And Discrete Manual Actuating Means Patents (Class 411/344)
  • Patent number: 5007223
Abstract: Method of blind anchoring for mounting on plasterboard or other dry wall panels having inaccessable backs, fixtures attachable by screws or bolts, the assembly having as a blind anchor member a strong stiff elongated machinable plate, as a puller a flexible string or cord passed through a central drilling in and knotted beyond the back of the plate, and a self-sticking adhesive coating on the front of the plate. Using a flange of the fixture as a marking template, an opening, within the perimeters of the flange and any screw holes therein, is cut through the wall. Sized to fit, the anchor plate with the string attached is inserted through the wall opening and after positioning manually by fingers extended through the opening, is pulled by the string against the inside of the wall. With the plate then held in position by the adhesive and the tensile force on the string, holes are drilled in the marked positions through the anchor plate for receiving the attaching screws.

  • Patent number: 4971502
Abstract: A fastening bolt set is disclosed which is used for attaching an object to a structure, and which comprises an ordinary bolt with a hexagonal or circular head, an internal washer having a long shape and having an annular projection, an external washer having an annular projection, and an ordinary nut for final tightening, all of the above components being connected by a string. This device is used where the back side of the structure is unreachable by hand or by means of a tool, and the working method is such that the bolt and the internal washer are sequentially inserted through the fastening hole, and the string connected to the bolt and the washer is pulled out of the fastening hole. Then the head of the bolt and the internal washer are combined together, the body of the bolt is passed through the fastening hole, and the head of the bolt and the internal washer are halted at the back side of the fastening hole.

  • Patent number: 4971283
Abstract: A wedge device particularly suitable for use in mounting a swimming pool light in a niche formed in a wall of the pool has a wedge member and a drive member for use in driving the wedge member between the side of the light and the wall of the niche. The drive member is pivotally mounted on the wedge member for limited slidable freedom of motion laterally as well as rotatable motion by means of a pair of trunnions which extend therefrom and fit into cylindrical sleeve bearings formed in the wedge member. A screw member threadably engages the drive member and is inserted through an aperture in the mounting ring for the light. When the screw is tightened against the mounting ring, it draws the wedge member against a side of the light and the wall of niche thereby wedging the light in place. The drive member can be rotated ninety degrees on its trunnions to change the size of the wedge provided by the wedge member thus enabling its use under different installation requirements.

  • Patent number: 4883398
Abstract: In an installation method according to the invention, one pulls the wings of a toggle bolt into contact with the inner surface of a wall continuously during tightening of the bolt, this being in contrast with previous practice where the finger nails eventually must be removed, and thus the pulling action eliminated, in order to prevent locking of the fingernails between the wall and bolt head. An apparatus according to the invention comprises means for exerting a pull on the bolt of a toggle bolt, for maintaining the contact of the wings with the inner surface of a wall until the bolt has been tightened. The invention also provides a special manufacturing method for a particular apparatus of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4878790
Abstract: An expansible plastic fastener comprising a generally elongated body portion, a collar member, and locking means comprising a pair of reinforced toggle arms. The body portion has a generally central opening for reception of an elongated retaining element. The reinforcement provides cooperative resilient interaction with the toggle arms to assist movements toward their collapsed and expanded portions while simultaneously contributing to their holding strength. The fastener can also include a Y-shaped reinforcing portion pivotally connected to the locking means of the body portion by flexible connector means. This Y-shaped portion may include means for engaging an elongated retaining element in the form of a threaded member. Also, a fastening kit comprising a fastener of the invention along with a key for expanding the locking means to its optimum expanded position or a fastener of the invention with an elongated retaining element.

  • Patent number: 4840527
Abstract: An expansion dowel assembly includes a sleeve-like support bearing incorporating load engagement surfaces, and annular disks displaceably held on the support bearing by a tension member for displacement between a radially inwardly displaced position and a radially outwardly displaced position. The annular disks are formed of a spring-like material. The tension member clamps the disks in the radially inwardly displaced position in the form of a hollow cone. When the clamping force on the disks is removed, because of their spring-like characteristic, they move into the radially outwardly displaced position flattened out from the hollow cone configuration. A load can be applied to the support bearing at the load engagement surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4809477
Abstract: A fastener assembly for connecting lightweight roofing structure laminations is shown. The assembly comprises a toggle bolt with an unremovable toggle nut on the lower end of the toggle bolt stem, securing the lower surface of the lamination, and a flanged cap nut threaded on the toggle stem's upper end which secures the lamination's upper surface. The flange cap nut is fitted with a recess complementary to, and adapted to receive a keeper nut fitted with a recess which allows torquing of the flanged cap nut. The keeper nut is also adapted to connect with the top end of the toggle bolt stem in a way, that locks the flanged cap nut and toggle stem together so that the same are incapable of independent rotation, thus preventing the loosening of the fastener assembly.

  • Patent number: 4728068
Abstract: Removable anchors provide for the stabilization and securing of perforated panel hangers, on a semi-permanent basis, through the use of a formed semi-rigid anchor member inserted into one or more apertures of a perforated support panel, embracing at least a portion of the body or shank of at least one hanger and includes at least one end portion designed with one or more deformable barbs to which pull tab members are attached. After being inserted through the aperture of the perforated panel, without special tools, anchor barbs return to original shape locking behind the panel, the pull tab member extending through panel aperture to remain in front of perforated panel. When hanger removal is desired, pull tab elements attached to the anchor barbs are pulled and latched from the front of the perforated panel, causing the compacting of the anchor barb portions, they fold against the anchor body allowing anchor to exit through the panel perforation.

  • Patent number: 4644617
Abstract: A releasable locking device comprises a tubular housing (180) having a pair of rotary pawls (182) mounted therein. The angular position of the pawls are controlled by spring-loaded balls (183). A line (179) passing through the housing has a collar (184) thereon which latches with the pawls when the collar is brought into engagement therewith, the pawls being rotated so that the balls then bear on adjoining surfaces of the pawls. When the line is subsequently slackened the balls (183) act on the pawls to rotate them further into the housing so that on subsequent engagement by the collar (184), they are free to rotate so as to allow the collar to pass through the housing. This system provides an automatic latching of the line (179) followed by automatic disengagement of the latch simply by releasing tension in the line followed by reapplying such tension. Therefore latching and unlatching can be effected simply from a position remote from the latching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4630956
Abstract: Improved apparatus is provided for temporarily securing together scaffolding members. A slotted stud fixed to a scaffolding support member is provided with a pivotal dog rotatable within the slot for receiving the hole punched end of a cross member. A spring and washer having a transverse bar member within the slot are permanently retained on the stud to prevent misuse of the device. Rotation of the dog to receive the cross member causes axial movement to the washer and compression of the spring. Further compression of the spring by the cross member allows the dog to return to its lock position by gravity. The spring, washer, and dog thus cooperate to either expel the cross member from the device or lock the cross member in place, which substantially increases scaffolding safety.
