  • Patent number: 11149775
Abstract: A fastener is installed by applying an axial pressing force onto a mating component such as a round pin or a square tab. The fastener includes spring arms formed by bent tabs which deflect when pressed onto and grip the pin or other mating component between jaws of the arms making the fastener resistant to being pulled off. Downward facing fingers located around the periphery of the fastener flex when they come into contact with another portion of the mating component. This creates a residual clamp load between the fastener and the component. The fastener can easily be removed using a tool similar to snap ring pliers or needle nose pliers. Two holes on opposite sides of the fastener allow the part to be squeezed and deformed into an oval shape. This action disengages the arms and allows the fastener to slide off the mating component without resistance.

  • Patent number: 6966735
Abstract: In a screw locking assembly a pair of washers having inclined surfaces are interposed between a screw member on a tightening side and a member to be tightened, with the inclined surfaces being mutually contacted. These inclined surfaces circle around once in spiral form with a lead angle ? smaller than a lead angle ? of the screw, and both ends thereof are connected with a tier face in the axial direction. By conducting an initial-tightening in a state with an interval of a preset angle maintained between the tier faces, and tightening and rotating the screw member on the tightening side until the tier faces come into contact with each other, a tightening force proportional to that angle is generated, and the tightening force is controlled surely with precision.

  • Patent number: 5967723
Abstract: A nut and bolt locking system including a bolt having an anti-lock threaded shaft receiving a lock washer thereon with a plurality of spaced ears and mating anti-lock configuration. A nut threads onto the bolt shaft after placement of the washer thereof. The nut has flats on its front face that mate with the ears on the lock washer. As the nut is torqued onto the bolt during assembly, the ears of the lock washer deform back into the flats of the nut locking the washer to the nut.

  • Patent number: 5795037
Abstract: A novel axle nut system is provided on the spindle ends of an axle which mounts a wheel assembly that includes tapered roller bearings. The axle nut system of the present invention includes an adjustment nut, a washer and a retainer member. The adjustment nut is threaded into position having torque applied to it in a controlled manner to achieve specific preload bearing pressure against the outer bearings. Thereafter, the washer is placed into contact with the nut and is rotationally fixed with respect to the axle. Next, the threaded retainer member is rotated into contact with the washer. With the threaded retainer member placed on the axle to prevent any outward movement of either the wheel assembly components or the adjustment nut and washer, the adjustment nut is rotated in the opposite direction by which it was installed until it jams forcibly against the washer and thus, the threaded retainer member.

  • Patent number: 5221168
Abstract: A device for fixing an external part to a shaft, which clam a boll and roller bearing by a washer and a nut. The washer is provided with a plurality of projecting engageable pawls on the outer periphery thereof and a projecting tongue piece on the inner periphery thereof. This tongue piece is inserted into an engageable groove formed in an externally threaded portion of the shaft. The nut has engageable grooves for receiving the engageable pawls of the washer, on the outer periphery thereof. This nut is threadably coupled onto the externally threaded portion of the shaft, thereby the ball and roller bearing is clamped interposing the washer between the bearing and the nut. The tongue piece of the washer is formed in such a manner that, out of the opposite ends in the circumferential direction of the tongue piece, at least the forward end in a direction of rotation of fastening the nut is positioned on the center line or thereabout of the engageable pawl. The shaft may be a hollow shaft.
