Dovetail Patents (Class 411/406)
  • Patent number: 10495133
Abstract: A fastener system includes a bolt and a retainer. The bolt has a first end and an opposing second end, wherein a recess having a predetermined shape is defined in the first end of the bolt. The retainer includes a first end having a predetermined shape configured to be inserted within the recess in the first end of the bolt and a second end configured to couple about the second end of the bolt. A method of fastening parts together with the fastener system includes inserting the first end of the retainer into the recess of the bolt, deflecting and/or rotating the retainer in a direction to bring the second end of the retainer into proximity with the second end of the bolt, and securing a nut to the bolt.

  • Patent number: 9086085
Abstract: A fastening system includes a fastener having a head portion and a shaft portion, wherein the head portion has a recess (e.g., a removal tool recess), and an insert (e.g., a plastic insert) having an insert shape substantially equal to the recess shape and an insert thickness substantially equal to or less than the recess depth, wherein the insert is configured to removeably seat within the recess of the head portion. • Publication number: 20150104271
Abstract: Punch pins which have further extending lobes, and which are designed to punch sockets that have deeper flutes while not having lobes which extend further toward a center axis of the fastener. Using such a punch pin to form a socket in a fastener provides that the resulting socket has flutes which are deeper than they otherwise would be, without having to provide corresponding lobes which extend further toward the center axis of the socket. This extra deepness in the flutes helps to provide extra room for a coating to deposit.

  • Publication number: 20150063948
Abstract: A fastener comprising a fastener body and a fastener head is disclosed. The fastener body has a threaded portion and defines a longitudinal axis. The fastener head is arranged at one end of the fastener body, and comprises a tool engaging portion. The tool engaging portion comprises a plurality of alternating lobes and flutes forming a multilobular surface pattern, each lobe having a driven surface arranged to engage with a driving surface of a tool, and a trailing surface arranged opposite to the driven surface. The driven surface and the trailing surface extend substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis defined by the fastener body. The trailing surface of at least one lobe is provided with a modified zone in which a diameter of the lobe is increased, said modified zone providing a wedging effect between the tool engaging portion and a tool. In the fastener of the invention wobble between the fastener and a tool is significantly reduced.

  • Patent number: 7901413
Abstract: A surgical screw and driver arrangement whereby the end of the driver is vertically inserted and removed from the slotted end of the surgical screw and whereby the end of the driver is attached to and removed from the slotted end of the surgical screw by a quarter turn in the clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The driver includes an inner shaft connecting with a center locking cam at one end of the driver and an outer shaft that connects with a pair of blades, one on each side of the locking cam. The surgical screw includes a slotted head at one end and a tapered threaded rod attached to the head. A pair of dovetail slots extending perpendicular within the slotted head receives the locking cam when the driver inner shaft is rotated a quarter turn clockwise to fasten the surgical screw to the end of the driver.

  • Patent number: 4311071
Abstract: A screw driver has a handle, shaft and blade with the bottom edge of the blade being flat and having flat sides which incline inwardly from the bottom edge. To turn the screw, the screw driver is placed with its bottom edge in the gap between protruding (raised) quadrant sectors of the screw head and turned 45.degree.. The flat inwardly inclined sides of the screw driver act against cut-back flat sides of the protruding sectors to cam the screw driver toward the screw head and rotate the screw.

  • Patent number: 4258606
Abstract: A screw adapted to be driven by an ordinary straight-bladed screwdriver, the head of the screw having a cylindrical socket formed in the top surface of the head thereof coaxially with the screw shank adapted to receive the driver blade therein, the wall of the socket preventing lateral slippage of the driver blade from the socket and permitting turning of the blade, portions of the wall being offset resiliently inwardly to inhibit turning of the blade, and so configurated that a partial turn of the blade causes it to be gripped between portions of the offset wall to hold the screw releasably on the blade, so that the screw may be inserted in positions of difficult access, to resist rotation of the blade, more strongly after a further partial turn of the blade, whereby the screw may be driven by the blade with a suitable torque, and to yield completely on the application of a still greater torque, whereby to limit the maximum torque applicable to the screw by the screw driver.
