Patent number: 10589658Abstract: A tie-down strap tensioner maintains a desired strap tension on cargo when placed on a truck flatbed or sea transport. Tie-down strap tensioners are made of rubbery-type resins that remain compressive in the amount of hand applied pressure on the strap assigned to a given cargo container shape. The tie-down strap tensioner has at least three different embodiments: one is for round or radius corners such barrels, one is for square corners such as boxes, and one is for either or both round and square corners. Each tie-down strap tensioner has an upper surface and a lower surface and the lower surface has extending members that are compressive in amount of tension applied to the strap thus accommodates the shape of the cargo container selected which remains expandable to its original shape.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2018Date of Patent: March 17, 2020Assignee: CONVEY, INC.Inventors: Ray G. An extension mechanism allows for the extension and selective translation between the first and second tubular members allowing the apparatus to extend and fill the space between opposing surfaces within the transport container and stabilize the cargo. A method for stabilizing cargo within a transport container includes providing an extensible load stabilizer having first and second tubular elements, each having a base, positioning the load stabilizer between opposing surfaces within the transport container, and extending the tubular members with respect to each other, and stabilizing a surface of cargo against an opposing surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2006Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Inventor: Matthew Bullock

Patent number: 7578646Abstract: An anchoring system for a craft according to one embodiment includes a first portion for forming a first loop around a handlebar, the first portion having a free end; a second portion for forming a second loop around the handlebar, the second portion having a free end; and a cross member extending between the first and second portions, wherein a length of the cross member is selectively adjustable. Tension exerted on the free end of the first portion causes the first loop to exert a wrapping force on the handlebar when wrapped therearound. Tension exerted on the free end of the second portion causes the second loop to exert a wrapping force on the handlebar when wrapped therearound.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2006Date of Patent: August 25, 2009Inventor: Michael B. Patent number: 7503738Abstract: A dunnage holder constructed by a vertically oriented steel tube that has a generally hollow rectangular cross-section adapted for inserting into a stake hole around an outer rail of a flatbed trailer, the steel tube that has a length of at least 3-inches; and a U-shaped steel channel permanently attached by straddling in an inverted position to a top of the steel tube, the U-shaped steel channel that has an opening sufficiently large to receive a first end of a 4-inch by 4-inch wooden brace therein and to dispose the wooden brace across a full width of a flatbed of the trailer when a second end of the wooden brace is received by a corresponding, oppositely positioned U-shaped steel channel on an opposite end of the flatbed.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2008Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Inventor: Gregory T. Patent number: 7431547Abstract: A restraint, e.g. a corner restraint for packaging flat glass sheets, includes a first leg and a second leg joined at a vertex. Each of the legs have an outer surface having a first strap engaging position spaced from the vertex and a second strap engaging position at the vertex. The height of the first strap engaging position measure from an intermediate portion of the second surface between the first and second positions is greater than the height of the second strap engaging position. With this arrangement, the biasing force applied by a banding strap to the corner restraint reduces the biasing force applied to the vertex to reduce damage to corners of the flat glass sheets.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2005Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.Inventors: James R. Geary, George L. Noey, Darrell K. Jewell, Timothy R. Leone, George J. McElhinny, Aleksandr S. Sobkin

Patent number: 7381020Abstract: A method for loading tube bundles on a railcar includes placing the tube bundles lengthwise on the car and stacked above the bed of the car to form tube bundle packs. The packs are separated by panels. A spacing block is configured to go within the longitudinally extending remaining space left over after loading a finite number of packs. This spacing block include parallel plates which are rigidly displaced one from another by blocks. Padding is arranged on the outer side of the plates and the panels. Padding is arranged on the bulkheads as well. The panels and spacing block may be tied to the railcar through boards and dunnage.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2005Date of Patent: June 3, 2008Assignee: Western Tube & Conduit CorporationInventors: Goro Terao, Efren Ramirez, Stanley Curtis Whittemore

Patent number: 7322781Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for stabilizing cargo within a transport container. An apparatus includes first and second tubular elements having generally cylindrical bodies and bases at one end which can react against opposing surfaces within the transport container and stabilize cargo within the container. One base of one tubular member can react against a surface of cargo and the other base of the other tubular member can react against an opposing surface of other cargo or an internal wall of the transport container. An extension mechanism allows for the extension and selective translation between the first and second tubular members allowing the apparatus to extend and fill the space between opposing surfaces within the transport container and stabilize the cargo.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2005Date of Patent: January 29, 2008Inventor: Matthew Bullock

Patent number: 7014402Abstract: A rotatable finger assembly including one or more fingers, supports or separators mounted for individual rotational movement from a first supporting or separating position to a second out-of-the-way position. A shaft provides an external longitudinal spline which is temporarily lockingly engageable within one of a pair of internal longitudinal radially-spaced grooves on a surrounding mounting mechanism to which the fingers, supports or separators are attachable. The rotatable finger assembly is easy and inexpensive to manufacture and is quickly adaptable for use in a variety of applications, including but not limited to spacing and/or separating items. The apparatus is also useful in the protection against damage due to contact during transportation. The assembly permits any number of rotatable fingers having the same or different profiles to be mounted quickly and easily in accordance with the desired result.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2003Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: Sertapak Inc.Inventor: Marty Kessler

Patent number: 6840725Abstract: A load restraint for use in a container is disclosed. The road restraint comprises a support to locate and extend generally vertically within a first locating formation (such as a corrugation in a wall) within a container. A transverse member extends from the support member across the container to engage with a second locating formation (such as another corrugation). A load engaging member is secured to the transverse member to extend from the transverse member to engage a load within the container. The load engaging member is adjustable in position with respect to the transverse member whereby it can contact a load spaced from the transverse member over a range of distances.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2003Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Inventor: Anthony Moore
