  • Patent number: 5813809
Abstract: A threaded connection between adjoining male/female surfaces is produced by mating a plastic insert embedded in one surface with threads machined on the other surface. The plastic insert is pressed against the machined threads and deformed to provide conforming meshing threads in the insert, thereby producing a threaded engagement between the two surfaces. Preferably, the insert is sufficiently wide to overlap multiple machined threads and yield a stable, strip-resistant engagement. By providing at least three such inserts evenly distributed around the preexisting threads, an axially stable, screwable threaded connection is produced between the two surfaces that does not require precise machining or special tooling for unconventional threads. Although the inserts are preferably used in the female surface for ease of access, they can be used advantageously in equivalent fashion in the male surface of the screwable threaded connection.

The tensioning nut is threaded into firm engagement with the jam nut to prevent further threaded advance of the tensioning nut a substantial distance from the termination of the threads. A torque applied to the tensioning nut thus rotates the bolt and expands the anchor shell into gripping engagement with the bore hole wall; torque producing an axial load on the jam nut in excess of its strength causes it to fracture or strip from threaded engagement with the bolt, permitting travel of the tensioning nut.

The resin layer which covers the rear surface of the nut body includes a cap-shaped portion for accommodating the free end of a bolt which is screwed into the nut body in such a manner that the free end projects from the rear surface of the nut body, whereby water is prevented from entering the nut body.

  • Patent number: 4674257
Abstract: A fixing in a wall is made by drilling a hole, inserting the pin of a nozzle mounted on a hot melt gun into the hole and injecting molten polypropylene into the space between the pin and the hole. The polypropylene is allowed to solidify and the nozzle is removed leaving a wall plug ready for the insertion of a screw.Three embodiments of a nozzle especially adapted for use in this process are described.

  • Patent number: 4545712
Abstract: A threaded fastener having a deposit of a fluid polymerizable resin in the bottoms of the thread grooves, a fluid polymerizing agent overlying the resin in the thread grooves, and a strong non-tacky protective film covering the agent. The fluid resin and agent have therebetween a barrier film as a result of polymerization of the resin where it contacts the polymerizing agent. Preferably, the fluid resin and agent deposit includes abrasive particles, such as table salt to enhance mixing when the fastener engages a mating threaded member. In production, the protective film is applied as an aqueous solution of PVA, which is rapidly converted to the non-tacky film by the application of a desiccant powder such as a derivative of guar gum.

  • Patent number: 4347026
Abstract: A retaining means is disclosed which utilizes a resilient ring placed in an eccentric groove which partially penetrates its supporting member. The ring extends through the support member and bears against the member to be retained. Thus a constant retaining force is applied to the restrained member which allows the member to be adjusted without first removing the ring. The restraining force is sufficient to prevent unwanted movement of the restrained member when subjected to a vibrational environment.
