Patent number: 7722304Abstract: A thread locking fastener assembly comprising a nut anchor defining an internal thread having a longitudinal axis, a leading face and a trailing face, the internal thread, in axial section, having a profile which is symmetric about a first imaginary line extending radially out from the axis, and a fastener shank having an external thread with a longitudinal axis, a leading face and trailing face, the external thread being received in said internal thread so that said axes are substantially coincident. The external thread, in axial section, has a profile with a radially inner base zone which is symmetric about a second imaginary line extending radially from the shank axis and a radially outer deflectable addendum which is not symmetric about that line so that the addendum prevents axial centralization of the external thread profile in the internal thread profile unless a sufficient axial force is applied to the shank to deflect the addendum.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2008Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Research Engineering & Manufacturing Inc.Inventor: Alan Pritchard

Patent number: 6120865Abstract: An inner barrel includes a male helicoid, and an outer barrel includes a female helicoid which can engage with the male helicoid of the inner barrel. The included angle of trapezoidal threads of the male helicoid are identical to an included angle of trapezoidal grooves of the female helicoid in a section perpendicular to a direction of an extension of the threads.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1998Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Asahi Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroshi Nomura, Kazuyoshi Azegami, Takamitsu Sasaki

Patent number: 5385360Abstract: Locking the headset of a steering post of a bicycle is accomplished by this invention where the steering post or threaded body projects coaxially through a cylindrical journal mounted at the front end of the bicycle frame. Bearing cups are secured in each end of the journal to accommodate thrust bearings. Each thrust bearing in turn is engaged by a cone. The lower cone is mounted stationary on the fork-steering post of the bicycle while the upper cone is threaded engaged to the mounting post body and is drawn hand tight against the upper thrust bearing. The upper cone is locked against rotational movement by a lock nut threaded on the post body above the upper cone and spaced from the upper cone. The locking configuration is achieved by one or more screws extending through an opening in the lock nut and engaging the upper cone to jam the threaded connections between the lock nut, upper cone and steering post body.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1993Date of Patent: January 31, 1995Assignee: Thurston, Inc.Inventor: William B. Patent number: 5252015Abstract: An adjustable pre-load screw and nut assembly is described including a screw with external helical threads and a nut having two separate portions each with internal threads complementary to those on the screw. An adjustment nut and adjacent O-ring can be turned an amount sufficient to interengage the nut portions to urge them apart and thus establish contact with opposing surfaces of the screw threads to effect pre-loaded contact therewith to eliminate backlash when the screw is turned in either direction.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1991Date of Patent: October 12, 1993Inventor: Walter S. Patent number: 4690600Abstract: The threaded connection is formed between a tapped component and an externally threaded two part bolt. The two bolt parts are each provided with an external thread of the same pitch and hand in order to be threaded simultaneously into the tapped component. One bolt part is also provided with an extension which is threaded into the other bolt part via a screw thread which has an opposite hand or pitch to the external screw threads. When the two bolt part are threaded into the tapped component, the screw threaded extension prevents unthreading of one bolt part relative to the other.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1986Date of Patent: September 1, 1987Assignee: Sulzer Brothers LimitedInventor: Fredy Lauer

Patent number: 4405180Abstract: A wheel hub for a two-wheeled vehicle, such as a bicycle, includes a quick clamping device for securing the hub axle in the fork of a bicycle frame. The device includes a clamping unit at each end of the hub axle. Each clamping unit contains an adjusting nut screwed onto one end of the axle, a thrust ring inboard of the nut, and a pivotally movable clamping member with eccentric cams positioned between facing surfaces on the nut and thrust ring. By pivoting the clamping member the position of the cams is changed for displacing the clamping device from the release position to the locking position where the hub axle can be tightly clamped in the fork without any special shaping of the axle.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1982Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Fichtel & Sachs AGInventor: Hans Butz

Patent number: 4305113Abstract: A rotor for an adjustable low loss capacitor having a hollow cylindrical stator with an internally threaded bushing at one end, an axially adjoining insulative cylindrical body, a conductive end member and concentric radially spaced conductive tubes inside said insulative cylindrical body, comprises a rotatable cylindrical screw body having externally threaded portions for engaging internal threading of the bushing. The threaded portions are axially separated by an unthreaded intermediate portion of reduced diameter formed with three slots whose inner edges define an equilateral triangle axially of the screw body. The slots define three resilient springy webs each extending 120.degree. circumferentially of the screw body. Corners of each web are disposed in registration with the other two webs axially of the screw body. The intermediate portion is deformed slightly to misalign the two threaded portions of the screw body.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1980Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Inventor: Aviv B. Shai

Patent number: 4252167Abstract: The device comprises in combination a screwthreaded block and a screw which are hollow and have screwthreads of opposite direction. These screwthreads cooperate with screwthreads of respectively corresponding direction formed in the inner wall of the tapped hole. There are provided means for stopping the block, and means for preventing rotation between the block and the screw.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1978Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Assignee: Shur-Lok International S.A.Inventor: Alexis Dessouroux
