    Abstract: A special kind of fastening device is disclosed. The fastening device of the present invention comprises several divided washer sections and a guide wire which are to be used in conjuction with a blind rivet or a bolt. This fastening device is used in order to place the washer on the back of a wall for fastening a bolt, etc., in the case where the said back of the wall is inaccessible in usual manner. Generally the divided washer sections are of the shape of a parallel-elliptical form or a parallelogram, and therefore, they can be passed easily through a small hole. After passing through the small hole, they can be assembled into a form of a nut, if the guide wire is pulled forward which is connecting through all the divided washer sections.

    Abstract: A system for mounting vehicle wheels is disclosed in which at least one lock nut secures the wheel upon lug bolts to prevent theft. The dimensions of the lock nut are selected such that a lock nut tool may also tighten and remove polygonal nuts that are used to secure the same wheel to the lug bolts. With this invention, a vehicle owner or a vehicle assembly line is not required to have two distinct type of tools, and the assembly line is not constrained to having the lock nut tightened at a particular lock nut tightening station.

The opposed shoulders project away from the threaded bore. Furthermore, the retaining means is comprised of a resilient member having a first portion and a second portion being positioned on opposite sides of the threaded bore and being seated on the opposed shoulders in a plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A part of the first portion and a part of the second portion are adapted to engage the panel when the apparatus is installed within the cylindrical bore. Additionally, the resilient member has a third portion disposed between the first and second portions and integrally connecting the first and second portions.

    Abstract: A controlled-torque fastener limits the torque which may be applied to it for the delivery (screwing-in) of the fastener into a threaded bore of a workpiece or the like. The fastener has a threaded shaft and a tool seat which is configured to be engaged by a driving tool such as a conventional wrench. The tool seat is movable between a driving position in which the tool seat is in driving engagement with the shaft and a non-driving position in which the tool seat effectively disengages the driving tool from driving engagement with the shaft. Resilient biasing means urge the tool seat into the driving position, and driving torque applied to the tool seat urges the tool seat against the biasing force towards the non-driving position. When the driving torque applied to the tool seat exceeds a pre-selected maximum torque, the biasing force is overcome, thereby disengaging the driving tool from effective driving engagement with the shaft, and discontinuing delivery of the fastener.

    Abstract: The devices are floating engageable means which may be a floating nut or a floating driver for use in hostile environment, such as space. The device includes a housing with a cross-shaped opening, each arm of the cross receiving a wing of a floating member. A spring between the base of the housing and the back of the floating member urges the wings against the top surface of the arms of the cross-shaped opening in the housing. The cross-shaped openings may have a rectangular configuration with a thread surface forming the top surface of the opening. This permits the floating member to maintain a lateral offset. Alternatively, the arms may have a triangular outline with the vertex forming the top surface of the arms. With this configuration, a force will be provided to center the floating member in the housing. The floating member terminates in a an outwardly facing taper guiding surface which tapers to the engaging means of the floating member. With this arrangement, off axis and off angle mating is possible.

Axial forces of normal amplitude are absorbed by the plastics nut (9a), while the exceptional overloads, resulting for example from an impact on the front of a vehicle whose seat structure is provided with the jack of the invention, are absorbed by the second nut (9b). In normal operation, the friction between the plastics nut (9a) and the screw (10) are considerably reduced, which provides a jack having an excellent efficiency.

    Abstract: A nut assembly comprises two end-to-end nuts threaded onto a screw and coupled by splines which prevent relative rotation between the nuts while permitting relative axial movement. A sleeve surrounds the nuts and is threaded onto one of the nuts. The other nut is formed with ratchet teeth adapted to fit into angularly spaced notches in the sleeve. When the sleeve is rotated relative to the nuts, it forces the nuts away from one another to take up backlash between the nuts and the screw. During such rotation, the teeth ratchet into and out of successive notches and ultimately prevent relative rotation between the sleeve and the nuts during normal service use.

The lug nut device includes two components, a lug nut composed of hardened metal and a tapered washer composed of aluminum. The tapered washer and lug nut are connected by press-fitting the base of the lug nut to the flat end of the tapered washer. The lug nut device is more securely fastened by the means of a socket or key whose interior cavity circumference is complimentary to the sides of the lug nut.

The torque limiting characteristic is imparted to these fasteners by a drive member which is of approximately the same dimensions as the stamped or pressed metal fastener and which has a plurality of prongs which are received in apertures or recesses in the stamped fastener. The apertures can open into the annular well about the central sleeve of the fastener or can be placed in an annular flat base which is formed on some of the stamped metal fasteners. The drive member is formed of a suitable plastic material having a precisely controlled shear strength.

Final tensioning and retensioning is provided by a plurality of set screws circumferentially placed about the thrust nut and extending parallel to the through-bolt. The set screws may be turned, cooperating against one of the compression plates to exert compressive force on the punchings.
