Patent number: 11078951Abstract: An assembly for a coupling together rotatable components according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a rotor shaft extending along a centerline axis, the rotor shaft defining an inner bore extending from an axial end of the rotor shaft, a gear mounted on an outer diameter of the rotor shaft, a lock nut threadedly engaged with the outer diameter of the rotor shaft such that the lock nut abuts against an axial end face of the gear, and a retainer including a step portion extending from a head portion and including a projection portion extending from the step portion. The projection portion is insertable into the inner bore to bias the lock nut against the axial end face of the gear, and the step portion is dimensioned to establish an interference fit with the rotor shaft along the inner bore. A starter assembly and a method of assembly are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2019Date of Patent: August 3, 2021Assignee: HAMILTON SUNDSTRAND CORPORATIONInventors: Yiwei Jiang, Michael R. Patent number: 8147531Abstract: A compression pin for urging two bone regions together includes a pin body having a distal end, an opposed proximal end, a first threaded region, and a second threaded region. The first threaded region is positioned near the distal end, and the second threaded region is positioned near the first threaded region. The first threaded region includes a first thread having a FT leading surface that is at a FT leading angle, and the second threaded region includes a second thread having a ST leading surface that is at a ST leading angle that is different than the FT leading angle. During insertion of the compression pin, the first threaded region and the second threaded region cooperate to aggressively compress the bone regions together.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2007Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Tornier, Inc.Inventors: Ernie Corrao, Rebecca Hawkins Wahl, Alan G. Patent number: 7585237Abstract: A bicycle component is configured with an axle fixing structure. In the preferred embodiment, the bicycle component is an electric derailleur. The bicycle component has a base member rotatably supported on an axle. Preferably, the axle includes a shaft portion with a head portion disposed adjacent a first end of the shaft portion for limiting axial movement of the base member in a first axial direction of the shaft portion, and a threaded portion disposed adjacent a second end of the shaft portion with external threads. A first locking member is threaded onto the external threads and configured to limit axial movement of the base member in a second axial direction of the shaft portion. Preferably, a second locking member is threaded into the internal threads of the second end of the shaft portion to secure the first locking member on the fastening portion of the axle.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2004Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Assignee: Shimano Inc.Inventor: Masahiko Fukuda

Patent number: 7172380Abstract: A wheel nut assembly includes a stud (1), a main wheel nut (4) mountable on threads (3) provided on the stud, and a retaining nut (6) engageable with threads (5) provided on the stud to prevent accidental loosening of the wheel nut (4). The threads of the wheel nut (4) and the threads for the retaining nut (6) are of opposite hand. A cap (11) is slidably mounted on the retaining nut (6) and biased into a first position by a spring (16). The cap (11) includes multi-hexagonal profiles (12, 14) for engaging hexagonal profiles (13, 15) provided on the retaining nut (6) and on the main wheel nut (4). Accordingly, in the first position, the retaining nut (6) and the main wheel nut (4) are rotationally locked to each other and because of the opposite hand of the respective threads it is not possible to remove the retaining nut. To release the retaining nut (6), the cap (11) is grasped and pulled to the limit permitted by the spring (16) to permit rotation of the retaining nut (6) and removal thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2001Date of Patent: February 6, 2007Assignee: Wheelsure Technologies LimitedInventors: John Sydney Lees, David Daniel George Vile

Patent number: 5855463Abstract: A friction thread locking device assembly consisting of several components, which are so constructed and assemble to resist the rotational effects of vibration forces. The resistance is achieved by the use and placement of opposing threads (right and left hand threads) with differing threads per inch and the containment of a compressed spring force and the use of the clearance between matching female and male threads. This bolt and nut assembly by unique construction, combines and improves the aspects of the standard bolt and nut with a spring lock washer. The outer nut and inner nut matching threads are axially aligned and the two are threaded together in opposite directions to compresses the captured spring(s) or lock washer(s). This preloaded, three part assembly with matching inner female threads on both the outer nut and inner nut are axially aligned with each other is then rotated onto the threaded rod with matching male threads.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1997Date of Patent: January 5, 1999Inventor: John C. Patent number: 5544991Abstract: A two-piece locking nut which includes a first nut (22) having an internal thread and a frusto-conical surface (32) at one end of said first nut, a second nut (28) having an internal thread of opposite hand as the thread of said first nut and a frusto-conical surface (36) at an end of said second nut which is complimentary to and positioned adjacent said frusto-conical surface of said first nut to prevent relative movement therebetween, and the second axial end (38) of the first nut opposite the frusto-conical surface (32) is positioned adjacent a workpiece to prevent axial displacement thereof.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventor: John A. Patent number: 5391032Abstract: A reusable positive locking device having a nut threaded onto a bolt shank to a certain closure position wherein a locking element is screwed onto the bolt shank against the nut and a crown element cupped over the end of the bolt shank is screwed onto the bolt shank to engage the locking element and is then given an additional increment of turning so as to elastically deform biasing means between the crown element and its threaded engagement with the bolt shank, thus closing up play among the bolt shank and the locking element and the crown and the nut, the threaded connections between the locking element and the bolt shank and between the the crown element and the bolt shank being of a different direction, and the locking and crown elements being held together against relative rotation by releasable detent means.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1993Date of Patent: February 21, 1995Inventor: Michael Vassalotti
