Including Movable Threaded Segments Patents (Class 411/433)
  • Patent number: 4618300
Abstract: A quick-clamping nut for permitting rapid engagement with an externally threaded member, such as a bolt, with a minimum of turning to lock a first member to a second member, the second member carrying the threaded bolt. The nut includes a tubular housing having a pair of elongated, similarly configured segments carried therewithin, the segments each including outer ends having an internal thread formed therein. The elongated segments also include outwardly facing tapered surfaces, and inner ends that are secured to the tubular housing and that carry biasing means to urge apart the outer ends of the segments.

  • Patent number: 4557652
Abstract: A nut which is lockable on a threaded element comprises two annular parts (1, 2) connected by preferably resilient members (5). Locking takes place by tightening a screw (6) arranged in a threaded bore in one nut part and abutting against the other nut part. During tightening of the screw, the parts (1, 2) are displaced and/or skewed in relation to each other whereby locking takes place on the thread.

  • Patent number: 4531872
Abstract: A quick action tensioning nut of the type used to fasten a vehicle wheel on the mounting shaft or axle of a wheel balancing machine. The quick action tensioning nut has at least one pre-tensioned, somewhat semi-circular and radially movable thread segment which is mounted rotatably in the body of the nut. The thread segment is rotatable around an axis of rotation that is parallel to the mounting shaft, and the axis of rotation for the thread segment penetrates the fixed end of the thread segment. The nut also has a thread segment locking mechanism that locks the thread segment in a tightened state on the shaft. In order to release the thread segment from the tightened state, the end of the thread segment opposite the fixed end has a recess into which a thrust member can penetrate to rotate the thread segment away from locking engagement with the mounting shaft. The thread segment is constantly urged to rotate radially inwardly toward the mounting shaft by means of a spring.

  • Patent number: 4485944
Abstract: A screw-actuated dispenser comprising a receptacle for accommodating a cartridge containing viscous material such a caulk, grease or the like. The receptacle has opposing endwalls between which the cartridge is confined. An elongate drive screw is threadably engaged with a threaded opening in the rear endwall and is extensible within and retractable from the opening and relative to the body by rotation. A slot extends partially along the length of the body and connects with the rear wall opening. A wedge is positioned in the slot, expanding the opening and urging the threads on the drive screw and those within the opening out of engagement with the screw such that the drive screw is freely slidable longitudinally relative to the receptacle. To engage the drive screw in the opening, the slot is compressed by a sleeve extended over an extension of the rear wall on opposite sides of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4462731
Abstract: A split nut assembly for mounting on a threaded stud or shaft without passing over the end of the stud or shaft. The assembly consists of a nut divided into two equal parts and a shell equally divided. The shell when assembled fits over the nut so that the assembly can be rotated and tightened together. In a separate embodiment, lock nut capability is provided by providing tapered surfaces on the shell and the nut to force the latter radially against the stud or shaft while the assembly is tightened in place. In another embodiment, a press fit arrangement is provided.

  • Patent number: 4410293
Abstract: An assembly for attaching a re-entry vehicle to its booster with a high preload force includes a split nut and a split band for encompassing the nut and retaining it in a collapsed condition in which it forces the booster against the re-entry vehicle at the desired preload level. The split band is held in an assembled condition about the nut by a plurality of separation bolts and a plurality of yieldable belleville washer and bolt assemblies. Actuating the separation bolts allows the band to move to a disassembled condition and the split nut to an expanded condition. However, the rate of their movements is controlled by the spring rate of the belleville washers whereby the preload is released in a gradual manner.

  • Patent number: 4361944
Abstract: An extractor for the flanged tubular ferrule which surrounds the head of the barrel lock of a kilowatt-hour meter comprises an actuating screw and a two-piece clamp. The clamp has a threaded hole and two recesses of different diameters, the larger of which is adapted to fit around the flange of the ferrule and the smaller of which is adapted to fit around the body of the ferrule. To remove the ferrule, the two pieces of the clamp are fitted over the ferrule and then fastened together by bolts. Then the actuating screw is screwed into the clamp until the inner end of the screw abuts against the head of the barrel lock which is inside the tubular ferrule. Continued rotation of the actuating screw in a tightening direction causes the clamp to move outwardly on the threads of the screw and in so doing the captive ferrule is pulled out of the cover housing. Following removal of the ferrule, the barrel lock itself may be removed by a barrel lock extractor, preferably of the type described in my U.S. Pat. No.

  • Patent number: 4332169
Abstract: A wheel balancer having a threaded shaft with a free end for receiving a wheel to be balanced and a drive for rotating the shaft to a wheel secured thereon so as to enable the obtaining of data relative to imbalance of the wheel as the wheel rotates. A locating device is provided for engaging a wheel on the shaft to locate the wheel properly thereon and a nut is utilized in connection with the shaft for holding the wheel against the locating device. The nut includes apparatus for selectively moving the nut threads radially inwardly into engagement with the shaft threads and radially outwardly out of engagement with the shaft threads so that the nut may be rapidly advanced on or removed from the shaft without rotation when the nut threads are out of engagement with the shaft threads.

  • Patent number: 4258944
Abstract: For a plumbing trap, such as under a sink or other similar installations, a split slip nut and seal assembly for joining two tubular members such as pipes or tubes one within the other; wherein a split seal is inserted between the tubes laterally and then a slip nut formed in two split sections is applied on a threaded male sleeve surrounding the tubular members and the seal to compress the seal and to secure the tubular members together. The split sections of the nut are fastened together by releasable fasteners engaged on opposed lugs projecting from the split nut. When access to the trap is desired, the split slip nut and seal assembly avoids the necessity of dismantling the entire installation as is required with conventional slip nuts.
