By Integral, Interference-producing Deviations From A Standard Thread Shape Patents (Class 411/310)
  • Patent number: 4797045
Abstract: Formation of a screw thread in a mounting hole in furniture hardware made by the stamping and pressing process from thin sheet metal, which can be fastened to the furniture wall by means of mounting screws driven through the mounting hole into a furniture wall. The shaft of the mounting screw has at its head end a threadless section with a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the thread. The mounting hole has a free passage cross section which is smaller than the outside diameter of the thread spirals of the mounting screw, and a ring-like section of the material surrounding the free passage cross section is bent to form a thread spiral extending over more than 180.degree., preferably more than 270.degree., but no more than 360.degree., with a pitch corresponding to the pitch of the mounting screw thread, a portion of the section of material forming the thread spiral being cut free from the surrounding material of the hardware piece along an arcuate boundary line.

  • Patent number: 4764067
Abstract: A self-locking screw has a longitudinal axis and comprises a thread having an inner radial portion and an outer radial portion, the inner radial portion having a pair of opposite first side faces defining a flank angle of the screw. The outer radial portion has a pair of opposite second side faces extending from the first side faces and first and second outer radial faces extending respectively from the pair of opposite second side faces. The thread has a central buffer groove having two groove side walls, the groove side walls along with the second side faces and the first and second outer radial faces defining two axial spaced elastically deformable thread portions which are elastically deformable such that as the thread is threaded onto a counterpart threaded member, the elastically deformable thread portions are engaged by the counterpart threaded member to cause elastic deformation as the thread portions axially approach one another and reduce the spacing between the thread portions.

  • Patent number: 4762450
Abstract: A molded plastic one-piece hollow expansion nut comprises an outwardly expandable shank which is insertable through a panel hole and a head at one end of the shank for engaging the panel surface. A screw-receiving bore extends axially through the nut and receives the threaded shank of a screw whose screw head bears against the nut head. The portion of the bore along which shank wall expansion occurs is cylindrical and of slightly larger diameter than the screw thread. The inmost end of the bore is of oblong cross-section and its minor axis is shorter than the diameter of the screw thread. A single screw-engaging thread in the cylindrical bore initially holds and guides the screw. The shank walls opposite the ends of the minor axis have oblique screw-thread receiving slots therethrough which define very sturdy damage resistant nut threads which engage the screw thread.

  • Patent number: 4674931
Abstract: A fastener for securing primary and secondary panels together comprises a molded plastic one-piece U-nut and a molded plastic screw. The nut comprises two plates, each having a plate hole therethrough, which face each other with their plate holes in registry and which are integrally and resiliently interconnected along one edge in spaced apart relationship. One plate supports on its outer side an integrally formed nut shank having an internally threaded bore in registry with the plate holes. The other plate supports on its innerside an integrally formed annular shaped sloped lock tab which surrounds its associated plate hole and holds the nut in place on the primary panel. The bore thread is formed in discrete thread sections and locking teeth are formed on the undersides of the bore thread sections. The screw comprises a threaded screw shank having a screw head at one end. The screw thread has locking teeth formed on the upper side thereof at intervals therealong.

  • Patent number: 4273175
Abstract: An improved thread convolution cooperates with a mating thread convolution to prevent reverse rotation between the thread convolutions in a direction tending to loosen a fastener. In order to prevent reverse rotation between the two thread convolutions while enabling them to be rotated in a forward direction to tighten the fastener, the improved thread convolution has a resiliently deflectable spring portion which forms part of a flank of the thread convolution. During relative rotation between the two thread convolutions in a direction tending to tighten the fastener, the spring portion is deflected from an extended position to a retracted position under the influence of a flank of the mating thread convolution. This enables relative rotation to occur between the two thread convolutions without gouging or excessive scratching of the flank of either of the two thread convolutions.
