  • Patent number: 7670092
Abstract: A laminated nut having a plurality of conical spring discs for use with a bolt assembly. Each of the discs is formed with a hex shaped outer periphery and a non-round central bore. The discs are assembled on top of each other forming a laminated stack. A threaded tension sleeve is located in the central bore and has a non-round outer periphery shape corresponding to the shape of the central bore of the discs. The tension sleeve has a threaded inner peripheral wall with the threads sized to fit the bolt assembly. The tension sleeve includes an upper flange to engage and hold the upper portion of the laminated stack and a lower flange to support the laminated stack. Application of a torqueing force to the outer, hex shaped periphery of the discs forces them to deflect and contact the threaded tension sleeve applying force along the length of the bolt assembly in a uniform manner to reduce clearance between the bolt threads and the threads on the nut tension sleeve.

Abstract: The invention relates to a connection element, in particular a plate nut, comprising a base body for attachment of an arbitrary component to a metallic planar object, in particular to a sheet metal. According to the invention, the base body comprises a securement portion the cross-sectional geometry of which deviates from a circular shape, the securement portion being at least partially positively receivable in a deformation in the sheet metal. The base body is, by means of a holding device, secured in the deformation against dropping out. In an alternative embodiment of the connection element, wherein unilateral accessibility to the sheet metal is sufficient, the holding device is formed by bead portions in a shaft area of the base body, which are plastically deformed into a bead by pull-out of a threaded bolt that is screwed into a thread portion.

Abstract: A fixing clamp for anchoring a component within a hole in a support plate includes an anchoring part having two side walls and a transverse wall, a generally planar locating strip projecting outwardly, an expanding tab projecting upwardly that defines a window in the side wall, and an inwardly bent edge strip on an end of the expanding tab. The fixing clamp also includes a movable threaded plate initially supported by the edge strip. The fixing clamp further includes a holding plate for the component and a fixing screw, and the fixing screw is threaded onto the threaded casing of the threaded plate, such that tightening of the fixing screw displaces the threaded plate downwardly along a longitudinal axis of the threaded portion of the fixing screw while deforming the expanding tabs outwardly until the expanding tabs are clampingly engaged with the support plate.

Abstract: A join structure comprises a box section column and spit T-section joined by a high strength bolt and a method secures a nut to an inside of the box section column. A Torque-Shear type high strength bolt is tightly tightened by a controlled tension and a joining method of a steel member uses that bolt. The join structure is comprised of a box section column, a split T-section attached to its outer surface, and a high strength bolt inserted from the outside of the split T-section and fastened with the nut. The nut is secured to the box section column by joining a sleeve secured to a washer formed integrally with the nut and a sleeve of a nut holding part from the outside of the column. The Torque-Shear type high strength bolt has a pintail for controlling the torque at its top.

  • Patent number: 7168902
Abstract: A locking device for a threaded fastener comprises a pair of washers each having a plurality of wedge cam sets that include a base-cam and a raised tooth-cam. When the washers are mated together in use, the wedge cam sets of each washer are placed into confronting engagement with those of the other washer, with the raised tooth-cams of each washer engaging the base-cams of the other washer. The base-cam surfaces are ramped so that, as the tooth-cams slide along them during relative rotational movement, the combined axial height of the two washers changes—decreasing during tightening and increasing during loosening so that unintended partial loosening of the fastener is offset by expansion of the washers to thereby maintain bolt tension. Raised shoulders at each end of the tooth-cams are used to inhibit the amount of relative rotational movement of the two washers in both directions.

  • Patent number: 7147418
Abstract: A cage nut assembly has a nut and a cage. The cage has a base having an aperture therethrough and a pair of flexible arm portions which are capable of supporting the nut off of the base. The cage nut assembly is welded to a workpiece. The workpiece is sent through an e-coat or ELPO bath. As the flexible arm portions of the cage support the nut off of the base, the possibility of the nut being stuck to the cage is reduced. A fastener is inserted through an aperture of the workpiece, through the aperture of the base and is threadedly engaged with the nut. As the fastener is torqued down, a force is applied to the nut such that the arm portions of the cage flex and allow the nut to come into contact and be secured against the base.
