Having Driver Retaining Means Patents (Class 411/407)
  • Patent number: 4538486
Abstract: A non-slip screw of the type having a threaded shank and a slotted head, including a locking surface defined in the screw head by a central transverse slot which extends across the top of the head for engagement with a screwdriver blade tip. The locking surface includes a pair of radially outwardly extending inclined walls extending downwardly from each end of the transverse slot. An especial screwdriver having its exterior blade tip configured complementally with the pairs of radially outwardly extending inclined walls is engageable with the locking surface, so as to rotate the screw head in either direction. The screw head is characterized by its positive grip with the screwdriver blade tip, notwithstanding actual screwdriving or unscrewing and removal of the screw.

  • Patent number: 4526071
Abstract: A tool in the nature of a screwdriver engageable with the end of a screw or other type of fastener, the implement and fastener being so arranged that, when engaged for use the hazard of inadvertent disengagement is reliably precluded.

  • Patent number: 4497225
Abstract: An improved high torque fastener is provided of the type having a screw head with a generally bow-tie shaped driving slot formed with undercut side walls and an arcuately concave bottom wall for reception of an arcuately convex blade of a driving tool for relatively high torque transfer therebetween. The improved fastener includes a conical recess positioned centrally along the driving slot with a base diameter substantially greater than the width of the slot thereat and an apex disposed substantially below the slot bottom wall. The improved driving tool includes a conical tip formed centrally on an arcuately convex blade with a substantially pointed end projecting beyond the blade, wherein the blade and tip provide geometric surfaces for facilitated and aligned centering and coaxial mating reception into the fastener driving slot and conical recess. Apparatus for forming the improved fastener is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4373842
Abstract: A plastic-headed fastener assembly has a first outer and a second inner sealing flange. The second flange performs the secondary function of engaging the upper panel of two a member assembly which tends to climb the threads and holding it away from the head. The threads on the fastener can then strip out the hole in this upper panel so that it may return to its position adjacent the second member. This flange prevents damage to the plastic head which can result from friction generated heat.

  • Patent number: 4355552
Abstract: A modified Phillips-type cruciform recess in a screw or the like, which provides a cling-fit with a driver by causing deflection of the flutes of the driver against the walls of the slot in the recess, comprises a central socket portion and radially extending slots adapted to receive the flutes of a suitable driving tool. Each slot is defined in part by a bottom surface of substantially uniform width which slopes radially inwardly and downwardly along the axis of the screw. The bottom surface joins two opposing surfaces which form the walls of the slot. The pairs of opposite slots in the cruciform pattern are not symmetrically located relative to a plane including the longitudinal axis of the screw, but are offset laterally in opposite directions with respect to such a plane. On insertion of a standard driver into the recess, the flutes of the driver are caused to flex into frictional engagement with the walls of the slots, thereby achieving the desired cling-fit.
