  • Patent number: 5673925
Abstract: An improved quick release skewer system consisting of a connecting rod with a cam-actuated cap on one end and an expandable retaining nut on the other end. The device is specifically designed for application in mounting quick-release-skewer-hub bicycle wheels on bicycle forks having safety flanges which are intended to prevent the wheel from falling off the fork if the cam-actuated cap is accidentally loosened. Prior to the invention, to remove the wheel from the fork, the retaining nut had to be unscrewed. With the invention, once the cam-actuated cap is loosened, the expandable retaining nut is collapsed to further loosen compression forces on the bicycle fork and permit the wheel to be removed from the fork without unscrewing the nut. The expandable retaining nut prevents mishap in the event the operator fails to screw the nut back to its original position.

Abstract: The self-locking quick disengagement nut has a bore therethrough which clears the threads of a thrust screw. On another axis, intersecting the clearance axis, a threaded bore has thrust screw-engaging threads. The nut is formed of two parts, lying substantially in opposite sides of the plane through the axes. The pivot pin lies closer to the threaded shaft axis than the major diameter of the threaded shaft so that the thrust screw urges the nut toward thread engagement without applying excessive bending to the thrust screw.

  • Patent number: 5553825
Abstract: A novel mechanical camper jack for mounting on a camper body is disclosed. The jack has an outer jack housing, which mounts to the camper body, and is slidably telescoped over a jack leg. Extension and retraction of the camper jack leg is accomplished with rotation of a lead screw that is threaded through a plastic nut mounted within the jack leg. Rotation of the lead screw is effected by the operation of a right-angled gear assembly, disposed within the jack housing. The gear assembly is operated with a hand crank, which is detachably mounted to the jack via a socket assembly. In one embodiment, the hand crank is provided with a ratchet and paul mechanism. The socket is implemented so that the coupling between the hand crank and the gear assembly occurs completely within the jack housing. In this way, the socket extends through the wall of the jack housing in a manner so as to be substantially flush with the exterior surface of the jack housing.

  • Patent number: 5545230
Abstract: An adapter assembly which is particularly advantageous in allowing for adjusting and positioning of prosthetic devices which are attached to a stump or stump socket. The adapter is particularly advantageous for orienting and positioning of a Symes prosthesis, due to the small space requirements. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, an interface member is attached to a stump socket, with a nut movably disposed inside of a cavity of the interface member. The nut includes an aperture extending therethrough, and receives a hollow laminating bolt which clamps the prosthesis and adapter assembly in place to allow the user to test the prosthesis. If adjustments are needed, the hollow bolt can be loosened, and adjustments performed via the movably disposed nut. Once a desired position is achieved, a resin is injected through the laminating bolt and into the cavity of the interface. After the resin has hardened or cured, the hollow laminating bolt is replaced with a solid bolt.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for joining structural units. A structural unit, such as a precast concrete section of pipe, decking, bridge structure, building structure, or pavement, includes a plurality of spaced, longitudinally aligned tubular members. The ends of each structural unit are flush, and the ends of the tubular members are flush with the ends of the structural units. When two of such units are to be joined together, a guide member is inserted in one end of each of the first tubular members in the first structural unit, while an internally threaded insert member is inserted into a corresponding end of each tubular member in the second structural unit. The guide members and insert members have axial apertures with the aperture in the insert member being internally threaded. The two structural units are brought together so that each guide member on the first structural unit enters into the corresponding end of the tubular members containing the inserts in the second structural unit.
