Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for permanently attaching a take-up screw (3) for taking-up the axial clearance of the armature shaft of a windscreen wiper motor. The take-up screw (3) is screwed axially into a bore (1) in the motor base (SM) until it reaches a stop position in relation to the armature shaft (6) locked on the screw, At least one surface discontinuity (2) is provided in the bore (1) and/or the thread of the screw (3), allowing the screw (3) to be screwed into the bore until it reaches the stop position. The screw (3) is screwed into the bore until the stop position is reached and a screw- and/or motor base-deformation strain (D) is applied at the discontinuity (2) in order to deform the side surface of the screw (3) and/or motor base (SM) and permanently attach the screw (3) and/or motor base by means of wedging in the discontinuity. The invention is suitable for the wind-screen wiper motors of motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 7708509
Abstract: Retainer for threaded fasteners such as the cap screws that secure the end caps of roller bearing assemblies to railroad axles. A locking plate is constrained against rotation relative to the fastener, a lock ring having a plurality of openings disposed along a circular path is placed over the head of the fastener, with the fastener being received in a non-circular central opening in the ring and thereby constrained against rotation relative to the ring, and tabs extending from the locking plate and engaging the lock ring through the openings to retain the lock ring on the fastener and prevent the lock ring and fastener from turning. In the disclosed embodiments, the ring can be placed on the fastener in different rotative positions, and the number of tab openings is either a prime number or another number that is not divisible by factors of the number of ring positions, whereby the fastener can be selectively locked in a relatively large number of different positions no more than a few degrees apart.

  • Patent number: 6823430
Abstract: A memory system for a computational circuit having a pipeline includes at least one functional unit and an address generator that generates a memory address. A coherent cache memory is responsive to the address generator and is addressed by the memory address. The cache memory is capable of generating a cache memory output. A non-coherent directory-less associative memory is responsive to the address generator and is addressable by the memory address. The associative memory receives input data from the cache memory. The associative memory is capable of generating an associative memory output that is delivered to the functional unit. A comparison circuit compares the associative memory output to the cache memory output and asserts a miscompare signal when the associative memory output is not equal to the cache memory output.

Abstract: A robust fastener locking device (10, 20) prevents loosening of a fastener (F) used to attach to two parts (P1, P2) together. A plate (12, 22) fits against a part and abuts against at least two adjacent sides (S1, S2) of the part. The plate has an opening (14, 24) therein sized for a bolt to be inserted through the opening with the head of the bolt, or the nut (N) bearing against the plate when the fastener is secured in place. A portion of the plate adjacent the opening is deformable about the fastener after the fastener is secured in place to prevent subsequent rotation of the fastener which would loosen the fastener. In one embodiment, tabs (30a-30c) are formed adjacent the opening and can be bent about the portion of the fastener. The tab is broken off if the fastener needs to be removed, but the locking device can be reused.
