    Abstract: The present invention has been made to solve the above problems, and accordingly an object thereof is to provide a looseness preventive nut which does not loosen even if vibrations are applied, and can be used as a single nut. In at least a first embodiment, the invention provides a looseness preventive nut 1 which is a nut threadedly engaging with a bolt 10, the nut being configured so that a lateral groove 3 extending in the radial direction in the range such that at least a part of a threaded portion 2 is cut, preferably in the range beyond the centerline C of the nut, is formed at a position slightly lower than a substantially middle point of the nut in the height direction.

    Abstract: A washer for accommodating the shank of a threaded bolt is formed with at least one slanted opposing face having an angle such that the lower face of a nut, threaded on the bolt, is urged into entire surface contact with the upper face of the washer, while the lower face of the washer is urged into entire surface contact with the upper surface of the article fastened to the bolt. Embodiments include an inclination angle of about 2 degrees to about 2.4 degrees, thereby providing an adequate shearing stress to the shank while concurrently providing a substantially vertical force to the upper face of the article to prevent loosening of the knot.

    Abstract: A fastening system for securing an article to a base uses a conventional drive fastener. A reaction surface on the article contacts the bearing surface on the underside of the fastener head causing the fastener head to tilt relative to the body of the fastener. The reaction surface also causes the body of the drive fastener to deform when it is fully driven into the article, and a portion of the material from the reaction surface is displaced into the aperture to increase the retention force of the fastener.

    Abstract: A thread cleaning nut including a nut body having a central axis, first and second spaced apart faces formed on the nut body and a central aperture extending through the nut body along a central axis between the first and second faces. A screw thread is formed between the first and second faces within the central aperture wherein less than one-half of the first face is shaped as a first flat surface and more than one-half of the first face is shaped as a second flat surface inclined at an actue angle to the first flat surface. An end portion of the screw thread between the first and second surfaces is exposed to define at least one cutting tooth for cutting a path for the screw thread. The first and second surfaces intersect a third flat surface. The third flat surface intersects the central aperture at a position spaced from the central axis and it intersects the end portion of the screw thread at an acute angle to define a cutting edge of the at least one cutting tooth.

    Abstract: A load-bearing member is positioned in a slot extending through a composite structure of laminated reinforced plastic having overlapping layers of fabric plies embedded in a thermoplastic material. A connecting means such as a shank of a bolt connects the load-bearing member with a second structure. The load-bearing member has a flat surface engageable with a flat surface of the slot which is generally parallel with the edge surface of the composite structure in abutting relationship with a surface of the second structure. The slot extends through the overlapping layers of fabric plies in such a manner that the load is distributed by the load-bearing member to avoid the concentration of forces which cause shear failure and delamination.
