Split Ring Patents (Class 411/248)
  • Patent number: 10968945
Abstract: A lock nut system includes a nut having a retaining member which includes locking teeth configured to engage with the lock nut teeth. The retaining member is rotatable in both a clockwise or counterclockwise direction a preselected distance to allow the locking teeth to mesh with the nut teeth so the lock nut can be locked into position on the shaft without further rotation or other adjustment of the nut.

  • Patent number: 9863459
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a fastener lock for engaging a threaded fastener. The fastener lock defines a discontinuous circular opening therethrough with at least one extending tab extending into the discontinuous circular opening. When a threaded fastener is disposed in the discontinuous circular opening, the at least one extending tab engages the threads of the threaded fastener.

  • Patent number: 8961090
Abstract: An axle nut for preloading a bearing is provided. The axle nut may be used to apply and monitor preload on a bearing or bearing assembly. The axle nut includes a cylindrical body having a first end, a second end having a face adapted to bear against a surface, a longitudinal axis, and an outer surface engagable by a tool; a threaded through-hole directed substantially along the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical body; and at least one recess in the face of the second end of the cylindrical body, the at least one recess adapted to expose at least a portion of the surface the face bears against. The first end of the axle may comprise a nut locking mechanism, for example, the nut locking mechanism may include a counter bore having a plurality of internal projections, such as, gear or spline teeth.

  • Patent number: 8899896
Abstract: A nut lock includes a nut body, a locking coil, and a cage. The locking coil includes first and second tangs and has an internal diameter that is smaller than the internal diameter of the nut body. The cage is fixed within the nut body and includes a circumferential wall defining first and second stops. The locking coil is located within the cage, and the first and second tangs are positioned proximate the first and second stops of the cage. The first tang engages the first stop when the nut lock is turned in a first direction, and the second tang engages the second stop when the nut lock is turned in a second direction.

  • Patent number: 8328486
Abstract: A wheel retention nut includes a body having a front face and a rear face. A central bore with internal threads extends through the body. A first outer perimeter of a first diameter is positioned adjacent to the front face. The first outer perimeter defines a polygon adapted to receive a wrench. A second outer perimeter of a second diameter, which is larger than the first diameter, is positioned adjacent to the rear face. The second outer perimeter is sized to retain an eccentrically rotating wheel.

  • Patent number: 7303367
Abstract: A lock nut system includes a molded nut having a plurality of teeth and a molded keeper having a plurality of keeper teeth engageable with the plurality of teeth to inhibit movement of the keeper relative to the nut when the plurality of teeth engages the plurality of keeper teeth. The keeper has a radially inner side configured to engage a shaft to inhibit rotational movement of the nut relative to the shaft when the plurality of teeth engages the plurality of keeper teeth.

  • Patent number: 5460467
Abstract: A locking nut for use with a shaft having a serrated thread employs a segmented, radially expandable locking element having serrations on its internal diameter. The locking element is disposed in a counterbore of the nut and is axially movable between a first locked position and a second unlocked position. The locking element is resiliently biased toward the axis of rotation of the nut and is also resiliently radially biased axially to the locked position. The nut is unlocked by overcoming the axial resilient bias and driving the locking element segments up a radially diverging ramp provided within the nut against the resilient radial bias.

  • Patent number: 4436468
Abstract: In a ball head lock nut as a component element of bicycle head parts, a split clamping ring is received within an annular groove formed in a threaded, cylindrical internal wall of a substantially annular nut body; a deformable fixing piece, which has a diametrically extending slot formed in its inner end wall, is disposed within a radially extending threaded through hole formed in the annular nut body, with the slot engaged with a part of the split clamping ring; and a set screw is screwed into the radially extending threaded through hole to push the deformable fixing piece axially inwardly for forcible compression and deformation.
