In addition, the nut member can be threaded to receive a fastener. The mandrel is recyclable or disposable.

  • Patent number: 7575404
Abstract: A rivetless nut plate assembly, which is fully preassembled, which can be installed into an aperture of a composite material workpiece, such as a carbon fiber structure, without risking delamination of the workpiece. The rivetless nut plate assembly includes a nut, a holding bracket, a retainer, and a sleeve member. Additionally, a stem is used to install the rivetless nut plate assembly. The sleeve member is configured such that the nut plate assembly can be installed in a composite material workpiece without risking delamination. The sleeve member may be formed of 45Cb-55Ti Titanium Columbium, as Titanium Columbium is a high strength and ductile material that resists corrosion in the presence of, for example, a carbon fiber composite structure. Monel, Titanium alloys, and other soft Nickel alloys are also good material selections for the sleeve, for similar reasons.

Abstract: A load control mechanism for use with a pull type tool, wherein the mechanism includes a telescopic housing and a compressible element, such as a polyurethane compression spring, which works to limit the ultimate load which is applied by the pull type tool during operation, such as during removal of a rivetless nut plate from a hole in parent material. Also provided is a method of removing a rivetless nut plate by using a pulling head which includes a telescopic housing and a compressible element. The load control mechanism provides that a riveter can be used to remove a rivetless nut plate without breaking a mandrel, causing undue wear on components of the tool, or damaging the parent material.

Abstract: A cage nut assembly includes a nut having a cylindrical portion extending from a plate portion. The nut is encaged in a cage such that the cylindrical portion extends through an aperture in the cage. The cylindrical portion of the nut is collapsible such that the nut collapses and provides a plurality of flanges upon an application of force. The flanges are folded or curved/mushroomed such that the plate portion of the nut is suspended within the cage so that the nut will not, or will minimally, stick to the cage or workpiece when coated with e-coat or ELPO. Upon torqueing a fastener into place, the flanges are bent up to allow the plate portion to interface with the cage or a workpiece to provide a solid joint.

The device includes an anchor nut which is fabricated from a first material, the nut defining the bore and a plurality of radially extending ears. A base plate is fabricated from a second material, the plate having a first and a second face, the first face cooperating with the plurality of ears. The second face of the plate defines a plurality of dimples for facilitating welding of the plate to the structure. A plurality of arms extend from the plate, such that each ear of the plurality of ears is disposed between a corresponding arm of the plurality of arms and the first face of the plate for capturing the nut relative to the plate. Also, a stop extends from the anchor nut, the stop being disposed between adjacent ears for controlling rotational movement of the anchor nut relative to the plate.

Abstract: The “Protector Sleeve For Wires And Pipes In Wood Frame Construction” is a cylindrical grommet/bushing, that looks like a short length of pipe, that fits snugly in any hole drilled through a stud or joist in wood frame construction and which has anchors on both sides to keep it in place. When the “Protector Sleeve” is in place it shields the hole that was drilled and thereby protects the wire or pipe that the hole was drilled for from being punctured by any screw or nail that might be driven through the wall and into the stud. The “Protector Sleeve” also serves to provide a smooth surface for wires to pass through as they are being pulled through several studs at a time towards their end point. The “Protector Sleeve” also reinforces the stud where it was weakened by the hole that was drilled.

Abstract: A threaded blind insert includes a shank with an axial bore therethrough having a head at one end and a threaded region of the bore at the opposite end. The wall of the shank between its outer surface and the bore includes a weakened deformable portion created by a reduced outside diameter of the shank in that area. A reinforcement collar integral with the shank is located at approximately the middle of the deformable portion of the shank thus providing a more rigid area at the collar which creates bulges in the deformable portion on either side of the collar when the insert is compressed. A flange located adjacent the underside of the head of the insert has an outer diameter greater than the shank but less than the head. When fitted into a mounting hole of a workpiece, the flange centers the insert and provides an annular gap between the shank and the mounting hole.

  • Patent number: 6183180
Abstract: A tubular stem (14) at one end of a nut mount (10) is inserted into an opening (O) in a wall (W) and is expanded to connect it to the wall (W). An annular collar or space (16) contacts the wall (W) where it immediately surrounds the opening (O). A clip-on nut (12) is clipped onto a nut receptor (18) that is endwise outwardly of the collar (16). A pushing movement on the clip-on nut (12) moves catch tabs (54, 56) past diametrically opposite edge portions (30, 32) of the nut receptor (18), placing them into positions below the edge portions (30, 32) of the nut receptor (18). When the catches (54, 56) are so positioned, they hold the clip-on nut (12) on the nut receptor (18). The clip-on nut (12) may be a sealed nut. If so, catch tabs (54, 56) are positioned so that when they engage underneath portions of the edge portions (30, 32) of the nut receptor, a seal ring at the base of the clip-on nut (12) is compressed.
