Periphery Encompassing Means (e.g., A Sleeve) Patents (Class 411/235)
  • Patent number: 8992537
Abstract: A woven retention device for interfacing with a bone surface includes interwoven filaments forming a tubular lattice with protuberances distributed on interior and exterior surfaces of the lattice at a predetermined spatial relationship. The protuberances are formed by intersecting interwoven filaments. The retention device receives and surrounds a fastener. In a first, relaxed state, the retention device has multiple combinations of filament cross-section geometries at the intersection points, and the multiple combinations of filament cross-section geometries form multiple protuberance thicknesses. In a second state when surrounding at least a portion of the fastener, the retention device distributes pressure from the fastener to multiple points of contact on the exterior surface of the retention device such that a spatial relationship of the protuberances changes as a function of bone density of the bone surface and as a function of an interfacing surface shape of the fastener.

  • Patent number: 7172380
Abstract: A wheel nut assembly includes a stud (1), a main wheel nut (4) mountable on threads (3) provided on the stud, and a retaining nut (6) engageable with threads (5) provided on the stud to prevent accidental loosening of the wheel nut (4). The threads of the wheel nut (4) and the threads for the retaining nut (6) are of opposite hand. A cap (11) is slidably mounted on the retaining nut (6) and biased into a first position by a spring (16). The cap (11) includes multi-hexagonal profiles (12, 14) for engaging hexagonal profiles (13, 15) provided on the retaining nut (6) and on the main wheel nut (4). Accordingly, in the first position, the retaining nut (6) and the main wheel nut (4) are rotationally locked to each other and because of the opposite hand of the respective threads it is not possible to remove the retaining nut. To release the retaining nut (6), the cap (11) is grasped and pulled to the limit permitted by the spring (16) to permit rotation of the retaining nut (6) and removal thereof.

  • Patent number: 4858960
Abstract: A locking device for a firehouse coupling having a pair of generally semi-cylindrically shaped members for embracing the coupling in the manner of a bracelet, the semi-cylindrically shaped members each having projections extending inwardly of the device for retainingly engaging projections on the firehouse.A locking pin is provided for releasable securing the semi-cylindrically shaped members around the firehouse coupling with the inwardly extending projections in retaining engagement with the coupling projection.

  • Patent number: 4493597
Abstract: A removable reusable nut lock system (10) of the locking cap type for positively selectively removably retaining a standard nut (12) on the externally threaded end of a shaft (14) is provided. The lock nut assembly comprises an internally threaded bore (22) provided in the end of an externally threaded shaft having internal threads (24) of an opposite hand as the external threads (16) on the shaft. A locking cup member (26) is provided for slipping over the outer periphery of the nut for rotation therewith and the locking cup member is provided with a flange (32) having a plurality of ramp type ratchet teeth (38) on the outer periphery thereof. A locking cap member (28) is provided having an externally threaded stud (50) fixed thereto and a plurality of locking fingers (58, 60) extending radially outwardly and downwardly therefrom.
