securerly engaging to one of the depressions, a wheel spring for rollably engaging to another one of the depressions, a safety lock pivotally engaged to the ratchet housing for prevent access to the ratchet when locked. When the rod is slided, the wheel spring pushes up the ratchet from its underside to loosen its engagement. The loosened ratchet allows the rod to slide more smoothly, while protecting the painted surface on the rod. Both the ratchet and threaded portion provide adjustment to the overall length of the support tool.

  • Patent number: 7048485
Abstract: A telescoping cargo brace is disclosed in which the brace secures cargo on at least three sides while minimizing the use of walls or contact points to secure the cargo. The brace is a fork-shaped or u-shaped telescoping device that secures between adjacent walls of a storage container or transport vehicle. The forked shaped portion of the device has two parallel, spaced apart legs each of which telescopes perpendicularly from a shared cross-member. Likewise, each leg is telescoping. Thus, both the legs and the cross-member are scalable along their respective lengths to adjust to the size of a load of cargo. The brace also includes a third telescoping leg, opposite the fork-shaped portion, so as to permit the device to be installed between adjacent walls utilizing only three contact points. An adjustment mechanism controls extension of the telescoping legs and the outward pressure exerted on the walls by the brace.

  • Patent number: 6840725
Abstract: A load restraint for use in a container is disclosed. The road restraint comprises a support to locate and extend generally vertically within a first locating formation (such as a corrugation in a wall) within a container. A transverse member extends from the support member across the container to engage with a second locating formation (such as another corrugation). A load engaging member is secured to the transverse member to extend from the transverse member to engage a load within the container. The load engaging member is adjustable in position with respect to the transverse member whereby it can contact a load spaced from the transverse member over a range of distances.

  • Patent number: 6830418
Abstract: A system including apparatus and methods for compressively retaining cargo to a vehicular surface may, upon adjustment, frictionally engage the underside of the upper lip of a truck bed sidewall and transmit a compressive force to a cargo retention element positioned substantially above vehicular cargo. A vertical compression force enhancement element, which may be the same as an adjustable vertical compression force transfer element, may be a threaded rod and threadably mated nut system. The invention also discloses an extendable vertical compression force base element to fit differently sized truck beds, for example.

  • Patent number: 6827533
Abstract: A cargo retainer device and method adapted for mounting within a cargo container having an end wall, an opposite parallel pivoted end wall defining a container length therebetween, two opposite parallel side walls defining a container width therebetween, and a floor. The cargo retainer device is adapted to be interposed between cargo in the container and either the end wall, sidewall, or the floor to inhibit movement of the cargo during transit. The cargo container includes a first extension member, a second extension member perpendicularly oriented to the first extension member, and screw threads to facilitate an increase in the first and second extension member lengths to contact against the respective container walls and floor. A lockable element secures the screw threads on the first extension member to restrict theft of the cargo retainer device from the container and addition of a cargo divider assembly can further prevent cargo movement.

  • Patent number: 6733220
Abstract: A cargo bar including first and second bars extending from opposite sides of a grip housing, with distal ends thereof defining a cargo bar length. An advancement pawl moves the first bar away from the second bar to increase the cargo bar length. A holding pawl prevents the first bar from moving back toward the second bar to decrease the cargo bar length. First and second handles are rotatably attached to the housing between folded positions proximate to the housing and operating positions extending away from the housing. The first handle has an engagement portion that engages with and operates the advancement pawl as the first and second handles are squeezed together. The holding pawl includes a release tab that extends from the housing that when pressed, causes the holding pawl to release the first bar and allow it to move to decrease the cargo bar length.

  • Patent number: 6698984
Abstract: An improved structure extendible tip shoring bar comprising an outer rod connected to a base enables the extension and retraction inserted inside the outer rod and base.
