Abstract: A multi-component structure includes a first hybrid metal composite structure, a second hybrid metal composite structure, and a joint structure. The first and second hybrid metal composite structures include layers, each layer comprising a fiber composite material structure including a fiber material dispersed within a matrix material and at least one metal ply located between layers of the layers. The method includes obtaining a foil covered screw by wrapping a foil around an externally threaded section of an outer surface of a screw, placing the foil between an internally threaded section of an inner surface of a nut and the externally threaded section of the outer surface of the screw by screwing the foil covered screw into the nut, and grinding the foil between the internally threaded section of the inner surface of the nut and the externally threaded section of the outer surface of the screw by vibrating one of the nut and the foil covered screw along a first axis. The system includes a foil covered screw, a nut with an internally threaded section, and an ultrasound transducer. The nut and the screw are configured to grind the foil between the internally threaded section of the nut and the externally threaded section of the screw responsive to one of the nut and the screw vibrating along the first axis.
Abstract: A wheel includes a spoke having a mounting hole that extends in a radial direction, and a blind hole that extends in an axial direction and that is in spatial communication with the mounting hole. The wheel includes a rim having a second through hole that is aligned with the mounting hole. The wheel further includes a connecting unit connecting the spoke with the rim. The connecting unit includes a rod extending through the through hole into the mounting hole and having an engaging hole that is aligned with the blind hole. The connecting unit further includes a fastener extending through the blind hole into the engaging hole and engaging with the engaging hole.

Abstract: A self-tapping screw for use in securing at least two materials together. The self-tapping screw may include a screw cap that receives a screw body to reinforce the strength of the screw head. The screw cap is composed of a zinc-aluminum alloy that may be die casted and provides additional strength and hardness to the attached screw body. The screw cap has a rolled flange that helps to securely retain the flat rim of the attached screw body.
Abstract: A method of shaping a bone screw with an automated device having a CNC unit includes rotating a blank coupled to a spindle about an axis defined by a coordinate system of the CNC unit, advancing a cutting tool proximally through an exterior of the blank at a speed to form a helical thread along a shaft, and reducing the speed to provide a variable, proximally decreasing pitch along at least a portion of the shaft. A first cutting tool is automatically transitioned toward disengagement from the blank when 1) a relative axial position between the first cutting tool and the blank coincides with a first coordinate of a predetermined location, and 2) a relative rotational position between the first cutting tool and the blank coincides with a second coordinate of the predetermined location. The first coordinate is along the axis, the second coordinate is an angular position about the axis, and the first and second coordinates are defined by the coordinate system.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a degradable corrosion-resistant high strength and ductility magnesium alloy for biomedical use and the preparation method therefor. With regard to a total weight of the magnesium alloy of 100%, the composition of components of the magnesium alloy comprises: 1.0 to 4.5% of Nd, 0.2 to 2.0% of Zn, 0 to 1.0% of Ca, 0 to 1.0% of Zr, and balance of Mg. The magnesium alloy is prepared by producing a magnesium alloy ingot by means of vacuum semi-continuous casting and according to the components and weight percentage thereof followed by solid solution treatment and extrusion. The degradable corrosion-resistant high strength and ductility magnesium alloy for biomedical use provided by the present disclosure has the advantages of being non-toxic and fully degradable, good corrosion resistance as well as high strength and ductility etc., and can be used for preparing a vascular stent.

Abstract: A dynamic bone plate and method of bone compression are disclosed. The dynamic bone plate comprises a first bone plate component including at least one hole for receiving screws for attachment to a first bone segment and a male component and a second bone plate component including at least one hole for receiving screws for attachment to a second bone segment and a female component for mating with the male component. The male component is adjustable after mating with the female component to adjust a position of the first bone plate component with respect to the second bone plate component and the male component is locked into place with respect to the female component by at least one screw inserted through the at least one hole of the second bone plate component causing compression between the first and second bone segments to form a corrective construct.

Abstract: A rivet bolt in combination with an attachment wherein the rivet bolt includes: a flange having a top surface and a bottom surface, and, a shaft having a threaded portion. An upper cylindrical portion of the rivet bolt includes an upper edge and an interior base surface having a drive head socket. The attachment receives the rivet bolt and comprises: a top surface, a bottom surface, a cylindrical bore therethrough, and an inverted frusto-conical surface extending from the top surface to the cylindrical bore. The upper cylindrical portion of the rivet bolt is deformed and rotatably and slidingly engages the inverted frusto-conical surface extending from the top surface of the attachment to the cylindrical bore therethrough. The upper cylindrical portion of the rivet bolt resides partially within the cylindrical bore. A process for making a rivet bolt in combination with an attachment is disclosed.

Abstract: There is provided a resin composition for a machinable liner of a sliding member. An ultraviolet curable resin composition for a self-lubricating liner contains a (meth)acrylate compound having an isocyanuric acid ring represented by the following formula and PTFE as a solid lubricant. In the formula (1), X is a group which contains an acryloyl group and is composed only of C, H, and O. Y and Z are groups each composed only of C, H, and O. PTFE is contained in an amount of 10 to 50% by weight with respect to a total amount of the ultraviolet curable resin composition. The ultraviolet curable resin composition is suitable for a self-lubricating liner 24 of a spherical bearing 20 having an outer race 22 and an inner race 26.

Abstract: A vehicle includes a spare wheel, a jack and a jack wrench. The jack and a jack wrench are provided to raise the vehicle to allow a user to remove a damaged wheel and replace it with the spare wheel. The jack and jack wrench are secured to the vehicle via a first connector. The spare wheel is then secured to the first connector via a second connector. The second connector extends through the spare wheel and into the first connector to secure the spare wheel to the first connector and thus to the vehicle.

Abstract: Provided are a coating agent capable of forming, on the periphery of a tapping screw, a coating layer which can hold female-thread-forming chips generated during screwing of the tapping screw into a prepared hole of a workpiece, thereby preventing scattering of the female-thread-forming chips; and a tapping screw having thereon a coating layer formed from the coating agent. The coating agent is a composition containing, as primary components, calcium montanate or a calcium-montanate-containing montanic acid species mixture, a thermoplastic resin emulsion, and water. The coating agent can form, on the periphery of a tapping screw, a coating layer which exhibits a lubricating function, and a function of capturing female-thread-forming chips.

Abstract: An assembly including a plurality of parts fastened together with a flow drill screw. An indentation is formed on one side of a first part and a second part is assembled into engagement with the side of the first part with the indentation facing the second part. The flow drill screw is inserted through the indentation and material is displaced from the part into the indentation. Two or more panels or parts may be joined by aligning a flow drill screw with the indentations that are formed by embossing one or more panels.
Abstract: There are disclosed various embodiments of surgical tacks for use in surgical procedures. The tacks generally include a head and a barrel portion extending distally from the head. Preferably, the head and the barrel portion define a throughbore for receipt of a drive instrument. A thread on the head is provided to engage threads in the installation tool. A tissue thread is provided on the barrel portion to engage tissue. Distal and proximal surfaces of the tissue thread may be oriented at various angles relative to the barrel portion. There is also disclosed an insertion instrument to insert one or more tacks as well as a method of use. There is further disclosed a model device for use in explaining the operation of the instrument.
Abstract: An anchor for securing a threaded rod to a concrete structural element has a generally tapered conical or spherical body element configured to be seated within the concrete structural element. The anchor further includes a threaded bore extending through the body element. The threaded bore engages the threads of the rod in order to secure the rod to the concrete structural element. The body element has a generally planar top face having a top face diameter, as well as a generally planar bottom face having a bottom face diameter. Formed between the top face and the bottom face is a side wall such that the body element is formed with a taper. The taper is inserted into a complementary recess formed within the concrete structural element.

Abstract: A steel wire for high-strength bolts is used for a non heat-treatment bolt with an excellent cold forgeability for which quenching and tempering steps have been omitted after bolt formation, and which has a tensile strength of 1200 MPa or more and an excellent delayed fracture resistance. The steel wire includes C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Al, N, and B, at least one selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, and Nb with the balance consisting of iron and inevitable impurities. The steel wire has a microstructure wherein ferrite and perlite have a total area rate of 98% or more, perlite lamellar spacing is 250 nm or less, and an area rate of the perlite is more than 40%, and 80% or less. The steel wire has a tensile strength of 1300 MPa or less.

Abstract: A fixing assembly for use on an object which is to be attached to or detachable from another object includes a main body defining a through hole, a fixing member mounted to the through hole, and two limiting members secured to the main body and arranged at opposite sides of the through hole. When the fixing member is mounted to the through hole, the limiting members limit and hold captive the fixing member to prevent from falling off or displacement of the fixing member when not being used for attachment purposes. Abstract: Described in this application is a dual purpose hanger fastener for supporting a fixture, such as a pipe fixture, or the like to a building structure. The hanger fastener includes a threaded shank forming a first end portion and a head forming a second end portion where the head has both a cross-thread opening and an axial opening. The threaded shank is adapted to engage the structure and the head is adapted to receive a support member to support a pipe fixture or the like. For supporting the fixture, the head includes a cross-thread opening and an axial opening with the axial opening extending into the head to not less than one-thirty-second inch from the cross-thread opening. Both of the cross-thread and axial openings of the head of the hanger fastener are adapted to receive and engage the support member to support the pipe fixture or the like at the users option.

Abstract: A ceramic matrix composite (CMC) and metal attachment configuration is provided. The CMC and metal attachment may include a metal plate, a CMC plate, a spacer, a metal bolt and a nut. Spacer may be adjacent to CMC, and spacer may include spacer aperture aligned with metal plate and CMC apertures. Metal bolt may have first and second ends, second end may be operable to fit into aligned spacer, CMC plate, and metal apertures, to attach spacer, CMC plate and metal plate. Nut may be adjacent to metal plate and may be operable to receive second end of bolt. Spacer may allow metal plate, having a high coefficient of thermal expansion, to be attached to CMC plate, having a low coefficient of thermal expansion.
