Abstract: Systems and methods for mechanically coupling multiple components using captured threaded connectors are provided. The attachment points between components are aligned along a common central axis about which the channels are aligned. Threaded connectors are provided and contained within a pocket within each component, prior to assembly of the system. As a result, components of the system can be detached without disassembly of other components, or without the use of special thread patterns to allow clearance for the driver for the head of each. Threaded connectors are kept from falling out and are also allowed to float along their axis within the channel so that components can be aligned first, and then anchored together. Drivers used to couple components have a diameter smaller than the channel.

Abstract: A low profile standoff with tool stop is disclosed for attaching surfaces in fixed proximity to each other. The low profile standoff with tool stop includes a main body having a threaded bore, a threaded stem for threading a nut, and an intermediate section of narrower cross section than the main body that admits a portion of the threaded bore. The intermediate section extends within the thickness of the mounting surface while the main body stays on one side and the threaded stem extends wholly through to the opposite side of the surface. Some embodiments further comprise a tool stop on the exterior of the main body. Other embodiments dispense with the threaded stem. The low profile standoff with tool stop is particularly useful for overcoming the strength disadvantages of reduced height standoffs known in the art, and of minimizing tool head damage to the mounting surface.

Abstract: A bolt (10) includes a flange (14) that bulges radially out near a head (12) at one axial end. The flange (14) contacts a second connector (60) at a proper connection to prevent further tightening. A stepped recess (16) is located between the head (12) and a screw portion (13), and is recessed sufficiently to fracture when an excessive tightening torque is applied. A retaining groove (18) is located between the stepped recess (16) and the screw portion (13) and is recessed radially inwardly and receives a retaining ring (80) for preventing detachment of the bolt (10) from a first connector (40) by contacting the first connector (40) before connection. Seal grooves (15) are located between the stepped recess (16) and the flange (14) for receiving seals (30) to be held in close contact with the first connector (40) in a liquid-tight manner at the time of proper connection.
