Abstract: A nut and lead screw assembly that includes a nut are disclosed. The nut includes at least one flexible finger for adjusting the engagement of a threaded portion of the nut with corresponding threads of a lead screw. The threaded portion is preferably formed of a different material than the flexible finger. The material of the threaded portion is preferably of a lower coefficient of friction than the flexible finger. The nut also includes an adjustment mechanism that adjust the radial position of the flexible finger and also the threaded portion. A preferred adjustment mechanism includes a spring finger that provides a radially extending biasing load to a free end of the flexible finger to adjust the position of the flexible finger. The adjustment mechanism more preferably includes a an adjustment member that adjusts the radial load provided by the spring finger.

Abstract: An inexpensive and reliable floating fastener is provided by manufacturing an integrated nutplate into the backside of the interior structural member. A retention clip engages the nutplate to capture the nut while allowing the nut to float. The integrated nutplate roughly aligns the floating nut to the axial through-hole in the structural member and provides the torque resistance required to drive the screw into the nut. The retention clip holds the nut in place and provides the axial resistance required for the lead chamfer of the screw to engage the nut and resist the axial loading on the screw during installation. The nutplate is designed to facilitate cost-effective manufacturing. The per hole cost of the integrated floating-fastener is approximately 30% of the cost of the industry standard riveted floating fastener.

  • Patent number: 7520538
Abstract: A purge gas introduction system for an orbital tube welding setup is provided, configured to inject high purity inert purge gas to the interior volume of a tube or tubular component. An o-ring is interposed between an annular base and an annular ring, their junction forming an annular o-ring groove, each part forming one sidewall, with the o-ring fully recessed within the groove, protecting the o-ring during the insertion and removal of a tube. The annular base and an annular ring are configured to receive a tube terminus. The sidewalls of the o-ring groove are divergent one to the other, wherein as the annular ring is drawn towards the annular base, the o-ring is forced partially out of the groove, forming a substantially leak tight seal between the tube and the o-ring. A purge gas from an external source is transmitted to the annular base through a purge connector, then, in turn, introduced to the interior volume of the tube.

The first portion has a top surface having a recess for receiving a rod, such that folding the second portion over the first portion forms a channel for retaining the rod. There are rod retaining tabs disposed above the channel for retaining the rod in the channel until the second portion can be snapped over the first portion. There is a lock for locking the first portion to the second portion after the second portion is folded over the first portion. There is a lever retaining device disposed on one of the two portions. The hinge is formed by apertures on sides of one of the portions and corresponding protrusions on the other. The protrusions extend into the apertures to allow pivoting of the first and second portions with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 6939073
Abstract: In the aerospace field spacecraft components are held together by separation systems until a specific time when they must be separated or deployed. Customarily a threaded joining bolt engages one of the components to be joined, and a threaded nut is placed on that bolt against the other component so they can be drawn together by a releasable locking assembly. The releasable locking assembly herein includes a plunger having one end coupled to one end of a plunger bolt. The other end is flanged to abut and compress a coil spring when the plunger is advanced toward the interface plane between the two components. When the plunger is so advanced toward the interface plane, the end of the plunger bolt can be connected to the joining bolt. Thus during retraction the joining bolt is drawn to one side of the interface plane by the force of the expanding spring.

Abstract: The nail heads of a nail row respectively have two symmetrical oblique insert members respectively formed under the front and the rear side, and each oblique insert member has a horizontal plane and an inclined plane connected to each other. Between the horizontal plane and the flat striking portion of the nail head forms a preset thickness strong enough to resist striking. The inclined plane has its outer side edge connected with one side edge of the nail head to form a sharp nailing portion able to be smoothly nailed in a workpiece. The horizontal plane and the inclined plane are combined with the workpiece by mutual engagement, able to combine work pieces together with great stability and firmness.

Abstract: An adjustable nut comprises a main body having an axial passageway and a locking insert. First and second wing members are pivotally mounted to the main body, whereby the wing members include respective cam surfaces that deflect the inner surface of the locking insert toward the threaded shaft. The assembly provides three different mounting arrangements. The first and second wing members are adapted to provide (1) a locking position where the main body is immovably locked to the threaded shaft, (2) an adjustment position where the first wing member is in the locking position and the second wing member is in an unlocking position to permit selective adjustment of the main body with respect to the threaded shaft, and (3) a sliding position where the first and second wing members are in an unlocking position to permit the main body to slide axially along the threaded member.

Abstract: A press-in fastening apparatus and method couples a screw with a nut by pushing the screw through an opening of the nut along a slip axis and rotating the nut to align a lock axis with the inserted screw. The opening of the nut along the slip axis has a diameter greater than the diameter of the screw and the opening of the nut along the lock axis has a diameter that engages screw threads with nut threads. In one embodiment, the nut is disposed in a housing coupled to an information handling system and biased to align with the lock axis so that a module is secured to the information handling system by aligning a screw coupled to the module with the nut and pushing the screw into the nut. The module is removed from the information handling system by unscrewing the screw with engagement of the screw threads and nut threads.

Abstract: A quick release fastener comprising a threaded shaft and a split nut arranged to release threads of the shaft when spread open by squeezing. The shaft may be, for example, a screw or a bolt. The nut is longitudinally split into upper and lower mirror image sections such that half of each turn of the threads is contained within a jaw of the upper section and the other half of each turn is contained within a jaw of the lower section. A handle projects from each jaw, enabling the nut to be opened fashion by squeezing the handles together. The fastener is utilized with an appliance bearing a passageway configured to receive the fastener. The passage way is configured such that slight unthreading of the nut allows the jaws to expand, thereby releasing the shaft from the nut. The appliance may be a commode having a toilet seat arranged to be retained by one or more of the novel fasteners.
